Title: Card tricks
Post by: TheBassetHound on June 01, 2013, 10:28:41 pm
Card tricks, games, structures, anything cards here! Cuz I get board :P

I have a very cool card trick that I haven't figured out yet. It is a bit complicated, but it is impressive.

Ok, so shuffle your deck of cards thouroghly (Idk how to spell it :P) and lay a card down. Lay cards down (face up) on that card from the number on the card to thirteen. I'll give an example for clarity. It the card is a 6, lay 7 more cards on it (6+7=13, the number of cards in a suit). However, if the base card is a face card, it counts as a ten, and you would lay 3 cards down on it. Repeat this (in different piles) until you can't anymore. Flip all of the piles facedown afterwards.
Get a freind or someone to pick all but 3 of the your piles. Collect those piles into your original deck and lay ten out to the side.
Of the three piles left (the ten pile doesn't count), tell your friend (or whoever) to pick two of the piles. Flip the top cards of those 2 piles over and set aside cards the sum of those numbers flipped. So if it was a 5 and a 9, you would lay out 14 cards to the side (face cards still count as tens).
Count the cards in your origional deck and that is the amount on the top card in the pile your person did not pick.
I don't know why this works (I'm sure I could figure it out), but this is Omni. The answer won't be hidden for long...

(I think I own 4 threads in misc. disscussion now, I like this board :P)

I know two german card games which are just awesome and fun. One needs 3 people the other one needs 4.
The rules are more complex, but the 4 player one is slightly easier:
Doppelkopf (4 player): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelkopf
Skat (3 player): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skat_(card_game)
They are both a lot of fun and require tactics :)

the game where you try to get rid of your cards, first person lays down n asses, second one n 2s, third one n 3s etc and if someone doesn't believe the person who layed down like 2 3s you say bs if it was right you get the cards if it was wrong the person who layed 'em down gets 'em

BS is fun.

I also know of kings corners(multiplayer solitaire like thing)
and thirteen(I'm not sure how to explain it)

Oh yeah that one. Didn't recognized it at first because it's most likely known under another name here, don't remember. (Liar or something?)

Also anyone knows this one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asshole_(card_game)

Asshole is almost the same as thirteen, but thirteen has 4 players and 3 of spades is the lowest card.

I just learned the British version of BS, they call it "cheat." It's slightly more interesting because you don't have to always go up by 1 each round; instead you are allowed to match, go up 1, or go down 1. Requires some more thought on the player side.

Asshole/president is a great game, however my new favorite is probably Contract (or Nomination) Whist

I was recently at a robotics conference where we always played a game called mao. I really started liking it so now I'm writing an IRC bot for it.

The rules for it can be simple or complex and the point is to get rid of all of your cards.
The only rule you are allowed to be told is that you cannot discuss the rules. One person starts it with a few rules and at the end of every round the winner gets to add a rule.

I played that a lot at the end of the year after taking the AP Chem test, but I never won.

We just watched movies and played comp games when our AP tests were done :P

I really liked it and if you want to play at some point my IRC bot for it should be finished(or at least ready for testing) soon

With mafiabot the first thing i wrote was corss-network, detection from where a post origins (efnet, omninet, omnomirc) and then a pm function to send to efnet, omninet or omnomirc, and then i programmed the bot arround it :)

it would be possible, but to have a real fun game you need a good amount of people.
