What is the difference between these two models?
TI NSpire CX CAS
Item model number: N3CAS/CLM/2L1 (Texas Instruments Nspire CX CAS)
Item model number: N3/CLM/1L1/B (TI-Nspire CX Handheld)

The TI-Nspire CX CAS has additional CAS capabilities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_algebra_system), such as symbolic integration. Some standardized tests aren't designed for use with such calculators so they may disallow CAS models.
There are also minor cosmetic differences (one has a white border, one has a black border) which help teachers/test proctors distinguish between the models. Otherwise, the calculators are the same.

This means that the difference between the CX CAS and the CX is that the former has a CAS (as their names suggest it).

So yeah, in short, one have a CAS and the other does not. Otherwise, it's the same thing.

Of course, the one with the CAS is better, but it's more expensive. It depends if you're gonna use the CAS, if you're willing to pay a small extra for it (something like 20$ IIRC) and if you're gonna pass standarized tests with the calculator (some tests forbids usage of a CAS). You might want to consult your math teacher.

Some non-cas models can be modified to have cas. If you want to attempt to do that you're on the right forum.

We do not condone modding non-CAS models into CAS calculators (which can be a form of cheating).

Is there an app for Ndless for civil engineering? There is one IIRC.
Anyway, I don't know what type of maths engineering uses, so I guess you're safe picking the CAS one.

Engineering is mostly physics so a CAS is nice for equations and stuff.

I have a CX which I modified into a CX CAS with nLaunchy, but with the new Boot2, you won't be able to do that. So it might be better to get the CX CAS, because you won't know which boot2 the calc will have.
