Title: Ordering a TI-86
Post by: SirCmpwn on June 12, 2011, 03:54:40 pm
Hello,
I would like to order a TI-86.  However, I'm underage, so I can't get a credit card or even place orders online for most things.  If someone would be willing to place an order on my behalf, I would send you cash in return for it.  I'm keeping my eye on this page (http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=ti+86&_sacat=See-All-Categories).

Still <18? Your birthday is coming up soon isn't it? Also, from what I've seen TI-86s go fairly cheaply these days, so not to worry if you don't get this one./me has been doing alot of calc buying/watching on Ebay recently. :)

Yeah, I'm 18 soon, but being 18 != having a credit card.

Well, you can get an ebay account at 18, but you don't need a credit card to purchase on ebay, not even a bank account actually.
*edit for info*

Prepaid money card u can use on ebay with paypal: https://www.moneypak.com/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=GreenDot-Brand-Search&utm_content=Green_Dot_S&utm_term=GreenDot_b_s

Their is a $250 limit per year unless you provide some personal info though.

Can't you just let your parents order it if you gave them the money?

I see you haven't met my parents.

Then how do you pay for things?

he edited and explained that.  Pre paid visas are the way to go, IMHO, here.  Writing KOS for the 86??? lol

You can't put your own OS on the 86 :/ I just like the calculator.
And pre-paid visas might work in the future, I just don't want to deal with them atm.

You can ask a friend to buy it for you, and if they can't do it, than maybe their parents can do it

If Raylin's willing to order it, I don't see a problem.

How are you going to send Raylin the money? Cash in an envelope? That sound pretty unsecure to me.

Maybe for $50 or greater, but <$20 isn't that bad.

Yea, generally not a good idea. But for a small amount it should be fine. The TI-86 is one sexy machine. Although the TI-83 was my first calc., the TI-86 was my first love.

Also, Why can't you write a custom OS for the TI-86? ???

It's got a true ROM - Read Only Memory.
What comes from the factory is what you get.

I thought Oses could still be sent to it though. Isn't that how ASM was accomplished on the TI-82 & TI-85, by sending hacked OS files?

Nope.  Sad to say so.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI-86 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TI-86)

Aww, that's a shame. :(
*edit* It appears I remembered incorrectly anyways. The TI-82 and TI-85 used hacked backup files, not hacked OS files. Somehow I got the file extensions mixed up in my head. X.X
