1. This year (2014 for future reference) Brazil 1-7 Germany
The difference between Brazil and China is Neymar and #4 (forgot his name)
-
I turned on the TV to see the first goal. Perfect timing, it was a sad but awesome game to watch.
Also, Holocaust jokes aren't funny.
-
Erm, I didn't make it up. I saw it online
EDIT: Sorry I'll change it
-
Please no. D: Don't let football invade Omni. O.O
-
That with what Streetwalrus said. The only reason I care about the World Cup is because I always make predictions as to when the US will be eliminated. Other than that: no.
-
I only care a bit about soccer since IMFC joined the MLS, but they are absolutely terrible anyway x.x
-
Yeah, not a fan of soccer either. My favorite teams got eliminated.
-
Football is ridiculous (I am talking about Football, not Handegg). Just look at the last match, one hour and a half of nothing. The only match I watched was Brasil-Germany, after I heard about the results because I thought that for once, it would be a match that I could watch without being bored seeing how many goals there were.
When I asked someone why it's interesting, he answered "you can't understand because you don't bet".
Well, it's true that betting makes things interesting, but why do those people seem only to bet on Football ? They could bet on SSBM matches too.

Funny quotes then? Ponies have already done enough to us :P
Please someone move this to jokes and humor then.

Welp, football is corrupted by money, that's the main problem. :P

Good point... :P
And fake injuries
and cracked spines

I personally used to check the world cup more as I rooted for France, but the team always found itself into controversies year after year (especially the Zidane's "coup de boule" incident) so I eventually dropped out, although i paid a bit of attention to it this year due to how much coverage it got over here compared to the past few years.
Also nowadays over here sports bars and restaurants are filled to capacity by immigrants during morning and afternoon to watch the world cup.
I personally prefer ice hockey since it's faster-paced, has more goals and shots, although it's more dangerous. I also like baseball due to the strategy aspect of the game and the fact that a 12-1 game can end up 12-13 in the span of two innings (basically the final outcome of the game is not known right from the start like in soccer, where a 2-0 goal deficit is pretty much impossible to overcome).
In football's defense, though, the 90 minutes of nothing during a game is far worse in "Handegg", because each play lasts like three seconds. In hockey, time stops completely during game stoppages, so you're guaranteed to get 60 minutes (or more) of hockey plus a few minutes of fights. In baseball, games don't have much action but at least there's no time limit.

American football is handegg last I recall
Everyone in my school loves it. I hate it.
Bars, same in Europe. I'm not sure what the police do, as they seem to be watching and blocking the view of everyone behind them and taking up half the street :P
Chinese team=sucks

I was not saying Football was the worse, maybe Handegg is not better (never watched that, I don't even know how it's meant to be played except that there is no ball but an egg and you mostly don't play with your foot but your hand). I was just saying that there are things that are far more interesting, like ice hockey as you mention it.

Yeah, I don't know why Football is seen as a man's sport, women are a lot better at faking (understand what you want here).

Hehe. :P
-
I didn't even watch the final until the last 15 min, lol
-
I just watched it when wandering in the streets of Quebec City. We could see TV screens from bar Terraces because all windows were wide-open. I don't think I even have a TV channel that broadcasted the world cup because I don't have cable/satellite

internet streams :P

I think handegg is American football
-
I'm not one to judge football players in terms of sex or the fact it's a man sport or not, but yes they fake a lot compared to other sports. It seems to be an overused strategy to give the other team a red/yellow card. In ice hockey, you can get the hockey equivalent of a yellow card when you are caught diving (falling on purpose to make it look like the other player gave him an illegal hit) and very few pro teams are known to dive (Vancouver Canucks for instance). Even the Canadian and American soccer teams often fake. >.<
As for Handegg it's a word used by Europeans to describe American Football (and Canadian Football, which is slightly different than American Football) because they hate how Americans call association football "soccer". It's also used sometimes when talking about both sports with europeans to make it easier to make the difference. :P

Well I know that, I am using this word to make the difference with Football, as DJ_O said. I can call it American Handegg if you want, but I don't see why there should be "Foot" or "Ball" in its name :P

Yay, I remembered right
I now have a habit of using football and when I email my friends they think it's handegg so I add (soccer) or vice versa

I think it's because of the kickoff part of American/Canadian football where a player kicks the ball and attempt to score or something. Pretty much the rest of the play is with hands and running around, plus the ball isn't even round.
-
and they try to kill each other! Sounds like fun!
I think football is more dangerous...
-
True but at least with football you don't constantly run the risk of having your throat slit by someone's skate (if anyone remembers the Clint Malarchuk incident, I can't watch the incident myself so I move down the page or close the video.)
-
That happened? Well, there's a risk...
And now this becomes general sports discussion
-
Isn't American football called that way because the 'ball' is one foot long? I think I read that somewhere.
-
Erm, is a ball even supposed to be a sphere ? :P
-
From Wikipédia.
In the context of sports, "ball" need not refer to a spherical object, as is the case in American football."
This means "all balls are supposed to be spherical objects, but since American foorball did not understand that, we are adding them as an exception in our definition."
-
Lol nice one. :P
