Title: My OS (2.43) is a heap of ruins!
Post by: p2 on July 24, 2011, 01:59:21 pm
I really don't know what to do:

Yesterday I opened the program list and scrolled down to "S".
After 8 minutes it wasn't ready. (I havehad veeeery many programs)

I took the batteryes out and tried to delete the OS (I have ramclears very often, my calc doesn't support greyscale, 2nd OFF isn't possible, ...)
The only thing it made was:
Ramclear!

Tried three times again.
Ramclear!
Ramclear!
Ramclear!

Then I wanted to delete the programs and groups (I have more groups than programs)
So I made an archieve clear, but only the programs, groups, ... (NOT the OS and the APPs)

Then, eerything was gone.
But I had hundreds of new programs:

BASu
BASu
BASu
BASu
BASu
...

I tried to open one:
ERROR

Editing one:
TI went off
RAMCLEAR
programs (UNARCHIEVED) still there

deleting one:
TI went off
RAMCLEAR
programs (UNARCHIEVED) still there

I tried to delete the OS again.
only the programs were gone  :D

TODAY:

Now, I loaded Axe 1.0.1 on my TI.
(hasn't ever worked before. but now it has!!) :D

I tried to edit an archieved program (axe-code)
TI went off!
Ramclear!
My archieved programs are still there. But the programs (BASu) are back!  :banghead:  :banghead:

WHAT SHOULD I DO??

Ok, it's hard to tell what's wrong with this, but Axe 1.0.X has some major glitches.  Avoid.

Try this.  Take out a battery.  Press and hold DEL.  While holding Del, put the battery back in.  It should say it's waiting for an OS.
At this point try re-sending the OS using TiLP or TI-connect.

See if that works...

EDIT: what did you run beforehand that you think might have caused this?  Axe 1.0.X?  Some OS-modding program that went haywire?

It sounds like something got pretty seriously corrupted. You've already erased all your programs, appvars, et cetera? Do you mind resending all your apps and OS, too? Remove a battery for several seconds, hold MODE, and reinsert the battery. This will erase pretty much everything: the OS, all applications, and everything that was and is still in the archive. This is the boot code's self test function, which tests almost every sector of the flash chip.

Just as a curiosity, is this the same thing as the MODE ALPHA S self test (just started differently, from boot rather than called by OS) or is it more thorough somehow?

Post by: DrDnar on July 24, 2011, 04:15:36 pm
It's completely different. Mode Alpha+S doesn't erase the entire archive and OS. It just resets RAM.

So "This will clear all memory" is kind of bluffing or something? :P

No. I said that the boot-mode self test will clear everything. The Mode Alpha+S, however, only resets RAM.

When you do mode alpha s from TIOS, it says "This will clear all memory" under "Enter self-test?"

Is this something fixable? I wonder if we should report it to Quigibo.

Yeah, it's a typo or something.  It only clears RAM.

It may not be a typo so much as a leftover from the days when the EOS didn't support flash memory.

Actually, I must say that the boot code self test is almost exactly like the Mode + Alpha + S self test. They both test the screen and the keys. However, DrDnar is right, the boot code self test does have that little "Testing Flash" stage...

I've pressed on again.
it was continuing counting.
pressed on again
RAMCLEAR.

I've tried the battery + MODE
Nothing.

It always tells me, the OS is deleted.
Then, I don't send another OS.
the TI turns off.
If I press ON, it says RAMCLEAR.

(I'm not able to delete the OS. It's always still there!)

What can I do, else?

Sorry, doublepost)

Yeah, mode + battery won't run if you still have an OS on the calculator. So...
1. Start an OS transfer
2. Pull out the cable half way though
3. Pull out a battery
4. Wait a few seconds
5. Put it in while holding MODE
6. Press ON until you are at the flash test
7. Let the flash test finish.
8. Press ON a few times to get through the rest of the tests
9. Send an OS

How long would the Flash Test take?

