Hi. I have a TI Nspire (not CAS) with OS 1.7. If I download the new 2.0 Operating System, will I be able to downgrade the OS to 1.1 or 1.7 if I want to? Thanks!

From what I read on UTI, yes if your Nspire doesn't come loaded with OS 2.0 that is your case.
But better double check the post on UTI or wait for someone that is following more the Nspire scene than me.

Normally, you should be able to downgrade fine. I downgraded straight from 2.0 to 1.1 on my Nspire from 2009 fine. I think the only Nspires that cannot be downgraded are the new ones TI is releasing that comes pre-loaded with 2.0.

But where can i download the 1.1 version? (cas) Or can anyone send me the .tnc file?

I think my copy of OS 1.1 may have been bad. I downloaded a different copy from the Internet today and I had no trouble sending it. Also, I think that the OS is stored in the memory because my memory avaiable went up to 80% after downgrading. Thank you to those who helped me downgrade! :)

No problem, and when upgrading/downgrading, you actually need enough memory for both the currently installed OS and the one to be installed, since it is downloaded on the calc first.

The way the OS is stored may cause problems for future upgrades. If the current 2.0 takes up over 35% of the memory, and the size of each OS is growing, there might be a point when there is not enought memory to upgrade without completly removing the OS first.

Yeah this is a worry I got. It will suck to have to delete everything else from your calc just to upgrade to a new OS :/
This is why eventually it would be nice if third party OSes could be made. Maybe a tiny OS that takes like 64 KB of memory and have rudimentary stuff. Linux, maybe?

I would also like it if we could choose which applications to send. I never use the geometry application, and judging from the size of the Cabri Geometry App on the TI 89, it takes up a large amount of memory. The only applications I use are the calculator, graph, and spreadsheets. Most of them are memory wasters that look good to schools and parents.

That's a good way to put it. However, I don't understand some of them, like ProbSim for the 84 series. You could use randInt( or a 30000+ byte App... :D

Sorry, no one can email the os 1.1 or this site would be in trouble.
