Title: TI-OS 2.53 (patched)
Post by: MRide on July 19, 2010, 10:33:52 pm
How does one install Brandon Wilson's fixed version of OS 2.53?  I've tried to send it to my calc with TI Connect, but it just sat there at the "Sending to TI 84 Silver Edition."

i've never tried to install that specific one, but IIRC, the normal OS for an 84 is purty darn big. are you sure you waited long enough?
(no offense to your ability to be patient, just being thorough :) )

Did it said receiving calculator software 0% on the calc? Because on the calc it only increments every 7% (sometimes 14), which is kinda misleading from TI's part (it makes us think it froze)

Yep.  I've let it sit there overnight, until the calc went into APD.

But, does the FREE83P certificate have to be installed? (Not sure if this counts as a third party OS)

EDIT:  No, the loading bar did not show up on TI Connect, either.

(this probably won't change anything, but.....) try removing a battery, then holding DEL or STAT while you put it back in. this puts the calc's boot code into 'waiting-for-os' mode. then hook it up and send it.

You do not need to install Free83P, ever. Despite what you may have heard, it's a normal OS just like any other.

Use TI Connect's dedicated OS installer, an application called TI OSDownloader. It's easier to install if you already have an OS installed and you're at the homescreen, and initiate the transfer from the PC.

Is this serial I/O or direct USB?

Thanks, Brandon. That worked.  It was USB, by the way.
