Title: Hi everyone! Newbie here wanting to download Pokemon
Post by: picklepie on May 01, 2011, 10:18:08 pm
Hi!
Let me just start off by saying I know NOTHING about calculators. I know this has probably been solved billions of times before, but I can't seem to find any answers for any of my questions.
So I recently downloaded the new Ti boy Beta for the Ti84 SE. My serial number ends in N. I got a Pokemon red Rom, and made an app from it.
So 1.) What is this Rabbitsign thing? And how do I use it?
2.) I can't download the app. It keeps on saying Memory Error. I know I'm supposed to have at least 85000 bytes of free ram. Every time I delete something, it only clears up my Archive memory.
I currently have 24150 free ram and 435135 free archive. What should I delete and how should I delete it?
3.) When I'm sending this to my calculator, I can only send it to the archive and not the RAM. Is this normal?

Thanks for the replies!

Welcome to Omnimaga!  Have some peanuts:

btw giving peanuts to new members is kind of a meme, in case you're womdering. :)
1)
2)
2.5)

3)
Ti-boy automatically signs the app when it compiles it.  Rabbitsign signs apps, so it's aptly named.
What type of calc do you have?  Is it a BE (black color) or SE (gray color, says SE)?  Pokemon will only fit on the SE.
Another thing.  How new is your calc?  On the back, there should be a serial number ending in something like A-1234B .  What's the letter at the end?  Pokemon also won't run on newer calc, because they lack the extra RAM that existed before TI started omitting them.
Yes.  Apps are stored in archive.

Thanks for the peanuts! I have a TI 84 Plus Silver edition.
I've tried it again and it still gives me that same error. I'm using the mini usb cable that came in the package. Any suggestions?

PS: The serial ends in N

PPS: So it is relatively new. I remember reading that previous editions of ti boy worked best with A-G, and Ok with H-M. For the new beta he released around a week ago, I remember seeing someone with an N report that it worked well with Kirby Dreamland 1. Of course, Kirby takes up a lot less memory than Pokemon, but, you know, I was just hoping for some miracle...

I edited the post above.  Is the calc new?

Also, when a mod comes along this topic should probably be in http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=10.0

Just so you know, there's the readme which answers a lot of the questions ;)

Hi, welcome on the forums.

Unfortunately if your calculator serial number ends with the letter H or higher, you won't be able to play Pokémon, because it is very demanding on RAM, unlike many other GameBoy games, which will run fine. Otherwise, make sure you have 1 megabytes of archive free before installing the application. A garbage collect might be necessary.

As for topic location I guess it is fine if it's either the help or TI-Boy SE section, although if you ever encounter a bug, you should submit a report in the latter board.

Howbout Link's awakening?

I'm not sure if it's going to fit in ~415000 archive, but yes that will fit on SE calcs.
If you delete some of TI's junk apps that they pre-load (and there are many), you should end with more than enough space.

If you got a Silver Edition calculator, Link Awakening should hopefully work. Make sure to get the Game Boy version, not the DX version for the GBC. Many people get confused between both.

I just got Link on! However, the opening scene is pretty shaky, and I can't do anything at the title screen. I tried pressing all the buttons, but all the title screen does is shake for 5 minutes and then start the opening scene again. Has anyone seen this before?

MODE is the Start button. Did you definitely try that?

This happened to me for micro machines.  It's still in beta, so there's some games that won't work correctly.
You read the readme right?  That explains a lot of stuff...

If I recall correctly Pokemon red has trouble sending over a normal USB cable on some calculators for some reason. The Silverlink and serial cable are supposed to work fine though.

Why didn't I have peanuts ?
Sorry for useless sentence. Now the useful talk.

If you don't have enough memory, remove all the apps that don't speak your language, such as Polski or Svenska or TablaP (Periodic in español).

Sometimes, when you try to send an app, this stupid thing says "ErrorCommunicationWhatever: NotEnoughMemory" even if you have all your ROM free. This is because of RAM. You have to free some RAM (by removing some progs, even archived progs, it will free RAM (I don't know why but it works)) , then you send the app and you finally re-put your progs (or not). That's how I got Axe into my calc.

*What ? already 20 posts ?  :w00t:

The reason that removing archived progs will free Ram is that some data about them is saved in Ram.
