Title: How would I go about to downgrade Ti Nspire 3.1
Post by: kevkid on February 27, 2012, 11:47:57 pm
I am an idiot and upgraded to this firmware but now I want to downgrade it to something like 2.1. Either way, I came across this http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3503&play= (http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3503&play=) and was wondering what else do I need? I have a usb to serial adapter and was wondering If I needed other hardware to change my boot2 so I can downgrade. I found this tutorial http://sodoityourself.com/max232-serial-level-converter/ (http://sodoityourself.com/max232-serial-level-converter/) as well Can anyone clarify what I need inorder to downgrade (I am not sure what kind of serial this usb to serial adapter is) here are some pics of the serial adapter:

If anyone can please help me I would greatly appreciate it

Ah, it's tricky to downgrade from OS 3.1 if you haven't used something like TNOC to first remove the TI block downgrading protection.
What you are talking about is an advanced method to downgrade the calculator. I'm afraid I don't know much about it except you have to acquire some parts. There are some people here who are experts on that tho. ;)

On another note, welcome to Omnimaga!
Also remember to introduce yourself in the respective forum board.

Heya and welcome here. :) I do not exactly remember how to downgrade, but first of all, what in particular would you need in OS 2.1 that isn't possible in 3.1? Because with the newest version of Ndless  (version 3.1 too), you can run ASM/C games like on OS 1.1 through 2.1 as you wish and create games for it.

Sadly enough it isn't the correct serial cable.
This cable is USB <--> Standard serial, the voltage is too high for the nspire to handle.
You need a TTL version of it. You can make it yourself, or buy one.
They are mostly marketed as FDTI adapters, and cost about $12.

I am sad :( but I may be able to build one... or just buy one. Well there are a few tools that aren't ported to the 3.1 os. After I acquire this tool will I need any other hardware?(as far as I can tell no) but thank you all for the warm welcomes :)

Well, kevkid good luck with your TI-nspire. Have you programmed any games or programs?

Nop, the only thing you might need are some little cables to hook it up to your nspire.
And what tools do you need? If you mention them, someone might port it/them to 3.1 :)

By the way which tools do you need that are still not ported to OS 3.1? I know there is OSLauncher but I don't remember which others there are, and there could be an updated version hidden somewhere on the forums or TI-Planet for certain tools.

@Jonius7 well I have never actually programmed for the nspire, but I have done some basic ti basic (no pun intended). But I am a CS student and I am familiar with Java and a little ASM, learning C# atm, but never really programmed for calculators. Mostly for OS launcher :D, but Also I may later upgrade and use an updated tnoc to not update the boot2.

Sounds good, kevkid. I have programmed some TI-nspire Basic Games myself, most notable of which is Jason's TI-nspire Hold 'em. You might like to look at if you want (link in signature). The other projects in TI-nspire Basic have been stalled as I am thinking about porting (or possibly cloning them, according to jimbauwens) them to Lua or Axe Parser for TI-84+.
