Title: Spilt coffee on my cx cas, now it hangs on startup, what do?
Post by: nxtgenlva on November 18, 2013, 02:41:37 am
So basically I spilt a small amount of coffee on my calc. When I was drying it everything seemed to be fine but then all of the sudden it froze and restarted. the splash screen appeared and it appeared to load just fine, the grey screen came on as expected and then it switched to a white screen with the cursor in the middle. I can move the cursor for about a second before it just completely locks on that screen and I have to reset it to do anything whereby the same thing just happens again. Please tell me this is a coincidental software bug and I haven't frazzled my calc. I was running the ndless exploit and the nover overclock software too, running at most stable overclock.

If you have never had any problems with your calculator before it is likely that this has something to do with the coffee.

Yes, but i would like to rule out any software issues first and if it is the hardware, maybe narrow it down to a specific component which I can replace rather than buying an entirely new calc.

The only way to know would be to open it to see if coffee hasn't leaked inside on important parts of the circuit board or battery area.

I doubt you'll be able to replace most, if not all of the specialized parts. I would personally ear the whole thing apart and clean it thoroughly with alcohol. I'd also revert all software stuff like you suggested.

Try going to the maintenance menu (Reset+Doc+EE+Enter), deleting the OS, and installing a new OS.

Whenever I spill water on something electronic I open it up and blow-dry the parts, I bet that would still work with coffee. Good luck!

@ClrDraw
but coffee residue may stay behind
water has only salts but coffee is more than that

btw which port did coffee go into that might help in understanding your situation

I once spilled Seven Up on my Clickpad Nspire, which leaked on the screen sides. I am unsure if any got inside the calc, though, since the screen had no protector like on CX models. I didn't have any issues afterward, though (I might have cleaned it fast enough to prevent damage).

True, I didn't think of that.
