Title: nLaunch and software reset
Post by: Jeggu on March 13, 2014, 07:18:21 am
Hi there,

I have a big math exam coming up (kind of like the SATs only the Finnish version). We have to give our calculators for a check up where the teachers will wipe out all the data on the calculator.

I currently have nLaunch CX installed so I can get the benefits from newer firmwares while still having ndless available.

My question is what will happen to nLaunch if they wipe out the memory?

I think the best way would be to use nLaunch to install the OS 3.6 and then remove all data from the calc myself. Then the calc should be empty but with nLaunch still instelled and I could just transfer the ndless and nlaunch folders back to the calc after the exams.

Could someone confirm this will work. I'm just scared to remove all the files because of ndless_resources

Well he said he would install it though nLaunch, so no problem here.

Something that could be done but I don't think there are any programs for it (there are programs that do similar things though, like RootDoc (https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=5436) but this one does quite the contrary of what you want, it goes a step upwards instead of downwards) would be to create an empty Documents folder inside the Documents folder, then you set a program at startup that sets the empty Documents folder as the default folder, if you see what I mean. This way, you just have an empty calc until you remove that program from your calc (with the help of a computer) and reboot.

I also thought you could trigger exam mode, but I don't know if teachers will do a stupid wipe, like "delete all" or a full reset via the maintenance menu, so maybe that would be ineffective.

Just make sure to not install OS 3.6 directly on your calc and not cheat.
