With the recent surge in new members, I started to wonder how everyone is finding Omnimaga. Basically this is just a spot to put how you found Omnimaga. I'll start: :D
I found Omnimaga when I was looking for info on Builderboy's Portal 2. I saw Omnimaga was a neat site and started checking it on a weekly basis. Then I started checking more frequently, and eventually I made an account. Now I'm here to stay. ;D
Anyone else want to share some memories? :)
-
I found Omnimaga while on the tibasicdev website's forum a while back. I finally got around to making an account recently :)
-
I found it on google actually... I pretty much just typed in TI84+SE games download, and they gave me omnimaga... So I went in, and after looking at some posts and such, I joined ^^
-
I wish I could remember exactly, but I probably found a link to here on unitedti years ago
-
Well I found it a couple times looking for games but never joined or really looked around. Then someone made a post about Axe Parser over at UTI and I looked a little more. Then you, ztrumpet, made some comment about Illusiat and I checked it out further and decided to join :D
-
I found it back in 07 or 08 or some time around then from tifreak's website. Maybe it was 06... I can't remember (possibly 05? nah, I haven't been programming that long).
-
I don't remember
j/k :P
But there is something funny: When Omnimaga was revived near the end of Summer 2008, the re-opening was never announced anywhere on TI forums. Yet, back then, we still managed to have higher activity than United-TI sometimes. On top of that, back then, we didn't have TI-Boy SE and the Nspire was not cracked yet, not to mention the site wasnt very high in Google rankings. My guess is that people probably found the site via UTI or TIBD links in old posts and old members were probably checking if it was re-opened every now and then.
Now I am curious how people find us, though, since it has been 1.5 years since we re-opened.
@trevmeister66 I think it was November 2006

Man time sure has flown.
And yes, I found Omnimaga after the re-opening simply because of pure luck. I had accidently typed "o" for my first letter in my browser, and omnimaga automatically came up, and I hit enter, not realizing I had mispelled my URL, and it showed that Omnimaga was back, and I was like... SWEET!
-
Let's see... first time I found the place was near the end of the forum system we used before Zetaboards. I was googling TI-basic stuff to learn how to program and the place came up. Stalked a bit. Joined with a crappy version of Nyaar as my first project, got a bit of support, and stayed around (although not hugely active) until I got on one day to see Omnimaga was down for good.
Well, at that point I just kept coding and stayed away from the community. Then, one day for no reason at all, I typed "omnimaga.org" into my address bar to see what would happen and this place came up. So... I joined, kept working, became staff, became admin, went back to staff, and here I am. =)
-
One major issue about Omnimaga resurection is that the majority of members who were still active at the time only used MSN to chat. Not long before the shut down, my MSN got phished and I lost my entire buddy list. With the board shut down, I lost even more contact info, so basically, no way to warn the old members it's back. x.x
-
I was a frequent member at TiBD. The creator Burr invited me over there after he saw some of my games on TiCalc. I spent some time there until I was invited to Omnimaga by Noahbaby. I saw how Omnimaga was more oriented towards games and I jumped at the opportunity! A little while later I became staff, and here I am :D
-
I don't really remember how or when I found Omnimaga but I've known about it for years. All I remember is that I was convinced to join Omni's IRC channel a while back and from there I eventually took a leap and joined the fora/forums. However, I initially signed up as "Sephiran".
-
From Silver Shadow. I heard about it on Cemetech from him and joined.
-
well i found united ti first joined with my wip crimson warfare the ti game
from there i got recomeded my eeems and ztrumpet came join and now im where i am sadly not much coding going on or playing but im around to stay :)
-
I got recommened by someone on Cemetech (sorry I forgot who, I accidently deleted the PM) I was working on a programming GUI (which I still work on from time to time). Anyways, I made an account and am here to stay :)
-
I think it was me...can't remember....
-
IIRC eeems invited a bunch of members around this summer.
-
I saw old links wandering in UTI, MC and other places about Omnimaga. I also discovered DJ Omnimaga games...
When Omnimaga was reopen I joined to see how it is and stayed.
-
Eeems showed me one of his projects on Omnimaga... then I started browsing some threads... and finally made an account.
-
As I was already interested in Calculator Gaming and programming Basic for half a year, I checked out diverse forums.
By following the names of the autors of games, watching vid's on youtube I started to read on this forum. I already followed Calc84's projects for some weeks (maybe even months, don't rly remember) and I decided to join so I could add my useless comments and opinion's. That was somewhere at the beginning of June '09.
I was very active on the forums for a while and started some small basic projects, but never got further than 10% completion. As I was getting packed with work (summerjob + homework afterwards) I used my calc less for games and such and kinda lost interest. From a daily calc-user + games tester I want to a few-times-a-week-user, almost only for mathematical purposes. I still like to see the progress of some games and welcome all contributing new people (w/o you all, calc-programming would die at some point), but I'm not really too interested in it anymore.
When I got into different gaming clans/servers, my activity dropped to about a post a week or something..
EDIT: o wait, this was about how you found Omnimaga.. Oh well, there's my whole Omnimaga-lifetime in a few alinea's.
-
Geekboy1011 showed me some games from here. And some of DJ Omnimaga's music on the radio.
-
I heard about it a few times here and there, and eventually decided to check it out. I made an account immediately, and have been here ever since.
-
Geekboy1011 showed me some games from here. And some of DJ Omnimaga's music on the radio.
did you like any of the stuff on there? ^^
-
Speaking of Omnimaga Radio, is there a place I can download some of that music to play from my Portable Media Devicificator?
-
DJ Omnimaga: Of course ^^ I like your music.
-
This thread. (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/144/144977.html) Saw it, decided to look at it, then joined the irc. As you can see, I don't post much on the forums. Also no, I wasn't planning on entering said contest or anything.
-
Aaaah I see how you joined ^^. I think we got a lot of people from there and TI Boy SE.
And glad you like my music juju. @sircmpwn we only have the songs in mp3 format at http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;cat=3
Most of it is electronic dance, though, so if you don't like this, you migth want to only check the two last sections.
-
My boyfriend is here on the site and I decided I want to try and learn some of this programming and code stuff so I know a little bit more about what he is so interested in and devoted to :)
-
Hi and welcome here (providing you are a real human person, not a spambot :O)
/me goes running a scan through his "stop spam mod"
EDIT: Nvm this account appears to be legit, after Eeems told me on IRC, so all is fine :D
(sometimes, there are forum accounts that are signed up automatically on forums using softwares, purposely to post advertisments to increase some websites google popularity. Advertisment ranges from Casino to World Of Warcraft ads, passing by "hey want to chat with me on my webcam tonight? click here!" ads)

