I just got an nspire, and was an idiot and upgraded the OS right away to 2.0.
Then I found out about ndless, and the gbc emulator, which both look awesome. So I'm trying to downgrade, but for the life of me can't find any working links to the 1.1 OS.
Can anyone help?
-
Hi and welcome here.
Unfortunately, TI-BANK received a cease and desist letter two days ago for providing links to OS 1.1 on their website, and several years ago, some english TI websites received takedown notices for redistributing TI-8x OSes. Ndless downloaded OS 1.1 from TI-BANK. Now this auto-download feature no longer works, which means you need to search Google for a copy of tinspire_1.1.tno or tinspire_1.1.9253.tno (I don't know how the CAS OS is named). Unfortunately, because of the takedown notice the french TI file download site received, we decided to not take any chance and not redistribute any copy of the OSes ourselves. For now we are forced to redirect users to Google or if they know illegal file download places (such as Torrent sites) that we can't share either (including via PM), they can check those places too, since OS 1.1 is most likely alerady spreading there now.
-
I've searched google thoroughly, and although some sites mention it in the google cache, it is missing from everywhere. >.<
I'm assuming there is no factory reset for this calculator to get back the old OS? I don't have anything on it anyways.
-
Unfortunately nope. I personally had to search an hour for the OS. Keep in mind that since TI-BANK just received the cease and desist letter two days ago, that it may still take a while until Google updates its cache enough to make links to OS 1.1 show up.
Blame TI for being stupid x.x, I mean it's not like we're modifying the OS and selling it. They won't even lose money by allowing people to provide OS 1.1. In fact, it's easier for them to make money, since Ndless may slightly increase their sales, when people see those new ASM games pouring on ticalc.org.
The good news, though, is that Ndless 2 apparently runs on OS 1.7 and 2.0. I am not sure if it does on 2.0.1, but apparently the security exploit is still there, meaning maybe it will be easy to adapt for all 3 OSes. Now we just need to wait until it's out. The authors won't release too many info so TI know as less as possible, so we just have to be patient.
I would like to provide links to the OS, even if just via PM, but we do not know if TI didn't ask the webhosting provider to keep an eye on my site webspace in case I provide any links, especially that we're by far the most active TI calc forum on the web. Sorry.
-
You could always PM steev for his email address, then email him the links.
As for sales increasing, ticalc.org should really change their Nspire page to reflect the new developments. Otherwise, people will still think the Nspire "lacks programming ability".
-
Yeah that could work, too. We still try to make sure no TI employees in disguise pass themselves as a new member wanting a copy of the OS then report us to 1and1 when we share him a link. But again, if we delete any proof nothing can really be done I guess by them.
And yeah I think that's something I'll report to Tev/TravisE on IRC.

Yep, updating those calc pages is on the to-do list. Right now we've been preparing to move ticalc.org to a new server, though, so we're kind of holding back on modifying the static content until then so the transition will be simpler. Thanks for bringing it up!
-
Mhmm I hope the move goes well. I remember last time it happened (2003) archives went down for a while then file reviews took half a year to come back x.x
This is also at that time Mail lists became invisible to public
-
Netham45 sent me a PM asking for my email, but apparently I can't send PM's yet. >.<
It would be awesome if someone could email me a link though. I'm no TI employee, lol.
If anyone is nice enough, my email is my username with a zero at the end @live.com. (not posting to thwart bots)
-
/me pokes Netham45
-
I hope no one thinks I'm from TI......
EDIT: Then again, if I was from TI, I would totally sell out and give you the RSA encryption, because I'm a homebrew fan.
-
lol well anyway if a member decides to send people copies of the OS files and that there are no links to them in anyone's PM or posts, technically I can't do anything since this is external to this site. I personally just won't provide any link to them myself, nor help anyone finding a copy, since I am this site admin.
-
Except I only just got my nspire and it has at least 1.3 on it, since the battery has been lasting forever.
-
Unfortunately nope. I personally had to search an hour for the OS.
I found it pretty quickly....
hint: netham is cool (DJ, remove the hint if it is too obvious)
-
Lol, I know what you are talking about. I won't go into details, though :P
But via Google, currently there is nothing, BUT, if you check often, eventually you may be lucky and fall on what you need!
-
/me pokes Netham45
*ZTrumpet thanks Netham45 over and over!
(Sorry, guys, but since there's no evidence of a convo between Netham and I anywhere, I can't let you know why I'm thanking him.)
I really wish I could help, but I don't have any links written down. =\
Good luck! :)
-
Hi guys, is there anyone willing to give me a copy?

