Title: Darkmod theme
Post by: Eeems on April 17, 2010, 04:31:17 pm
I am currently working on a Darkmod of the current omnimaga theme for all of you who like black coloured themes :P
here is how it looks currently, I'm trying to figure out why the titlebar's turned grey...but I haven't been able to figure out yet.

mhmm I like it but it doesn't seems like Omnimaga anymore to me :/, you should put back some blue in it I think. Also is the background all by you/modified from mine? I would prefer if it was the case. Since I would prefer the amount of alt themes to be at a minimum, do you think you could make it so the background scrolls with the page so people won't complain about slow scrolling and I don't have to add two copies of the theme, one with scrolling bg and the other fixed? I would probably also add a gradient at the bottom of the background picture, so it blends with the black background.

I am using a modified version of your background, and I think it scrolls with the page right now. I'll try with the gradient.
This also isn't the best emulation of the real forum because that black think blocking the background shouldn't be there.
hmm...well I'm leaving some blue, this is kind of Omnimaga, but black is the main colour now :p
The grey is really messing me up right now though x.x

I think it should actually use the same banner as the default theme.

oh wait, sorry x.x
same banner, modified background

something else I modified is the dark rectangle behind everything. Is it because it's on a test board? I had this happen on Omnimaga when I had text display instead of a banner

hmm, strange...I hope its because it's on my test board...but it might not be....

I think it's just cuz you didn't add a banner. If I take the default Omnimaga theme, then delete the banner image link, it will replace the banner area with "Omnimaga The Coders Of Tomorrow" text. However this will cause the board area to hide the background with blue x.x

Hmm maybe...but I did keep the banner I think...so I don't know why it isn't displaying....

Well you may need to edit more stuff. The option in question in Omnimaga case is in http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=theme;th=2;sesc=<here there was a session ID>;sa=settings under theme options and preferences, first option (Logo image URL:)

Pretty cool idea.
If any of you would like another new theme, I can work on one sometime.
I've gotten pretty good at playing with SMF themes. ;P

Let's just not add way too many, though. Because then when I edit the navbar I have to update each theme one by one and it takes a long while

Well, you could let Eeems be responsible for his and me be responsible for mine. =P

That could work but you would need to promise me to keep it updated

I had plans to start charging money when people want me to put them in a separate membergroup for any reason (unless the group alerady exists) or if staff begs for the addition of way too many skins and makes me edit them myself. It's just gonna be way too much work to update anything and eventually I will just completly give up and let all non-default themes rot, unupdated. Adding new membergroups is 10x harder and longer because I don't only have to edit the permission afterwards, but also have to enable all 28 EzBlocks for them, one by one.

Ugh...well ill need to know what to do to make the changes but i will make them.

yeah idk x.x

I could set index.template.php to use the default files so only the theme called "DO NOT USE THIS THEME" needs to be edited thene everything updates, but then you need to edit the file directly from the FTP folders and when it comes to a SMF 1.1.x update, you need to reinstall an original copy of the file, upgrade, then redo all your changes from scratch.

If you are willing to do the changes yourself when I update a button, though, I would be fine.

This is a neat idea Eeems.  Although I don't think I'd use something that dark, it's still very cool.  Excellent job, and good luck! ;D

It's really strange. I think your version of SMF is screwed up or there's an issue on the place it's hosted on. A reinstall might be needed.  Did you try my method a few posts ago, tho? I'm not sure if you saw my post or not.

Yeah... see, that's not the right information I need.
The banner options are in the ACP.

I do see that the code will place it correctly and that a banner is existent in the theme folder, but we need to exactly set what the banner is in the ACP.

I do not understand why the option would be missing and why it would not work. Normally it should work. Maybe SMF doesn't work under localhost mode? You might want to try on freehostia or something. Otherwise in case you missed it here is it.

gah! my eyes!!!
oh ok...let me see if that is the problem...

Normally even if the image is broken it should still try to display an image instead of text. It will just be missing. Remember the April Fools prank with the banner DMCA takedown notice? If it still fails then there is definitively compatibility issues with SMF where it is installed

hmm, well I can't get apache to start again, so I'll test tomorrow.

Do you still have access to http://future_history.freehostia.com/ ? you could put a SMF install in like http://future_history.freehostia.com/lol/ and test there?