Oops...
/me spits out NecroF-_-ck
sorry about that.
By the way, I found your shoes again XP
-
Welcome Amy/BeautifulEnding.
-
Welcome! I think you might be the first girl we have had join the site in forever o.O heh gaming seems to be for some reason a Male oriented hobby ;D But its nice to have you here! :)
-
Actually the 4th on this forum database, unless I forgot one. First was Cooliojazz sister, then one of his friends, then later Kyoseron (who used to visit IRC for a while). Nitacku sister also visited IRC before Omni reopening.
-
Welcome Amy :P
Now everyone is running toward her, "woah a girl" O_o
-
Oh this is nothing. You should have seen the old z80 french TI forum back when it was also a 68k forum (not TI-BANK, an even older site). When a girl came to ask questions everyone freaked out, same on MaxCoderz when they had that Tennisgirl member :P. These days it is not as bad, since girls asking question on TI-BANK is pretty common and on Omnimaga there are 4 registered girl members now. Note; Noahbaby94 and Drak are NOT girls, even though their profile say so :P
Also at school, when I graduated, a lot of girls played Ztetris. I think that game was the most popular back in the days
-
My boyfriend is here on the site and I decided I want to try and learn some of this programming and code stuff so I know a little bit more about what he is so interested in and devoted to :)
Holy hell...
The fact that this is ACTUALLY a girl on the other end of the wire just broke the internet.
However, I welcome you to Omnimaga with open arms.
-
I actually seized up for a minute and conisdered the impossibility of it all and decided the Matrix has me.
-
Agreed. The Matrix has us.
-
Now let's not scare every girl from the site away, though :P
The 3 others didn't stay active for very long D:
That said, I wonder if Eeems is actually teachig his gf to program?
-
It'd be quite interesting if she became amazing at it and then proceeded to teach Eeems a thing or two :P
-
That's funny when this happens.
In compsci intro classes, when I needed help in VB, some of my stuff was more advanced than most other people, because I had expereince in programming (on the calc) and the teacher wouldn't even be able to help me, same for other students x.x. I even taught him a few things IIRC x.x
-
That's always funny when that happens! I really wannd do that sometimes. I mean I have had similar things happen...just not things when related to class :P
-
That said, I wonder if Eeems is actually teachig his gf to program?
*cough cough* Sexist - maybe she can learn it without Eeems, just like Eeems probably did? Why assume that a girl needs male guidance to learn coding?
-
I intend to teach her :p
and apparently it was suppose to be a suprise x.x
-
Woops! Leave it to me to screw up the suprise ;)
-

