Do as I do, install Ubuntu on a flash drive and boot it at school. Unlimited rights, and you can even make it persistant to INSTALL games ;)

Good enough, it has a color screen (activate it by pressing the screen :w00t:).
Tho I haven't found any games using that yet x.x

With your TI-30XII, you can play something call, "Random number guessing."

Wut?!? The 30XII isn't even a graphing calculator!!!

Over here we could download or install some games fine, but the only things that really ran at a decent speed were GTA2 (which I never got into) and Starcraft, the latter which only worked on about 20% of the computers. On top of that most computers had no CD-ROM drives, plus Flash Drives didn't exist back then.

I only know dutch sites. And my own, which is crap.
The design actually hurts your eyes.
But it works, which is good enough xD

Also, I loved gunblood.com ; it's a simple game, but rather addicting.

Title: Re: Gaming at school
Post by: p2 on August 25, 2011, 09:15:49 am
That's all quite easy!!
The filter search for words in the adress:
GAME
PLAY
...
You must use other pages like that:
http://www.prehackshub.com/ (http://www.prehackshub.com/)
In that adress is nothing like "game" or "play" and so on!!
So it won't be blocked in school!!

(Tried that out in my school!!) ;D
Title: Re: Gaming at school

omg it actually works XD
Title: Re: Gaming at school
Post by: p2 on August 25, 2011, 01:03:26 pm
 ;D Haven't I told you - Every scool uses such a filter!!
It filters everything like DOWNLOAD GAME PLAY PORN SEX VIOLENT ...
A few other pages:
Spoiler For other game-pages:
http://www.andkon.com/arcade/ (http://www.andkon.com/arcade/)   Flashgames
http://www.x-oo.com/ (http://www.x-oo.com/)                 Flashgames, Videos, Browsergames
http://www.spielpause.com/ (http://www.spielpause.com/)         Flashgames                                       Only maybe working - If the German word for "Game" ("Spiel") isn't in in the filter!
I can give you more adresses, if you tell me what sort of game you want to play!

My friends bring lots of games on their external hard drives and USB drives, so sometimes we play UT and stuff like that.

Also Happy Wheels (http://www.totaljerkface.com/happy_wheels.php) mustn't be blocked.
Title: Re: Gaming at school

that Happy-Wheels-Link shouldn't be blocked!!
Nothing in the adress, that would be blocked!!

Ok I have a great way for games at my school.

Host a club's website.  I made our Japanese one, although it isn't much yet,  it is now on the 'never block' list.
On your website, make a directory, not linked to, to /games.  In there you can put all the swf games you want :P

If you want you can use my site: echsjclub.dyndns.org/old/games
It currently only has bowman, but you get the idea :P
Request (flash) games of me, and i will put them on until the site is blocked at your school.

Spoiler For Spoiler:
It filters everything like DOWNLOAD GAME PLAY |*ORN SEX VIOLENT ...

I think using words like |*0rn can attract unwanted bots, i might be wrong though :P

done.  If you want me to put on a game, please pm me or make a topic.  I don't want to clog up someone else's.
also, please don't show these to all your friends.  some schools love telling companies what sites have games on them :P

All the computers at my school have the crap intel GMA graphics chips, so there isnt much in the way of 3d games we can play, usually, we just play flash games. I remember happy wheels went viral through the school when it came out.

At our school, each user gets a 2 GB "F drive". Mine has like 50 KB of documents, Battlefield 1942, CS 1.6, and Peggle.  8)

For going online, I use (and abuse) the Tor Project: https://www.torproject.org/ (https://www.torproject.org/)

It detects your computer language or country area language I think. In my case the site is in French, like Youtube and Google, although I use Youtube in English because somebody set up them the bomb in French for great justice.

