Title: Any speedcubers here? ;D
Post by: C3N on October 19, 2011, 03:31:37 pm
Hey guys,
Some of you are speedcubing (rubiks cube) ?
then post your personal score /average / comments or whatever :)  (except spam)

My bedst score : 27.88 sec
my average : 34.67 sec

Nope I'm not good enough for such a good time, though my average time is around 2:10. I haven't fully learned advanced Friedrich methods as such

In fact, I never solved one... <.<

I learnt the newbie method on http://www.rubiks.com. I found the Friedrich site but haven't bothered learning it as to date.
By "it" I mean extra algorithms

i can do it in under 2 minutes, but i dont know any advanced techniques.

Yeah, I would like to know how to solve them... Thanks for the info :)
/me gets a Rubik cube and goes try

there are some good youtube vids about it. thats actually how i learned :P

calcfreak89 actually speedcubes. His best time, I believe, is about 5 seconds (literally!) and his average is about 20 seconds.

I tend to be careful about Youtube vids, though. Some of them tends to look fake, although a lot are legit.

I think Miotatsu speedcubed, but not this fast. Also thanks for removing the caps locks from the topic title. :P

there are some good ones though. good tutorials DO exist on youtube; you just have to look hard enough.

I just do regular (I think? My brother taught me how) and I got it down to about 1:15. I took apart my Rubik's cube and greased it with petroleum jelly. :)

lol! i used vasoline in mine, because ive had mine for like 8 years and it hardly moved. it was 2 years ago that i learned how to solve it.

So how many algorithms do speedcubers know?
I have to solve the cube in 6 or so stages, im pretty sure to get it faster the middle and bottom rows get solved simultaneously in one step

I do an average of about 1 minute.
It's not really what you call "speed."  :P

Same as above -- I average from 50 seconds to 1 min 10.

Once (just once), I got lucky and managed to solve a cube in 30 seconds.

Post by: Darl181 on October 19, 2011, 09:11:12 pm
I've been able to solve the cube for a while, tho I haven't done much 'speedcubing' because the reason I got the thing in the first place was to kill time.
When it started going below 2min I started looking for something that did the job better :P and now with the 5*5 I can drag it out for at least half an hour XD

So um, 'slowcubing'? idk

I used to be into speedcubing, then I discovered calcs :) I would average between 55 seconds and 1minute 10 seconds. My best time is a 45. I was learning parts of F2L before, then I got bored with it.

I used to be... I stopped a few years ago.  Best time was like 39 seconds.

edit: for all of you who used petroleum jelly (or the brand Vaseline), that is actually really bad for the plastic.

For my cube lube, I used either graphite or silicon spray. It worked pretty well most of the time.

Hmm, I've been meaning to learn this sort of thing, but I don't think I have a decent Rubik's cube lying around...
I should go search for one :)

I've never even come close to solving a Rubik's Cube. ;.;

I've never tried lubricating my cube. Perhaps it'll make my times much faster?
Title: Re: Any speedcubers here? ;D
Post by: C0deH4cker on October 20, 2011, 10:04:58 am
Maybe. It depends on how fast your cube rotates now, and how used to moving it you are.

How to become a speedcuber ?
1. Get a Speedcube on popbuying.com or other sites.
2. Learn an advanced method for solving the cube, to become faster.
-> Most of the speedcubers are using the Friedrich method (1. F2L, 2. OLL, 3. PLL) , you can find those algorithms on kungfoomanchu.com
      -F2L (42 algorithms)
      -OLL (58 algorithms)
      -PLL (21 algorithms)
      total: 121 algorithms
3. Learn how to use fingertricks (youtube.com)
4. TRAIN, TRAIN and TRAIN ! ;)

Speedcubes:
Those cubes are "special" cubes, because they are much lighter as the original Rubik's Cube.
Those cubes have a good cornercutting (up to 45° !), they are smooth and fast.
The core and those pieces of the cube are created differnetly from cube to cube. Most of the speedcubers are using A-Cube's from Haiyan or FII from ShengEN. But it depends on the cuber, which cube you'd prefer. Some cubers like it more "slow" and less cornercutting, others like it more fast but have to take the risk, that the cube can pop.

The World record is hold by Feliks Zemdegs with 5.66 seconds. He was playing with the cube "Dayan V" in white.
Feliks average is around 9-10 seconds.

EDIT: How to tune up my old Rubik's Cube?
-Buy silicone spray and spray that in your cube
-Make 200-300 solves and the cube will be faster (sounds long, but it isn't ;) )

I have only solved a 3x3x3, and my best time is 46 seconds. I had a storebought that I lubed and sanded, but recently I got a Dayan Zhanchi speedcube. I do the cross, intuitive F2L, and 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL.

I just got frustrated because I oversaw something in a program I'm making and so I had a lot of programmng time wasted.... well, so I began teaching myself F2L 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL, still have bad times thought, more than one minute. :/

I've done 3x3x3s and 2x2x2s. 2x2x2s are just like 3x3x3s, but easier.

My favorite part about rubix cubes is when you first buy them and mess them all up. :P

Welp, just two days ago or so I bought a rubik's cube and I've already learned the beginner method.
My best time is 2:11, and my average is around 2:30. I've only just begun to do the whole inspection thing to think out forming the first layer's cross.

I want to learn the Fredrich/CFOP method, so what sites/references would you guys recommend ?
Also, are there any good household lubricants I can use that won't ruin my cube (like DW-40), or do I have to order them?

I wish my cube wouldn't get jammed when I try to turn a side when an adjacent side is slightly misaligned :(

I am not a speed cuber.
I am a self taught cuber (almost), so i have no speed.
I am doing my first solve all through intuition, and i am surprised to say, it is easier than my friends made it out to be.  I have spent a total of about an hour on it, and have finished 2 layers :D

thats WD-40 i believe, and I guess any lubricant that works for plastics would do it...I don't think I've ever thought of lubricating it...hmmmm

Same with me, except that I have about eight cubes that all suck. One of them is a bit better than the rest, but then I suck, so I've never done any better than about a minute and a half.

My best time is 32 seconds and avg is 45.
I'm trying to learn CFOP...
And for lubricant, silicube.com inexpensive and pretty good
I'm more into collecting and solving than speedsolving i've found.  I own more than 50 puzzles.