*cough cough* Sexist - maybe she can learn it without Eeems, just like Eeems probably did? Why assume that a girl needs male guidance to learn coding?
lol I was just kidding I'm not being sexist, :/ plus that can be kinda expected anyway because there are so few girls who wants to program (I wish there were more :P)
Look if you start nitpicking on everything I say I will just leave the board... :P
-

j/k, come on

/me eats SirCmpwn and turns him into Netham45

NOOO! I can't live with myself if I become a lobster!
-
*Meishe gets a pot of boiling water ready. Melts some butter* :P
-
*SirCmpwn nibbles on a claw*
OW!
-
O.O Why nibble on yourself?
By the way, we are so off topic :P
-
O.O Why nibble on yourself?
Because I'm a tasty fellow ;)
-
*cough*Masochist*cough* :P Only kidding :P
-
Lol
-
O.O Why nibble on yourself?
By the way, we are so off topic :P
This is nothing, tho, the Schoolhacker thread spans through 4 different subjects I think x.x
But yeah back on Omnimaga, I hope that unlike the 2005 MaxCoderz members that the new ones we got will stick around for a while ^^
-
I found this site during the time where I still hung around on TIBD. Someone said how great it was that omnimaga was back up, so I went to take a look. It took some time for me to become active, though.
-
Well apparently Im not as sneaky as I hoped to be lol =P And its not being sexist to say that Nathaniel is going to have to teach me everything lol, because he's going to. I had just HOPED to learn some on my own and surprise him but thats not going to happen lol
-
I googled lobsters and Netham45, along with this site, came up. Finding out how cool it was made me join over United TI (I never really liked their forums when I browsed around anyways).
Actually I wanted to re-download Zelda DLQ and since it wasn't available on ticalc I googled for it.
-

Epic. Very.
Eeems, hold on tight to this girl. She's a keeper. ;P
-
Don't worry {AP} I intend to :) go ahead and ask geekboy or subaruZX about it on irc and you will know why :)
-

I was worried at first :O

We got horrendously off-topic but this topic revealed more fun than I could imagine. :P

Lol sure, that would work great :D Could you just pretend you don't know from now on? ;p

Ouch.

This seems to happen a lot don't you think? Sometimes I view topics I have never seen and something is being discussed off topic. IT IS AWESOME