A good way to get past some filters is to type the url into google translate, and view the page from the translator. I just checked a game site with that, and you still can play as normal.

well sometimes it doesn't work, cause not all websites are setup for https transfer. But if omnimaga ever gets blocked, you can do https on it. Idk, maybe even facebook or something might work.

that is called a proxy :P

oh! i forgot to mention.  Most schools block sites by using a proxy!  what that means is that if you don't use it, then you are free.
Here is what you do... go to http://portableapps.com/
Download either FF or Chrome to your flash drive.  (and make sure the default for proxies is none)
run at school.

My school chokes the internet connection itself.  It doesn't matter what browser I use, or how I configure the computer -- it's already been filtered upstream where I can't change anything.

Hmm, I used portableapps for a while.  Tho I like liberkey better (it took forever for ff to launch using portableapps, and about a minute to load the omni home page (even chrome took about 30 seconds))
:\
To each his own, I guess...

Anyway, I think it's possible to block exes such as an app suite from being run off of flash drives.  Sounds like something a school would do.

Yoyogames still has some Play Now buttons. They however Disabled this feature a little while ago. To download a game with Play Now button, Just add /download to the end of the games URL in your web browser.

Example (for happybob): http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/14296-crimelife-2 change to http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/14296-crimelife-2/download

If you were lucky and had a computer class that was pathetically easy (like any of the computer classes at my school. In web page design we haven't touched HTML yet :P) you can get 2-3 net games done in one class.

We haven't touched any code at all yet. My teach promised that we'd get to use dreamweaver, said we won't learn any javascript :( and we'll mess with flash, of all things, for a bit.

Yesterday, I got to make a blog! What fun! [/sarcasm]

"get to use dreamweaver", too bad I don't see the advantage of it. I once tried Adobe Dreamweaver and it was a piece of crap. It's expensive, heavy, CPU Consuming, and all it does is nothing more than a notepad :)

Post by: JL235 on September 05, 2011, 03:19:49 am
Somewhere I worked I was forced to use Dreamweaver; I would describe it as being a bad HTML editor tied to a bad FTP client. It has emphasis on being able to do some project management for you, like a template system, locking files and handling updating local/server files. But for an experienced programmer it can hold you back, so I ended up using my own tools instead.

If your building a static website, it's only maintained by one person, your not experienced with web development, and have no intention to learn, then Dreamweaver works very well. It's once you come out of that box that it quickly becomes a pain.
Title: Re: Gaming at school
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 05, 2011, 03:29:41 am
I just had so much nightmare with Dreamweaver, just from making the webpages. In most cases, I just relied on my very limited HTML knowledges to make the websites instead of letting it build it for me. It was worse to make websites when I used Adobe GoLive, though.

I find HTML very easy.  I use microsoft word if using windows.  And Abiword if using Linux.

edit: I use these to develop HTML files often.  Then I optimize them using Notepad++.

nano is just a text editor, like Notepad++ (I don't understand the "even"). Either way, I think a tabbed text editor is the best thing for Web Development and Programming, I end up using vim a lot for it.

Microsoft Office Word to develop HTML? I hope it works for you, but it doesn't make much sense IMO, it doesn't have syntax highlighting and it's CPU Consuming, unlike, MS Notepad or Notepad++. And you also have to pay for it, unlike what happens with Notepad++ or vim, or nano or most text editors.

Either way, aren't we get off-topic here?

It's possible to create formatting in Word like when you create a normal document and save it as an HTML file - it's completely different from typing the HTML code in Word.

I prefer Geany, since it's basically notepad plus highlighting and grouping, plus it supports every language I program in, minus calc-specific languages (although it even supports asm! :P)

My school is hilarious. We got a new filter, and it seems that just about everything is blocked (Even Omni is blocked!! I was so sad when I found out). However, Youtube and Sourceforge are no longer blocked. Lolz.

At our school, we are not allowed to use "electronic devices" during school, graphing/regular calculators are exceptions. <3 Omnimaga for supplying me with an endless supply of calc games :D

My school enforces rules more by punishment upon breaking than over-protective firewalls, fortunately, so most of the time it's not a big deal to get on Minecraft in class :P
