Title: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on October 29, 2010, 12:18:27 pm
Since so many people seem to have eggs now, I thought I start a topic about them.
You can post about the different types of dragons, exclamations of joy when your dragon hatches/matures, etc.

I would also like to compile a list of "rules" about the dragons/eggs here in this post.
Feel free to make suggestions.

1. Don't have >9000 (or even 20) eggs in your sig.  Chances are some of them will die, and no one wants to spend that much time clicking.
2. You absolutely, under any circumstances may not link the eggs to a rickroll (yunhua  >:()  It just makes people not want to click them.  EDIT: What Yunhua did is fine.  Just make sure its very clear that it's a rickroll.
3. Kind of like number one.  Eggs need to hatch and hatchlings need to mature, but you don't really need to click on the full grown dragons.  You can have more dragons, if you wish.  (Just don't go overboard)  EDIT: Apparently clicking on dragons is still a good thing, though.

Oh, and The Game.

EDIT: Ooh, my last egg hatched. Cool, it's a protector dragon

EDIT 2: Another one hatched!

EDIT 3:All of them are hatched.  They look cool.  Can't wait to see what they look like when they grow up...

Before continuing, I want to warn about something: Dragcave server sometimes runs slow, from what I noticed. A few months ago we had to edit several people signatures to remove all imageshack userbars from Server 134 there, because it prevented OmnomIRC to load unless we clicked "Load OmnomIRC". If this ever starts happening with Dragcave, I will probably be forced to do the same thing with it.

Just wanted to warn in advance in case one day, all eggs suddently vanished or became simple links.

Also let's not start over 9000 Dragon Cave threads lol X.x

yeah I now have three hatchlings and 4 eggs, one of them will hatch soon.  Once they become dragons then I will not put them in my sig ;)

is it okay if I put, warning, click at you own risk beside it?

also, my egg was modded by me and hosted at removedfrom[THE]GAME.

still a bit unfair, please make it even more obvious it's gonna rickroll people.

Lol.
Does anyone else have a full grown dragon besides King Graphmastur yet?

EDIT:

You can keep the dragons in your sig.  In fact, you could just remove the URL tags from them so people can't click on them.  Just make sure you don't have a huge sig filled with dragons.

The way I decided to do it, was have no more than 3 eggs, 3-4 hatchlings and 3-5 dragons in your sig.  You don't have to remove the dragons, because then they get no clicks.  They need clicks.

The small ones can die if they don't receive enough clicks, but the big ones stay fine I think. I wonder how many click do I need for mine to grow, though...

Hmm...I clicked on a translucent egg, and it said, "You decide that the 4 hatchlings you already have are more than you can handle, so you decide not to take the egg."

EDIT: Also, if you want to see some adult dragons, go here (http://www.dragcave.net/wilderness).
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion

yeah you can't have more than 4 egss.  ALSO: don't make the same misake I did and kill and egg; it counts as a living one for 24 hours and won't go away from the scroll for wo weeks :P

so later on today I finally be able to try and snag a transparent one...

ashbad, how can you get another egg if you already have four hatchlings and two eggs?
I can't get another one with four hatchlings.

once one grows up, you can get another.  I would say abandon the egg you don't like the most right now. DO NOT KILL IT, KILLING IT SUCKS MORE FOR YOU THAN IT DOES FOR THE FAKE DRAGON.

But I have no eggs....

EDIT: And you certainly have more than four.

more than four eggs?  I was not aware of that... [/sarcastic]

I have 4 HATCHLINGS but I do not have 4 eggs, though I recently raised my hatchling count to 4.  I don't think you can have more than four hatchlings at a time, which alos prohibits you from getting more eggs (I'm inferring this of course)

New topic: I plan on collecting every type of dragon.  Who else will try for this?

:-/ Extreme server lag on Dcave
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 31, 2010, 01:24:54 am
Yeah, I think that they did not pick the best host. My guess is that they are low on budget so they picked a cheap host, at the cost of performance. Unfortunately, they have 1000 ppl online at once, so it's inevitably gonna be hectic to browse it when it gets busier.

Just Omnimaga with a few users online on quiet periods had slow loading times before when we were on a cheaper host. I am sure even the current one would no longer be enough if we started getting even more traffic.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 31, 2010, 04:16:27 am
I am sorry but I had no choice but to end the whole Dragon egg craze on this forum. They are hosted on a server that is so incredibly slow that it caused extremly slow loading times on the forums, preventing several things to load and when they did, it took nearly 30 seconds. The worst part is OmnomIRC. I checked the page loading and those eggs loads at 2 KB/second.

Until they fix their host, it's over. It's all fun but it's gonna scare away A LOT of members at this point, who will get tired of the loading problems.

I added a bad word filter that breaks images from their server.

The broken images still links to the actual dragons it seems, so maybe it will still work, but no image should show up.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: jnesselr on October 31, 2010, 09:51:03 am
That's sad.  The only way to fix that is host te images somewhere else, and maybe every 24 hours or so, get an updated pic.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: SirCmpwn on October 31, 2010, 11:32:10 am
It could alternatively be fixed by Dragon Cave fixing their server problems :P
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on October 31, 2010, 01:25:18 pm
Eh, this sucks.  I completely understand your reasoning, though, DJ.  I was going to join the Dragon Cave forum to keep up the views, but apparently you can't put eggs/dragons in your sig on that forum.

