Tutorial: create moving screenshots of a TI-nspire
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:19:33 pm »
Tutorial: Create Moving Screenshots of a TI-nspire
1.   Open nspire_emu
2.   Open CalcCapture
3.   Click the configuration button in the top right hand corner
4.   Click New
5.   Name it nspire_emu or something that resembles TI-nspire for you.
6.   Click the little button to the right of the Window title box
7.   A dialogue box will pop up.
8.   Find nspire_emu and select it.
9.   Now make sure you can see both the CalcCapture window and the nspire_emu window on your screen.
10.   Click the capture button on the left and set the pixel options so that it captures the emulator screen
11.   Recommended settings that worked for me are: Screen Width: 320, Screen Height 240, Screen Top 43, Screen Left, 83. Settings may vary from computer to computer.
12.   Make sure that you save your config settings at the top right by clicking Ok when it indicates config has changed.
a.   If it does not appear you may have not selected the emulator correctly from the drop down menu. Retract to step 4 and try again.
13.   Close the window and go back to the first window
14.   Click on the configuration tab
15.   Press the new button to create a new configuration for capturing images
16.   Now there are two types of configuration I recommend making:
a.   Name the first configuration nspire_gray or something similar, set the palette to Grayscale (256 shades) and set Contrast, Lightness, Darkness, Noise to 0
b.   Name the second configuration nspire_color or something similar, set the palette to Optimised (256 colors) and set Contrast, Lightness, Darkness, Noise to 0
c.   Don’t forget to save the config when it indicates config has changed.
d.   Advantages and disadvanges of the configurations are outlined next step.
17.   In file properties change the capture type to animation. It is recommended that the capture interval and GIF interval are set to as low as possible, however I have created decent screenshots with higher intervals for both.
a.   Grayscale config slows down the overall fps when capturing, and can be useful if it doesn’t really matter if there are slight lapses in fps from time to time and to slow things down in general. However I have discovered the file size is significantly larger than when using 256 colors
b.   Color config provides a nice flowing image, fps is much quicker (for some reason) and the file size is significantly smaller than when using Grayscale. However, the frame rate is slightly faster than in real time.
18.   Choose the filename directory for your screenshot
19.   You can start capturing by clicking the capture button or you can set a hotkey to start capturing when it is pressed. Choices are printscreen and numlock.
20.   Record on the emulator
21.   Click stop capturing.
22.   You now have a nice moving screenshot.

Indeed. It doesn't create smooth screenshots, though :(

The only way to have high framerate is to slow down the Nspire emu a lot, capture at the default speed then use a video program (VirtualDub, for example) that supports GIF and edit the screenshot in there. But then you get an AVI file. Alternatively you can set the final screenshot to be faster than the speed at which it was captured, so it can make it smooth without using a video. Keep in mind Nspire screenshots are really massive, though. About 30 seconds of capture is 5 MB, I think.

yeah i have that but how to link it with calccapture
wiat i  think ive got it

ive got it with xspire's 026 gtk emulator!!! it's a bit complicated though.

here's a tutorial for anyone who needs it
if you have the emanulator set up
1. open calccapture
2. go to configuration at the top right hand corner
3. click new
4. name it nspire_emu or something
5. make sure the emulator is already running and click window title
6. find nspire_emu and select it
7, on the left click capture and set the pixel options so that it has the screen
8. close the window and go back to the first window
9. click on the configuration tab
10. choose animation on capture type
11. choose filename
12. click on capture
13. do your stuff on the emaulator
14. click stop catpuring
15. done!
16. its not that good quality.

Hmm seems pretty fine to me. However, the Gtk emu seems to screw up the display a bit

i know it's good, however i do know that xpire's emu does make the display unclear, ive looked on unitedti.org and there havent been any updates.
i don't really know how to use the goplat commandline version

Yeah same, I had to ask Bwang or someone else for a version that he setup so we just double-click a batch file to run it. I'm no good with command line.

ok i just updated my emulator. i think i was actually making a mistake when i was referring to xspires and goplats, i updated my 026 gtk to 026r1, i copied my whole folder then i got the goplat 031 and copied that stuff into the folders that i already had. i ran the specially made batch file i had (im not sure its xspires but i think it is) and did options and it came up with goplat's 031!!! so now i have 2 copies, when i want the graphical version i posted in my screenshot above i go back to my original folder, when i want to run os2.1 then i go to the goplat version. i wish however that xspire would post more updates for a clearer screen and update his gtk version to 031.

I shall be posting my 'HYBRID' 031 version soon onto here.

NOTE: now it is here! i had to remove the raw, img, and os files otherwise the file would be humoungous to download (was 189MB now just under 4MB

also i shall be adding this to my list of tutorials i have to complete at my website: http://www.jhgenius01.webs.com
