Ok, since my TI-83+SE broke last March I was thinking about buying a new calc at one point, but I'm unsure which one I should choose. I know for sure it won't be the TI-84+SE, because it's too expensive and I don't need 1.5 MB of memory since I usually only keep about 3 apps and only one game at a time on the calc. However, where I live the TI-Nspire is only about $12 more expensive than the TI-84+ so I was thinking of either picking a Nspire or a TI-84+
However I am wondering, is the Nspire completly compatible with the TI-84+? I mean, will I be able to send TI-83/4+ programs on it or send any from it? Will I be able to make BASIC games on it? Will it run my flash apps like xLIB, MirageOs and CelticIII? If it's the case I might get this instead of the TI-84+, since I would have two calcs in one for only $12 more, and on top of that if they ever add more support for programming it would expand my TI-BASIC programming horizon more. Any suggestions?

I know the TI-84+ is very nice (since I've owned one myself, currently my sister's using it for school but I'll probably get it back in a year). I have no clue about the N-Spire though...

Well, from what i heard, Nspires are not that great. Until someone really talented at calculators figures out how to "hack" the Nspire, I woulnd't buy one. I know it has backwards compatibility with the ti 84 but i'm not so sure it can run flash apps. Oh, and how did your ti 83SE break? Any possible way you could fix it?

Where I live it's only $12 cheaper than the Nspire. Forget about Ebay, because few people ships in Canada and those who does sells their stuff at about $90-100 and this doesn't include the insane shipping fees sometimes going up to $30 and then at the post office I need to pay more fees so I can get a brand new calc for the same price at Staples and ensure I will receive it and that it will work. Here's the calc prices where I live:
TI-83+: $124 (sometimes it gets cheaper when there's rebatess)
TI-84+: $147
TI-Nspire: $159
TI-84+SE: $177
TI-89t: $187
These are the only calc they sell

As far as I've heard about the Nspire, the calculator with the keyboard attachment *is* 84+ compatible except for one thing : None of those "unsupported" instructions that are found when using a real z80 or similar are there, so you'll need to beware of some of the applications that use them. The best known example is MirageOS, which requires a patch to make work on the Nspire.

AAah ok I see, so I guess I would be better with a 84+ then. I would hate if xLIB or CelticIII didn't even worked fine on them or had glitches caused by these incompatibilities

Is the normal 84+ 15mhz? If so that's what I'd suggest. That or a used TI-83+SE, if you can manage to find one at a decent price.

Well if you can get a 83+se or 84+se on ebay go for that if not you could go with the Nspire 84 keypad version since you'll be able to play most 84 games on it and it is cheaper than the 84+se. if you know where you can get usb adapters you could get a plain 84+ and use MSD8x so that you'll have more memory tough you'll have to constantly load file to and from the flash drive.

Well I sometimes check ebay but what's shipped internationally is usually more expensive and with shipping costs (sometimes of about $40) I could get a calc cheaper at a local store brand new. I might get some luck with an SE though, but I don't always trust ebay for buying such stuff though, because if the thing doesn't work I need to pay lot of money to ship it back then to get a new one back
And yes 83+SE is the best imho, fastest calc in the z80 line
(This is funny when I think about it. I finished school 4 years ago and haven't done math for even longer yet I want to buy a new graphing calculator XD. I guess this show how much more than math these platforms can do)

Did you ever think of buying a 68k calculator? Even though they are much more expensive, it would be a great
opportunity to see how it works=) Or maybe i'm being ignorant, and you are already an expert at 68k calcs too.

THough, I'll have to admit, after using Z80 calcs for a long time, the transition to 68k calcs is a lot different. I remember on my first 89 titanium, all the buttons were shifted, i couldn't tell the difference between the vars menu and mem menu, I couldn't play games, and you had to type in the extra ")" after your programs!!!!! Crazy!

I alerady got a 89t, but I prefer to code on 83+, the language on it is ridiculously easy. On 68k I would rather immediately move to C, altough I didn't liked it either, so I will wait until MLC come out

my freind has a 89. and i HATE IT. all the keys are different, The languange is sorta different. Boolean logic is GONE. (unless u can make it answer in 0 and 1, if u do. 1=1.)

I notice a suddent increase in necroposting lately...
On the old board this happened from time to time, but at least they had a justified reason (such as for example, somebody asks calc help, he gets an awnser, then someone else who has the same problem tries what the awnserer said but it doesn,t work or he doesn't get it, but the topic is 1 year old and he doesn,t want to clutter the topic list with the same question, so a bump asking more details would be justified, then) x.x