A copy of what? OS 1.1?

read the title

Ndless supports OSes that are newer than 1.1, now. There's no need for 1.1. If you still want 1.1, all I can say is that you won't find it here.
-
but my current os is 2.1 is that supported?
-
Unfortunately, we can't link such a site because anytime we do, TI sues them to remove the download. You'll just have to find it yourself if you want OS v1.1
-
The beta versions of Ndless support 2.1. If you want to use an official version, you can use 1.7 instead.
-
if you can compile ndless yourself, then yes but binaris exists only up to OS 1.7 as far as I now.
EDIT: I keep posting fraction of seconds after somone else...
-
Ti is retarded, even apple doesnt make iphone firmwares illegal, also if sharing firmwares is illegal then I guess even hacking the ti-nspire with ndless illegal as well?

Hacking the Nspire isn't illegal - we're writing our own code. However, the OS updates contain copyrighted TI code, so TI has the right to sue if someone publishes them.
-
Well, they do have a financial interest in keeping Ndless down. It hurts the Nspire's test ratings to allow people to install third party software on the device. Iphone sales don't exactly go down if you can't use them in tests.

Yeah. They're trying to prevent it as much as they can. Because they don't have the right to stop Ndless itself, they took down OS 1.1 from the internet instead, and tried to add more security to the newer OSes (but they haven't suceeded yet).
-
If only I got hold of a copy, I am gonna make it avaliable to everyone. Techincally, I think everybody who owns a Ti-nspire has the right to get hold of a copy, since I was given the software originally when I brought my cal.
iPhones sales don't go down, but when people jailbreak, Apple and developers don't get paid for cracked apps that people are supposed to pay for.
-
My last question is can I still hack the ti-nspire in ti-84 plus mode?
-

You can't hack the Nspire itself when it's in 84+ mode, but you can hack the emulated 84+. However, some hacks (such as writing to the 84+ OS) are impossible on the emulated 84+.
-

Which is why the Iphone is development locked.
Aaronpon (assuming you're in the US), it's illegal to distribute copies of the OS. You were given the right to use the software when you bought the calc, but not the right to re-distribute it. TI has the full legal authority to force you to stop such activities.
-
good thing I ain't in the us, its a miracle thepiratebay and isohunt hasn't been sued, as they should have been for providing torrent links.
iphone is development locked but developers can still make there apps avaliable throught the apps store, and jailbreaking is a way of allowing unauthorized developers to distribute their apps and also to download pirated apps from app store.
-
good thing I ain't in the us...
Well, then the whole matter just becomes very complicated. Rest assured that you still can't legally distribute the software.
-
Hi and welcome on the forums. I have moved your topic to the help section.
OS 1.1 is now useless for Ndless, though, because 1.7 can run it. Even OS 2.0.1 and 2.1 can, although Ndless for these two OSes is still in developement stages, so it's not very stable. OS 1.7, 2.0.1 and 2.1 are still available on TI website, but are not listed there. Direct links can be found there: http://ourl.ca/7373
Unfortunately OS 1.1 is not there, but we cannot provide a copy of or link to it, because one of the following might happen:
1) TI will get a lawyer to send us a cease & desist letter or a DMCA notice to get us to stop distributing such files
2) They'll send that C&D letter to my hosting provider instead. Since my hosting provider is strict on copyrights, they'll be scared and shut my website down completely.
#1 happened to TI-BANK website, which hosted OS 1.1 until April. TI asked them to remove OS 1.1, but for some reasons, they didn't for OS 1.7 and 2.0. When they did that Ndless only ran on OS 1.1, an indication of a possible attack against Ndless by TI.
EDIT: Currently, you can run 84+ ASM programs in 84+ mode, but Ndless cannot be run from 84+ mode and some 84+ ASM programs may not run. Calc84maniac was working on a third-party TI-84 emulator, although it requires a TI-84 Plus ROM, which you also need to find yourself.
Also Thepiratebay got sued at least twice, I think. They survived it, it seems, though. I would be happy to distribute calc OSes here, but in two months, when typing omnimaga.org in your URL bar, you may end up getting an "Aspiration Hosting Account suspended for TOS violations" message instead of this blue site, so I would rather disappoint 10 users by not distributing copies of an OS that nobody need anymore, instead of disappointing over 1000-3000 people by ending up getting Omnimaga deleted completely with all the information available on it.
So to avoid getting in trouble, we disallow the distribution of TI-Nspire OSes unless the download link is on TI server. If you start distributing copies, please do not do so via the forums, the chat room or the forum private messenging system. Use e-mail, private chat or another mean of communication.
But again, you do not need to use OS 1.1 to run Ndless. 1.3, 1.4 or 1.7 will work just fine and OS 2.0.1 and 2.1 may work as well. OS 1.1 has no math programming capabilities anyway, and on some calc models, the screen won't turn ON.
-
Hi, I just got hold of a 1.7 os. Do you know where are the instructions for downgrading? thanks.
-
You can go to OS 1.7 regardless of what OS you have, even with 2.1, without a special process. Just send it as you would with any other OS upgrade/downgrade! :)
-
Thanks!!!
-
Do we need a specific versions of Computer Link Software, by the way? I recall OS 1.1 requiring Software 1.3 or something. Current version is 1.4.

