Title: Stuck on 3.2, trying to get to 3.1 (Nspire CX)
Post by: heimsothe on October 01, 2012, 07:51:08 pm
My TI Nspire CX says it's current version is at 3.2.0.1219. I want to get downgrade to 3.1 so I can install Ndless. I have wiped to whole calculator and downloaded the 3.1 file, well at least what is labeled as 3.1. When send it to the calculator to install the OS it installs but once it installs it says my version is still 3.2.0.1219. What do I do? Please help!

I think that TI replaced the OS 3.1 file with 3.2. From where did you download the OS?

Check for your Nspire model here and download the 3.1 OS.

I downloaded from the link adriweb posted. From TI Planet. And I downloaded the CX 3.1 version when I install it, it says i have 3.2. So if TI did replace the link, where else could find 3.1?

Hmm, for me it looks like 3.1, according to the examples folder still containing pre-3.2 files. (and the files are dated back to Aug 2011)...
Weird :o

What about going to the maintenance menu, deleteing the OS and transferring the 3.1 file you downloaded ?

does the fact that my student software is version 3.2 matter? Should I be using a different software to transfer the file?

Adriweb could it be that TI replaced the file at the end of that redirect with 3.2? It wouldn't be surprising if they did.

I don't see a problem sharing it, but I don't know if its allowed by the forum rules to post a link here in the thread.

Do you know how to use the emulator nspire_emu/kArmTI? If the answer is yes, then install the downloaded OS file on the emulator to ascertain which os-file it actually is. If answer is no, maybe that's a good reason to learn how to. Good luck.;)

At the time of this writing, the download links for the four flavors of OS 3.1 at TI-Planet point to OS 3.1.0.392 proper (on TI's servers), not to any newer version. The files don't seem to have been replaced, I've just downloaded them all to check.

Ok thanks for checking. That is strange that people remain stuck with 3.2 lately, though. Could this be a new protection TI added or did people just forget one step when getting rid of 3.2? I was sure complete format deleted the OS...

I seem to remember that there WAS anti-downgrade protection when upgrading from 3.1 to 3.2 (or any other older version), which is partly why I'm still on OS 3.1. But then again I'm not sure, and maybe using TNOC would remove the anti-downgrade protection (along with boot2 and example files if chosen) :)

Strictly speaking, TNOC does not remove the anti-downgrade protection; it prevents it from striking without easy return on Clickpad & Touchpad calculators whose boot2 is still 1.4.1571, and can therefore be targeted by DowngradeFix :)
("without easy return" = when a Clickpad / Touchpad calculator is running boot2 3.x, the only way to downgrade to the friendly boot2 1.4.1571 is the RS232 port, which requires extra equipment)

I thought OS 3.2 let you downgrade to at least 3.1 though?

That as well, indeed - and fortunately, as the 3.2.0.1212/1219 OS have enough problems (performance regressions, to begin with) to justify the downgrade, without even taking the killer feature of OS 3.1 (access to native code) :)
