Title: Question about USB Link and TI82
Post by: utz on March 09, 2013, 10:37:29 am
So I always assumed that TI's USB cables don't work with TI82, since that's what everybody says (including TI).
However, after reading this post (http://ourl.ca/18465/340700), I'm starting to wonder... if the SilverLink works for TI86, why shouldn't it work for TI82 as well? I mean, if it doesn't work with TI82, then the problem would be due to lack of software support rather than hardware issues, right?

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

I don't have any USB link cable. Just wanted to know if it works in case I get one (or people ask me).

I don't have the non-stats 82 around with me, but I'm almost sure I already used it for the purpose of communicating with TILP, though it's been a while.

As far as TI Connect goes, it looks like a no. There's no option for the TI-82 or the TI-85 in the drop down menu, and TI connect fails to find it (I have the old style TI-82). As far as graphlink software goes... I can't remember. If it supports the Silverlink (I think it did), it should undoubtedly support the TI-82. I have no idea where my graphlink software is at right now though. As for TILP, I don't have it installed, so I can't check.

If you are talking TI-Connect no, but with TiLP, I use my silver link cable with my ti-82, do 2nd Link select recieve, then on TiLP send the file, it usually works. Hope this helped!

Thanx y'all for your replies! Might look into getting a SilverLink then. Beats having to carry around my old P3 I guess ;)

One thing I wonder: Does TI-Connect still fail to send certain old calculator games? I think it was Joltima for the TI-82, 83+ and 86 that were affected due to being compiled with Bin2var (which screwed up the header), but it was a long time ago.

As far as I know yes. I can't get Megaman 86 to send to my TI-86. I'm sure there were others, but I remember that one specifically.
