I'm taking the SAT tomorrow and I'm seriously freaking out.
I bought this Nspire [non-CAS] a couple weeks ago. It's been doing pretty well until just recently, where my display would just get all screwy when I'd use a function [I was only using the find roots function for polynomials] and after a couple of resets [where I would remove and reinsert the keypad], it would just tell me that it couldn't find an OS and I needed to reinstall it.
So, I install the Computer Link software, pop a MiniUSB cable from it's plastic [first time used] and have it download and install OS 3.1.0.392, and after waiting five minutes, it tells me it's not responding. I google some keywords and it tells me that I need to reset it via doc-enter-ee key combo. I complete reformat, and actually get some [very little progress] when I try to reinstall the OS, but soon enough it'll tell me I need to reinstall. I'm taking this SAT in a couple hours and I feel like I'm about to pass out. What the heck is wrong with this thing?

What does the nspire screen says?
-
Operating System not found. Install OS now.
-
Which model? TI-Nspire TouchPad? TI-Nspire CX?
You tried to install a non-CAS OS of course, didn't you?
-
Wait, if you install a CAS OS on to a Non CAS OS, it doesn;t work?
darn...
I had a OS problem, so I downloaded the CAS one on my TI-Nspire Touchpad(?) but it still didn't work, so I sold it in the flea market for 70 dollars :(
Lesson learned
Ask Omni before doing anything :P

The Computer Link software just asked me to update and install so I did. Which software version should I use, and can I have a link?
-
And I'm installing a file called TI-Nspire-3.1.0.392.tno

Ermm..
Double posts are not allowed btw

I'm sorry
I've never really had anything other than my TI84, and nobody's really given advice other than check what file I was installing. .tno IS for non-CAS, am I right? [I thought CAS was .tnc] I just need help, man. I'm clearly an idiot when it comes to these calculators, now can we like, move on? I seriously don't know what to do with this

I don't know if its too late, but yes tno is the right format. You can try to download the os again from their website (education.ti.com/calculators/downloads/US/Software/Detail?id=6766) in case your download is corrupted. If you still can't install it, try upgrading the computer software.
Good luck!
(BTW, most nspire users here live in Europe (no offense) and they were just going to bed when you asked the question. That is why you didn't get any response anymore)