-
I uploaded sum songs on youtube and timgul and listend to his. He told me to try this site so here i am
-
It's funny, the only on-topic post on this page looks seriously off-topic.
Omnimaga is bizzaro land.
-
Lol
But again, offtopicness is typical of large TI calc forums. This happened much more on MaxCoderz back in the days. Even Revsoft gets this when it's more active. Cemetech gotta have been the worst, though, back in 2004. I think my ROL4 topic there went through 6 different subjects. :P
-
The Dutch calc forum, ti-wereld, is also an offtopic champion. But threads get locked there rather quickly now, and we have 'special' topics for offtopicness. ('WTF van de dag' (Eng.: "WTF of the day") and such)
-
Aaah ok. On Maxcoderz they usually got locked when they got spammish or flame wars occured. On Cemetech they used to be locked when too offtopic and spammish but idk if they do anymore. Over here I tend to dislike when people goes too random in good threads, especially when someone asks a calc question and then spam comes in x.x, and if a thread gets too spammish and I can't stop it I lock it.
For intro section if it gets too spammish I usually disable post counting there for a while.
-
I actually found this forum through Nikky, believe it or not. ;) He and I had just gotten hired at ticalc.org and I had decided to begin work on splitting up various overgrown directories in the archives into additional categories. After a couple of weeks Nikky sent me an email saying it looked like people were noticing my work, with a link to a topic DJ Omnimaga posted about it. When I looked around, I saw a couple of calc-related topics and comments about ticalc.org that I was able to reply to so I registered and did that.
Until that point I hadn't really been aware of other calculator forums/sites besides the message boards on ticalc.org. Since activity there had been dwindling in recent years, I got the idea that I should look around for these forums and watch them for interesting calc topics as well as questions and feedback about ticalc.org that people often don't tell the staff directly (in the past it seemed that the ticalc.org staff usually didn't respond to public queries like this, and I felt it would be nice to change this). So this drew me toward spreading out and looking at other forums (and eventually IRC).
-
This topic is an interesting subject for me. Not because I can say something about how I found Omnimaga, but because I cannot say anything that definitive about it.
DJ Omnimaga says I might be the second oldest currently "active" member, dating back to when it first arrived on the (now abandoned) yAronet. I didn't really catch onto the whole posting thing on Omnimaga until this brand new board popped up. At that time, I've been roaming around the IRC chatroom scene, but got serious when I found it on the Dragon-Fire network (it's now on the EFNet network due to server problems and other issues on DF).
I didn't really pay attention to Omnimaga until recently more or less because I then thought of it as a novelty (no offense, DJ). Now, I find it as serious, if not moreso than, any of the other communities (except the rickrolls. Now THAT is funny stuff). It's just that kind of environment that sort of draws people in, and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to work on and discuss project-related material, even if it's only my own projects.
If it weren't for this place, I don't know where I would've been with calculator development. Here, it's that special place for my currently-on-hold Calculator Danmaku (CaDan) project and my work-in-progress Escheron: Shadow over Ragnoth (E:SoR) currently being developed by both me and Zera. E:SoR, being an RPG, makes Omnimaga an especially perfect place to have discussions about it.
In the end, I may not know exactly what it is that brought me here, but I do appreciate the fact that this place exists and that the community around here is such a good one.
-
I think I remember you were quite active for a while on the old board too. IIRC your post count was in the 100-200s. However it was mostly late 2007 IIRC. I think you posted about Celtic II and another project, but I forgot which.
-
I found this site on a ti-bank forum.
-
I found it from many links from UTI, which I had first joined w/the intent of getting a couple files. Didn't stay that way though... :)
-
The URL was carved on a truck-stop restroom stall, along with the message, "For a good time, visit www.omnimaga.org"
I was hoping for some anonymous sex, but I guess I'm not completely disappointed. :-\