Roughly a minute.

Well, I'm a 68k user so I don't know much of this topic, but I'll try to help anyway.
Try this:
Remove ALL (also the little round one) for 5 minutes. Then put all batteries except one back in the calculator and do this:

Press and hold DEL.  While holding Del, put the battery back in.  It should say it's waiting for an OS.
At this point try re-sending the OS using TiLP or TI-connect.

Edit: Try first thepenguins advice, as he knows what he is talking about :)

So thepenguin77 always crashes his calcs?

Can I send the OS the next day, to?
(deleting today, sending new one tomorrow)

Yeah, you can send an new OS whenever you want, it's not like it's going to go bad or anything.

This will fix it, so do this.

If done correctly, this literally cannot fail.

Er...

If you say "IT CANNOT FAIL, then I know, you don't know my TI...  ;)

But I'll try it.

Must it be the correct OS, or may I send the OS of a TI 84+SE or of a NSpire with 84+ keypad?
(in step 1)

It probably has to be the correct OS, but what really matters is that the % recieved gets over 0%, and then you pull the cable out.

Post by: p2 on July 25, 2011, 11:56:21 am
Should I try it with the 84+SE
Else I'll have to wait untill tomorrow and then, maybe noone will have his TI in school (one of the last days in school...)

I was able to fix it jesterday.
thepenguin77 has helped me.

(thepenguin77 has already fixed many calculators, and he has told me, that the reacions of my TI are interresting... )

BUT:
The old bugs are away, but now I have new ones!!
thepenguin: May you help me again?

I wrote a program:
Code: [Select]
PROGRAM:A
:.B
:GetCalc("appvAxeData")
:"->GDB1
:Pt-On(1,1,GDB1
:DispGraph
:repeat getKey(15)
:End

It hasn't worked.

I tried it again:
Code: [Select]
PROGRAM:A
:.B
:GetCalc("appvAzeData")
:"->Pic10
:Pt-On(1,1,Pic10
:DispGraph
:repeat getKey(15)
:End

I haven't noticed that I've changed appvAxeData to AzeData!
I compiled it with Axe (1.0.1) as an App.
Id made it, but no APP was there!
I tried it again, it worked.

I started it and saw:
00000000
00000000
00110100
01001000
11111111
11111111
11111111
11111111
(as a pic)

I started Axe and quit (CLEAR)
When I started the APP) again, I saw the same Picture as in Axe: The Axe, the Menue, the (C) by Kevin Horowitz, ...
I found out:

when I went down to EXIT in Axe, I see the same pic with choosen EXIT in B.
It was like a screenie of Axe.
If I opened B twice after another, I first saw the screenie of Axe. The second Time I saw the 8x8-picture again.
HOW WAS THIS POSSIBLE?  :w00t:

AND:
Everytime I quit Axe or B or something Else, It was ERR:MEMORY
(This has started compiling the App)

Now, My TI has deletet the APP B by itself.  O.O
Buill have this ERR:MEMORY  :banghead:

You should <b>NOT</b> be using 1.01. It was buggy and was causing many problems. I'd suggest upgrading to 1.02, as it has been released, or downgrading to 0.5.3b(last stable release).

I had 0.43b before.

I'll upgrade to 1.0.2 today.

As for the app deleting itself, it's supposed to do that.  It's a vestige of when Ti charged money for apps, unsigned apps (such as those generated by axe) are automatically deleted after 16 runs.  Normal.

Also someone was saying on IRC that 1.0.2 caused the bad flash error as well, so idk what's going on with that. :/

p2, I edited your post on the previous page to hide the image in a spoiler. Next time you upload an image, please either keep it below about 800x600 or upload it to an image host such as RFG by {AP} (http://img.removedfromgame.com/). We don't need a 3072x2304 picture of an 96x64 calc screen :P

That's a typical part of test mode, btw.  Even wabbit emulates it :P
