Title: TI-73 Installing Mallard
Post by: TIfanx1999 on June 03, 2013, 03:18:13 pm
So I was wondering if anyone had experience with this? TI-connect complains about mallard being an invalid file. TILP doesn't want to send it as a backup as the readme says and doesn't seem to send it at all other wise. I have OS 1.60 installed on my ti-73 as required. This is the first time I've really tried TILP. Any advice?

Have you tried creating a backup file with Tilem and sending that directly to the calc?

From what I remember, you need TI-Graph Link software with a serial or parralel cable (like when sending the older version of Zelda). Else, you might want to grab a copy of Ti-Connect 1.6 on TI-Planet and try using that. I wouldn't be surprised if the new version of TI-Connect (4.0) broke compatibility with mallard.

I never tried Mallar myself, sadly, though. D:

@utz: I'm not sure that would do anything.
@DJ: Ok I'll try that. The new TI-connect is very bitchy with some stuff (as you said). :/ I don't think I even have a graph link anymore. That thing had its own
problems. :P

*edit* Apparently I already have ticonnect 1.6. I never upgraded. It doesn't like Mallard either.  <_<

Still worth a try, I think. The trouble is probably due to some odd checksum error, and there's a chance Tilem might fix that.

Just read in the docs that Mallard 0.3 doesn't run with OS 1.60. You'll need OS 1.91 or something.

I was trying version .2, but both versions give me the same issue when trying to send them. :/

Not sure if I read carefully (in Cemetech's shoutbox earlier), but I think there might be an updated version soon for people who use modern linking softwares and cables, but I heard it might only work with OS 1.60.

What you likely read was me saying I would be attempting to write a Mallard-compatible Flash application equivalent shell for the 73 tonight on HCWP, which would be much easier to use and more compatible with everything than Mallard itself.

For the TI-73? I didn't realize it supported apps. That would be nice though. :) *edit* yes, I know there's an app button on the calc, but all that is there is the linking stuff. Maybe TI just put it there because they had no where else to put it?

Of course...Calcsys for the 73 was one of (if not the) first community-created application for it, many years ago.

When Mallard was written, we didn't have the 73 app signing key, hence why it wasn't done that way in the first place.

Ah, ok. I'm not really familiar with the 73 since practically no one uses it. I've only really ever played around with the BASIC a bit (which unsurprisingly looks very much like the TI-83+s BASIC).

Ah I see now! A Flash APP would be much better. Of course Mallard was quite great by itself in the way that the TI-73 was not meant to run ASM programs other than Flash APPs so it had to be done the same way as older non-Flash models, but a Flash shell would probably be more practical I guess.

That said, it's not like many people use this calc, but since it's kinda similar to the 83+ it would be cool if it was not left out. :P

And yeah I think TI-73 BASIC is even more complete than TI-76.Fr BASIC, because the TI-83 port of Illusiat 81 wouldn't even run on the latter. It also has the faster ancestor of MathPrint.

Did that thing go online? I'd be highly interested 8)

I wonder if they might have forgotten to add 73k support due to 73 apps being very small in numbers or if the format has changed ever since?