EDIT: I also have a request: Just because you can't see the eggs/hatchlings doesn't mean they aren't there.  Until/If this problem gets solved, just continue clicking on the links.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: Builderboy on October 31, 2010, 01:55:34 pm
Ug thats no good but its understandable :( I moved the image to Photobucket, but i don't know if i will continue to get views with that fix... Oh well, i'll have this one grow up and then set it free and wont become an egg parent anymore, they are too much of a burden :P

I searched their forum and found no thread complaining about slow loading. I fear that they won't care. Not even one thread or post in news section, and the 2 posts talking about slow loading seemed like everyone was fine with the slow speed. :(

Well, it's a powerful server. It's just shared, so if the server has lot of active sites, it might be slower sometimes. Remember when Omni was still on 1and1.  It should be fine unless his bandwidth usage goes extremly high.

Seems like so. That said, on our final days on 1and1 I did not get any error either, but the forums loaded slower, it seems. I sometimes got page execution times of 14 seconds when posting. On the new server, I rarely ever see any slowdowns.

I searched for "Dragon Cave Server" on Google, and the first result was a thread about how they had gotten a new server sometime in July.
So, all hope is not lost.

The two males have female names, and the two females have male names. :P
I also have a rare male purple dragon!

EDIT: That purple egg is a result of breeding the purple dragon with the grey dragon!  (Does that make me a dragon grandparent?)

EDIT 3: And another breeded (is that a word?) egg!

I can't find how many views your dragon had ???
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on November 02, 2010, 09:34:39 pm
That's because it grew up, I bred it with another dragon, then removed it from my sig.  To see all my dragons/hatchlings/egss, click on the spoiler for My Incubator, then click on my (slightly outdated) incubator.  Salanth is the one in the screenie above.

The purple egg and the blue one w/the white design are offspring of my dragons.

Also, since some people are having trouble with raising their eggs now, search for "dragon cave ER" in google, and click on the first result.  If your egg/hatchling has less than four days left, they will help you.

So, I think if you host the image on a different site, it doesn't get views anymore.
To save your eggs from dieing, search "Dragon cave ER" in google, and click on the first result.
There are also sites that you can put your dragons on to get views.
Just if don't want them to die, b/c DJ's only has like 600 views or something, so I assume everyone else is having troubles too.

Note: It has come to my attention that some members are now abusing an exploit allowing Dragcave image  links to still be used in signatures by hiding them into a tinyURL link. Those signatures are being removed. Attempt at bypassing/abusing the site security features is against the rules and attempts at circumventing the site security in different ways after getting the images removed will lead to a 1 week ban.

Hey DJ, I think that dragcave.net will not lag anymore if we post the pics the right way. During halloween, there was apparently a server error when 20k visitors were on the site at once x.x

TJ09 has said that it won't happen again, and that the lag is pretty much completely fixed.

...Does that mean we can use eggs on here again?

Now, the max users on the site at once now is like only 1k.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 07, 2010, 05:02:40 pm
Nah, I still get lag right now. It's not as bad, but it's enough to slow pages down considerably when there are more than 4 eggs per page. Meishe91 signature (with the modified links) still took 20 seconds to load.

Let's wait until they find a different server that runs faster or one with better specs.

I think this is how Omnimaga would run if we had 10000 guests at once regularly and stayed on 1and1, btw.

For odd reasons, their forums loads friggin fast, though, aside from the search engine. I guess the modified version of IPB they use was optimized for speed.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion

Yeah. It sucks, since a bunch of people around here are enjoying this game it seems. I just don't want it to be at the expense of our traffic. The days before we added filters, activity started slowly going down on Omni and traffic as well. Some people were most likely already turned away by the slow loading. I can't imagine how many visitors we might have lost due to the 500 errors sometimes X.x

I bet those legendaries are gonna be hard to find, and you realize when you got all 3 yuo can combine them into the guardian of nature (super-rare)

I want a neglected dragon, they're the rarest dragons that are still findable ;)

Dj, just wondering, is that a DRAGON in your sig? ;)

But yeah, I get it.  Too bad, as the game was pretty fun too :(
Both are supposed to be dragons. The 2nd one is a hatchling, though.

They can, but the images must be hosted elsewhere than dragcave. In my case, they are on img.removedfromgame.com.

if it doesn't have a link, then it's parents are unknown.  Some have parents, some just exist.

Take my green dragon for example, and follow the steps DJ said.  Nice big family.

it is if you can find a hatchling in the abandoned area.  I saw like 3 thee other day, but the only way to get it would to be by abandoning my almost hatched eggs.  Plus, they're as ugly as hell :P

Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on November 11, 2010, 10:21:55 pm
Well, if someone was willing to draw them and they asked TJ (the owner of the site), maybe.  That would be awesome, though.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: meishe91 on November 11, 2010, 10:30:16 pm
Bite works, from my understanding, that when the dragon is an adult it gains the ability to bite an egg that you have on your scroll. After you bite the egg it has a 50% chance of transforming the egg and you get to keep it, 25% of the egg transforming and being auto-abandoned, and a 25% chance the egg is killed. That's probably how you got yours, is that it got auto-abandoned. The only thing about Bite is that you can only use it once every four weeks.

