i've got a serious problem
yesterday i've decided to clean my calculator because it was dirty as all hell
i decided to take a damp towel and rub around the keys.
but i guess it was a little too damp, because now all the keys exept for the on key don't work anymore
please tell me i can fix this, because i can't afford a new graphing calculator atm :/

If you open it up, take off the rubber membrane and leave it to dry it should work again. You can get a small hex bit from any hardware store.

Would the trick with the rice+ziploc bag work?
-
ziploc bag?
-
Those sealable plastic bags.

Rice is a dessicant, so it tends to absorb moisture from its surroundings. Putting the calculator and rice in an airtight bag only allows the rice to absorb moisture from the calculator once any moisture in the limited amount of air in the bag is absorbed. If you've ever seen rice inside of a salt shaker in a restaurant, it's there to keep the salt dry.
Whether or not this tactic would actually work in this case, I'm not sure. But I've had an iPod touch be in a washing machine for about 5 minutes which seemed as if it had killed it, so I dried it off the outside and put it in a bag with rice. I took it out about a day later to discover that everything except the wifi worked, which was a better outcome than I had feared.

well, thanks :D
trying this is better than nothing, i'll let you guys know if my calc survived!

my calc works again :D
thank you guys for your help!

Did you put it in a bag of rice or did it just dry to the air?
-
Protip: next time you clean your calc, only make one corner of the towel wet. Next, rub the rest of the towel over that. That makes the whole towel only slightly humid.
That's what I always do at least :p

I use isopropyl alcohol to clean my calculator. It instantly vaporizes, so it does not get time to get inside the calculator.

Plus it doesn't mess with electricity. :P
-
Doesn't it remove the numbers on the keys though?
-
Maybe it does I dunno, never cleaned my calc with more than a dry microfiber cloth. :P
-
It only happens with cheap toys where prints on the plastic are some kind of fake-tattoo material :P Acetone on the other hand... will destroy all plastic and prints.
-
Yeah acetone is bad. It noms through glue pretty well though. :P
-
I used acetone for cleaning glue from a plastic surface once. Not ideal >.>
