So my problem is basically the same as https://www.omnimaga.org/general-calculator-help/ti-nspire-restart-loop/.
There is one big difference- I don't have the student software activated. So I have gotten rid of the calculator's operating system but can not reinstall it from online. I have a license number for the software but in trying to activate it, the student software won't recognize that the calculator is connected to my laptop. The calculator is on the loading screen with the text: "Operating System not found. Install OS now." The cord seems to be working as the calculator charged off of it and my computer downloads the driver.
Does anyone know what may be causing this, how I can make the software recognize the calculator, or how to get the os on the calculator without the student software? Thanks in advance.

Install the Computer Link software (http://ti-pla.net/a29560 (http://ti-pla.net/a29560)) and install the OS with that.

You should call up TI. They gave me a new code when I switched computers.

The problem here doesn't seem to be the key, though.

The key that comes with a calculator requires the calculator to be plugged in to register. TI might give you a different kind of key that would work without the calculator.

The computer link software is free, doesn't need a key. With that, you can install an OS.

Does setting up the computer link software need the calculator plugged in?
If it does not, that would make life easy. If it does, I will try to contact TI for the kind of key that can work without the calculator.

The computer link software doesn't need any kind of activation.