Not that I know of. The only issue with the computer link software was that Ndless 1.0 needed Computer Link 1.3. As far as I know, I don't think the Computer Link has an effect on which Operating Systems you can send.
-
Ok thanks for the info.
-
1.7 os works perfectly with computer link 1.4, but Ndless doesnt work. I tried draggin the files and opening it, it doesnt work. Do you know where I can download Ndless for os 1.7?
-
You most likely did not download the right Ndless version, or you might have either installed the files incorrectly or the wrong ones.

Otherwise, if it still doesn't work with the included instructions, please post what error message do you get.

Make sure the two files, ndless_installer.tns and ndless_resources.tns are in the same folder on the calculator. In addition, Ndless 1.7 will not install if the calc is plugged into the computer. You have to remove the USB wire first. Hope this helps! :)
-
Wow Thanks! I must have forgot to remove the usb from the computer. :evillaugh:
So now that I have Ndless installed, what can I do besides using gameboy emulator?? Can cool stuff?

Well, if you like to program in C (or ARM assembly, but that's less likely), you can set up the Ndless development environment (http://hackspire.unsads.com/wiki/index.php/C_and_assembly_development_introduction) and start coding! :D Unfortunately, Ndless does not support real console input/output using the keypad and screen, but that is going to be added in a later version.

Are you sure Ndless was installed? You have to install it after every reboot.
-
Yes, when I open gb4nspire, my ti-nspire reboots everytime, I think it is because of the stability of the Ndless. I wish I could learn C plus right now so I can help fix the bugs.
-
Where did you get gbc4nspire from? If you are using the old 1.1 version, it will not work. Try downloading a fresh copy from ticalc.org.
-
I am using version 0.8, heres the link http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/426/42630.html

I updated it last month (without changing the version number), adding a version compatible with Ndless 1.7. Are you sure you got this exact version?
-
when unzipping, maybe he disabled folders and the 1.1 one overwrote the new version. Btw does the 1.7 build included works on both CAS and non CAS? I only notice one file, unlike the two 1.1 ones.
-
All Ndless 1.7 programs will work on both the non CAS and CAS, for the same basic reasons why Ndless 1.7 programs will work on Ndless 1.3, 1.4, and 2.0 (without the touchpad)! :)

Yeah, it should work on all OS's that have Ndless versions with the new system call method
-
ah ok. I remember all 1.1 programs having one version for the CAS and another for the basic Nspire. X.x
