No, they didn't let him direct the first two, just episode 6. Luckily that one wasn't completely horrible. It wasn't as good as the first though.

inb4 it turns into The Young and the Restless

Somehow I didn't find Episode 1 through 2 that bad personally. I guess it depends of tastes. I myself didn't have the chance to see all of the first movies because they always aired too late at night when I was young and the first movie I saw in its entirety was Episode 1. I could notice the drastic differences, though, and that it wasn't as great as 4-6. However I still liked them. However I wonder if that will be the case with Episode 7-9. If people found 4-6 horrible, then imagine with 7-9

1-3 wasnt bad it was just so different from the star wars before it and most people dont like that change. I hope they stay with canon because some of the stuff that happens in the books later on would be pretty awesome in movies(Yuuzhan Vong war...). I'm not sure if disney would allow that dark of a movie to happen though.

I'm actually pretty excited. Star Wars needs some fresh blood and Disney might be the ones to do it. They also bought Marvel a while ago, and tons of great things have been coming from there.

Darn, if the trend continues, live action movies will stop existing entirely, actors will lose their jobs and everything will just be CG. No more cartoon/anime/live action stuff D:
Even in the case of CG movies you still need actors to voice the characters and breathe life into them. ;)

Interesting. I still hope they don't ruin the franchise. Granted, it has already suffered with the Episode 1 through 3 movies and some of the extras added to the originals, but IMHO the movies were still enjoyable.

I still also hope that the switch to Disney will end the embargo that Cinéma Des Chutes and Cinéma Lido instated due to Lucasfilms asking a way too high percentage of the profits, so that me and Juju no longer have to do a two hour bus trip in the middle of nowhere (some place in Quebec City that is next to impossible to reach without a car) to see a Star Wars movie in a theater.

Well, I don't think that they will mess up the movies.
First of all, too many people are waiting for this, they know what the people want.
Second, disney also released some pretty good movies (avangers, anybody?) and didn't screw 'em up
Third, money

The only worry I have is that since it's Disney, which was historically aimed at a children or family audience, they might make the Star Wars movies way too politically-correct such as removing almost every trace of violence.

Here is a parody of what would be Halo if it was made by Nintendo:

Let's hope that Star Wars doesn't turn into this. :P

Looking back I'd say so far Disney didn't screw up at all!
