Title: Forums (in)activity
Post by: Deep Toaster on June 14, 2010, 07:52:54 pm
I just noticed a drop in posting activity today. For those of you in high school, is everyone taking finals, or are we already gone on vacation?

summer gym/health + soccer + weightlifting + friends + axe project = little time to post. for some reason, everyone is ridiculously social this summer where i live. it's almost overkill

Today seems similar to this weekend, but since the last 3 days, despite post count being a bit high, the amount of topics that are active has dropped a lot and I also noticed much less people post. It seems to be the same people posting now :P

I hope this summer is not as bad as what I've seen in 2006 and 2007 x.x

2009 was not active, but at least there were a lot of people who were still frequenting the forums.

EDIT: I also renamed this topic since the title wasn't really related to the actual topic :P

Not only we are posting less but also staff projects don't seem to have many progress.

When the finals end, we have to start posting interesting stuff to catch up the activity.

Yeah, I hope some of the projects progresses again when school starts. My hope is that not too many staff/members have Summer classes+job or no internet access

I have exams this week, so yeah, I can't be much on the forums ATM.

I'll have three projects to announce/update today or tomorrow, but I agree the activity's going down. =/

3???? O.O

You have Elmgon, the project you did not announce yet but showed me via e-mail and talked about on IRC and your Axe entry. Do you mean new ones? o.o

You'll see.
Put it this way:
One update
One that you've already seen
One new Axe one

If we post them during Summer maybe we can prevent the activity to drop too much with the plus of advancing the works.
There is plenty of time in Summer, but there are several "problems" like more lax about programming.

yeah people usually just take the excuse that school is done so no more need for the calc, and stop coding. Some people only code in class. Sadly calc programming often come as a 2nd hobby for most people in the TI community.

lol yeah, much of my coding gets done during chem.

That said it's kinda weird we feel the board is less active in some ways, because back in 2006 we started complaining when we had like 75-100 a day and we still have the double XD. However I can understand with everyone being used to extended high activity so when it drops, it feels inactive. Back in 2009 we had like 25-50 a day for a while and people felt the site was rather active :P

The bad thing, though, is if activity went down by A LOT in one shot for a long period of time, though, because it could discourage new members who are not used to it, then it's hard to get them back later.

I also renamed that thread to Forums (in)activity because it was kinda strange to have a thread about low Omnimaga activity when it is 3 times higher than last year ;D (in other words, it can cover both the inactivity and activity)

At ti-wereld we get like 5 posts a day  during exam periods, and strangely, 2/day during normal periods  :D. The explanation is obvious: we don't have any running projects. The only thing we still have is our offtopic board and the newbie help board, which, of course, gets a lot of activity during exam periods where everyone needs help.

(and apparently, Flemish and Dutch schoolkids are incapable of reading the big sticky topic called FAQ... Half of the questions is like: TiConnect doesn't work! help!)

At least some try to use TI-Connect. But I believe many errors could be avoided by TI. I know because it sometimes did not work for me because I deleted a temporary folder for example.

Yes, without new projects, there is few talk.

The main issue now is that new errors pop ups in TI Connect these days, with new computers and OSes, it seems. It will eventually make those FAQs very huge

Yes it is true. But you can put the questions on top that link to the answer. That way you don't need to scroll much.
A great majority of new computers and OSes problems should be with 64-bit and the solution is using latest TI-Connect or patch from education.ti

Yeah true
/me just hopes that when new OSes comes out, the amount of questions in those FAQs is not OVER 9000!!!!

Well it looks like Summertime has finally kicked in, in terms of board activity D:

Still a record-setting month, though :)

Yeah true. I think this will take A LONG while before we get a day in the 350s again, though (or 400+, for that matter). I say the few days after Christmas 2010 and January, at the very best. Maybe a few in November, if we are lucky. I think by mid or late August, we may have beaten our yearly record of 30132, though. :P

I personally need to a rest a bit of forums during summer. ;)
I will be reading and only posting for helping or when the reply is short and I easily write it out.

I hope you still post from time to time and/or maybe work on new projects *cough*Lost Legends 1*cough*?

Or maybe... Loli Legends

I hope that I can post sometimes like I did today, too. Working on it. :D Thanks for the poke. Too bad today I am tired and my head hurts a bit.

Aw sorry to hear D:

I understand the feeling, though. I hate when that happens to me.

Sure hope activity picks up quickly. I'm getting bored. No calculator to program, no documentations to read, and now the summer lull...

Hope you feel better.

Hate that feeling too, and especially when it makes me not want to work on calculator stuff. Nothing feels worse than not being able to program :-\

It will be cool if some projects progress this summer. Maybe some ppl should reveal their Axe entry to create some activity.

One thing I hated in the past is that when I had motivation to program and ideas, I was at work. When I arrived at home, I didn't felt like coding anymore D:

I am better today, at 100%. Running 8km in a sunny and windy day is not compatible with coding in the afternoon. :P Hopefully I managed to do something before going to bed. :)

That happened to me too. (returning from school) And happens with lots of other things you wish to do but you are unable and later when you can you don't feel any more.

Fortunately, when I had school, I coded all day long at school when I had no class work (or exams) to do. If I felt tired at home, then at least I managed to still code at school.

I'm glad you are feeling better, btw. :)
