Title: Program TI-8x
Post by: Munchor on October 17, 2010, 05:41:50 pm
Hey,

As some of yo might already know I have a TI Nspire. I would like to program TI-8x since I can do way more stuff with it.

I don't have a TI-8x, what is the software and how do I find it to program TI-84 and 83?
I only want it if there is an emulator :S

Thanks much,

David!

Well as for an emulator I, along with probably most of Omni, would suggest WabbitEmu 2 which can be found in the download section. However, you need a ROM to use it. To get a ROM, legally, you need to have a calculator of your own but you might be able to find one somewhere on the internet, though we can't show you do to restrictions and legal stuff.

A ROM is like a Key?

how about this,  borrow a friends calc.  (or is that illegal?)

I don't really know how to explain what a ROM is. It's like a "image" of the software of the calculator that WabbitEmu uses to emulate your calculator. I have no idea how to really explain it though, someone else would probably be more helpful.

Not interested in that :S

I googled and found what a ROM is.

Is there any freeware?

For what?

Edit:
Even if he did barrow a calculator he'd still need a way of connecting it to the computer.

there is much more freeware, programming capabilities and utilites, games and other things for the ti8x calcs than there is for the TI-Nspire (literally about 1000 times as much things)

Like I said, the download for WabbitEmu 2 is in the download section. Though I'll find it real fast for you.

Edit:
Here (http://group.revsoft.org/wabbitemu.exe) it is.

The only illegal thing is obtaining a ROM. WabbitEmu is completely legal and can be downloaded many places. Like the link I gave is the direct link that is connected to RevSoft, which is also in the download section in the description for WabbitEmu.

Obtaining a ROM, like I said, can be illegal. Getting it from your own calculator is the only way for it to be legal (as for a friends calculator I'm not sure). The reason we can't give you a link to a page with a ROM on it is because that is illegal and can get Omnimaga in a lot of trouble with SMF and TI. If you must find one on the internet you must do that on your own without our help because, as I said, it is illegal. I hope you get it all figured out though.

Yeah, I will manage to get a ROM or a friend's calculator, then. WabbitEmu2 I can't find it in download sections, will look better though

Getting a ROM from online is basically stealing a calculator from TI.  And even though they deserve it, it isn't right, so I would say just buy one, and you'll see all the great programming things it can do, while staying legal.

EDIT: unless you hate TI that much.

Question: If you have a 84 calc, and you download a ROM illegally, is it still illegal? lol

I don't know. You'd have to make sure the universe didn't implode first :P

I think so, because that's still like stealing a calc from TI.  But it's much worse if you dump your ROM and put it up for download here or on ticalc.org (I heard somewhere they have a secretary check our site and a few others like cemetech and ticalc to see what we're up to -- I'm being serious too.)

EDIT: I heard it's a scan like once every 3 days or so

Lol the real question is whether or not they would be able to tell if the ROM on your computer came from your calc or not

Even if they do, not crime in Portugal.

Lol the real question is whether or not they would be able to tell if the ROM on your computer came from your calc or not

They probably wouldn't be able to tell that, but they could sue the site that hosts the file, and if they trace it to you they can pin you with a felony charge.

EDIT: only in a country like USA though -- they're really strict as hell about it here

EDIT2: though you never know what's up TI's sleeves...

To find WabbitEmu in the Download section you need to do the following:

1. Downloads
2. Old Calculator RPGs Headquarter Archive
3. TI Programming Tools
4. Wabbitemu 2

Ya, DJ just kinda grouped the previous Download section all in one and put it there. I don't know if he plans to rearrange or not. But the link I gave previously also works.

Edit:
As for the law thing. I don't know if ROM sharing in general is illegal or where it is and where it isn't. It's more a file sharing/etc. in general that is. It depends on the content and such. But ya. I'm also not an expert so I don't know.

I've got the ROM and the programming, but when i made the program open a file .8xp that is:

ClrHome
Disp("HelloWorld

The program crashed :S

When using the Disp command you don't need that parenthesis. Try:

Code: [Select]
ClrHome
Disp "HELLO_WORLD \\Where "_" is a space.

Probably, or something else is wrong with it in some way.

Not necessarily fake, could be though. Could just be a faulty one that something is wrong with.

for TI-8x calcs, its Disp "Hello World
and also, TI-BASIC Developer is a resource for learning how to code a 84/83.  ;)  theres a link on the front page, scroll down slowly and look on the right.  ;)

EDIT: nvm, missed a page.  :-[

Here's a good ROM for you.  It's a TI-83+ with OS 1.16, distributed by TI in the SDK, so I have no qualms about posting it.

You can also get a TI-73 ROM image in the SDK.

wait, isn't 1.16 a very unstable OS?

but of course since WabbitEmu supports OS upgrades...  :P

About the ROM-
I just installed what I think is the latest version of wabbitemu, and it had an option to emulate using open source software.
I think it pulled the ROM from TI's website.

Yeah, although that doesn't mean we can give it to you, sadly :(. Omnimaga is hosted in the United States.

Glad you got the ROM and Wabbitemu, though.
WabbitEmu can be gotten on ticalc.org or tibank.
It's not on ticalc.org yet, actually. Buckeye was supposed to release a copy there recently but finally he didn't