You could also ask another spriter to draw one and see what TJ09 thinks or just talk to him directly.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on November 11, 2010, 10:31:38 pm
Yeah, I just wasn't sure about which eggs you could bite.
And the lobster dragons would be great.

Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: MRide on November 11, 2010, 10:42:04 pm
get a neglected dragon?
The only people who know (those who have them) won't say anything.
The first theory I'm trying is hiding/ fogging the egg until it has less than a day left, then putting it on all the click sites and ERs to hatch it.
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: meishe91 on November 11, 2010, 10:47:42 pm
Actually nobody actually knows how to do it except TJ09, and anybody he has told. Everything else is just theories and experiments.

The basic theory though is that you just neglect your egg, or hatchling (though it's a lot harder with a hatchling apparently), views, unique views, and clicks and then right before it dies (with about a day or two left at most) you post it as many places as you can and bomb view it basically. Right now it's pretty much luck though.

Wow finally I get to post something codingish!

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/89895

A script that I made with a friend that will highlight the rare and uncommon eggs if they are dropped in the cave, makes it much easier to see them.

I don't think its against the TOS as it does not actually cheat (by clicking the eggs for you), or exploit the website, it just aids the eye.

(Don't make fun of my sloppiness please)

Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: gibaoran on November 15, 2010, 10:37:06 pm
Rare eggs, such as Gold, Silver, Chickens, Cheese, and Dinos, will be highlighted on the main page in red.
It helps you see them. (As reading the text takes a while and by that time with rares they are gone). If you want to check if it worked go to http://dragcave.wikia.com/wiki/Which_egg_is_which and you will see what eggs are highlighted (or at least until I figure out how to make it only work on Dcave). If anyone experiences their browser being slow, tell me (I want to know if it is my script or just me today).

Edit: It is the script I think. May just be chrome using it though. I think I will try to make it a bit faster if I can.

Post by: ASHBAD_ALVIN on November 22, 2010, 05:35:07 pm
you have a 1 in 1000 chance of seeing one on dragcave.net.  but that's not as rare as some that are 1 in 500,000
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: gibaoran on November 22, 2010, 05:39:10 pm
Where did you find those stats? (and they are only semi-rare, and I'd say only uncommon, rare is like my chicken :D)
Title: Re: Dragon Cave discussion
Post by: ASHBAD_ALVIN on November 22, 2010, 05:41:39 pm
about as rare as your chicken.  Chickens are not as rare as you think, people can get them to lay like 50 eggs and they'll abandon like 49 of them.  Chickens can make many eggs, much more than your scroll allows.  Pygmys are almost never found except on the abandoned page, they can only successfully have sex mate with their kind and pumpkins.  and then, they can only make up to 1 egg.

I know :(. My last speriment failed because the dragon died 20 minutes early >:( I even wrote down the Time of death and everything just to make sure

found a "professor" in the field of neglected science that says "a neglected dragon is obtain on it's last day, but not specifically in it's last two hours."

Sounds to me from his hypothesis (I trust him he has 2 neglecteds) that to blast the dragon all over the web on it's last day before the 2 hour sentence of death *might* create neglecteds.

Yeah the slow server really killed it.

We should do a forum search to try finding that one other dragon egg site people used in 2009 (or was it early 2010?) for a while. That one was faster.

Or maybe someone could write a script that does something similar but with calc-related stuff instead of dragons. ;D Now to make them grow up...

Well, Omni kinda went from blue bg with gray/white/blue-ish text areas, then turned light gray with a few blue-green gradients, then a bit darker, with violet gradients, then light blue, and now it's back with a blue-ish background except the rest is less gray-ish. ;D

Someone who visited Omni from Late 2004 until Late 2005 then only returned 5 years later would most likely not notice much of a drastic change in the color scheme. ;D

Before the dark blue + light gray/white, it was green + brown, though. :P

That's because the main cave isn't dropping eggs at that time. There's a big drop at :00, then every five or ten minutes (can't remember now, lol), there's a minidrop of three eggs.

Edit: If y'all need any help with takin' care of your dragons or any questions about DC, I probably can answer 'em.

I was just browsing, reading different things. I had to stop and post to say that I just lost the game.

*Hangs head in shame.*

Damn I lost again too.

I wonder if Dragcave will ever fix their server problems? It was really hectic when people had eggs linked in their sig on Omnimaga... (same with the Internetometer thing)

Hopefully. If I see nothing regarding a web hosting or server move, I'll keep them disabled on the forums, though. Alternatively we could try switching to Dragonadopters and see if it loads fast enough.

Yeah I saw this in another topic. No wonder why both were slow. I think Internetometer wasn't as bad because only 3 people had it visible outside a spoiler on the forums, while many people had like 5 dragons in their sig.