*bump*
We've gotten a surge in new members recently, so "How did you find Omnimaga?" :)
-
Found it via a link in this (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/144/144977.html) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)news (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/144/144977.html) topic.
-
someone on TIBD mentioned it. found TIBD through a friend at school who showed me how to make a program (even if all it did was sum the numbers of 1-100)
-
Found it after leaving Cemetech due to... issues I'd rather not restart between me and, well cemetech.
I found Cemetech after a link on DetachedSolutions, I think
I found DetachedSolutions after googling for random MOS crashes
I found MOS after googling for ticalc's and finding ticalc.org
I got my first TI-83(non plus) from a garage sale for $2 when I was 12, and that's why I first started googling for TI stuff.
I got a TI-83 and a TI-86. I've since lost both.
-
I completely forgot how I found Omnimaga... I remember that I found Cemetech when searching for more info about DCS, but I have absolutely no idea of how I found Omnimaga. Does anyone remember when I first started posting?
-
@Silver Shadow: Iunno.
I found Omnimaga through MaxCoderz.
-
I actually don't remember where I originally found the link to Omnimaga...I did come across the link to here on several different sites I believe, so it could have been almost anywhere at all on the internet that got me here originally.
-
Hmm, I'm not sure...
I made an account a ways back and idled for a while, then started posting after a bit. (Which is completely different than my normal tactic, which is to make an account and start posting like nobody's business XD)
-
@Silver Shadow: if I remember there was a Zelda DLQ missing from ticalc.org topic on Cemetech and it had some false info regarding me, so I posted to clarify and I had Omnimaga in my sig. THis might have been where you found it
-
Axe.
mmmmmmmm yeah
-
I had found UnitedTI first, then someone recently posted that things are significantly slower (meaning less activity) there than at Omnimaga. "Omnimaga??", I thought to myself, "I must find this place!" So, today, here I am for the first time!
-
Hi and welcome here.
United-TI still shows signs of life, especially in the past month there was a small increase in projects activity and new people coming, but year after year it gets slower it seems. I hope there are more Robot War progress as well as progress on the Pokémon games (I think since JoeYoung finished his sprites, he will most likely resume coding soon, like tifreak is doing). I'm still also hoping for a TI-83+ version of Robot War 1 because my 82 has ROM 16.0 which can't run it :(
I hope you enjoy your stay!
-
DigiTan is working on it, I believe. (I have hardly been at UTI since their update)
-
Yeah I recently saw a post on MaxCoderz and UTI. Everytime he posts one of few updates I'm mind-blown. To say years ago, nobody would have bothered attempting such project by fear that it is impossible, but again back then I heard you needed to pay for the APP SDK
-
I was looking around for future ti-nspire mods and hacks, I see phrases like Nleash and NDless and one thing leads to another which led me to here :p
-
I saw a link to it on ticalc.org once- can't remember when.
That's also how I found other calculator sites, like UTI and Cemetech.
-
let's see....i was looking for an axe forum. then I found out this place had a music showcase. Two of my interests combined into one awesome site. ;D
-
I found Omnimaga when I was searching for calc84's 89 emulator. The first thing was a link to Omnimaga. It took me a while after finding the website to join up. I finally joined when I had a question about downgrading the Nspire I think. I am happy I did :)
-
I had known about omnimaga for around a year or so, but I only joined when I decided to start programming the Nspire in C.
-
I found Omnimaga along with all the other major calc forums from the report on ticalc of 2.53MP bugs, but I didn't join until I felt I had to. ;D But it was only Omni I joined, mainly because of Axe Parser.
-
So, I was browsing through old topics, and I thought I'd bump this one.
How did you find Omnimaga?
-
Oh hi! I saw a video of Portal and followed links till i got here. Insta-register!
-
DJ was very interested in S.A.D., so when I went on IRC to share stuff with Eeems, DJ talked about it, and I found out about the website from him
-
Ti-boy splash screen :P
-
Axe was featured on ticalc.org, I downloaded it and read the documentation, and it had a link to axe.omnimaga.com.
-
I was looking for nSpire games. I chanced upon ndless (AFTER I already upgraded to OS 2.0) I found Omni trying to find OS 1.01.
-
i was also looking for apps and programs for the nspire and programming support. some link led here after i heard about ndless and lo and behold i was here
-
Axe. Featured. 'Nuff said.
-
So, I was browsing through old topics, and I thought I'd bump this one.
How did you find Omnimaga?
Yeah I thought about reviving that one at one point since a lot of new people joined since then. I am curious about how some of our newer very active users found us and also how some of the many new users did too.
-
I was looking for a BASIC -> ASM compiler and Axe came up.
I kept looking :P
-
I knew this site before Axe XD
I lurked and lurked and finally decide to join
-
When NewProg came out, DJ had a comment about Axe, so I searched, and I found this place. ;)
-
I had visited here a few times before to learn how do stuff in axe, asm, and basic, but I didn't join till Christmas Day when I got my beloved Casio Prizm. I came here to learn how to start asm coding, but instead ended up working on how to hack the Prizm. Within two months I had joined the anti-riot squad.
-
In essence, this was my chain of thought:
Boredom + Youtube + Dissatisfaction with TI-Basic = Video about Axe and Omnimaga
Axe = 100% Win
Therefore Omnimaga must be pretty cool too?
Shortly after, I navigated to the Axe update thread, downloaded, had questions, then joined.
-
SO I guess Youtube still definitively attract some more people. I remember the RPG Nostalgia series did, but I didn't know if it still did now.
-
I wonder if the ndoom video on youtube is attracting many new users. Also google seems to be pretty popular so far for gaining new users. I recently found out that the snake game I made a few months ago is #1 for the "Casio Prizm games" search ;D
-
I found omnimaga from searches for Ndless which I found off of Hackspire which I found when searching for hacking/games for the Nspire
-
My friend found Axe 0.0.2 (or something like that). After a while, I finally got around to checking for updates. When a saw an interesting-looking thread, I decided to join and help the guy. Then my appearances on the GMC slacked as I became a regular here. eventually just quit going to the GMC altogether. :)
-
I came to ask thepenguin77 about trusound, only to find that I did not have enough posts to PM.
-
I remember I almost deleted you due to your nick then discovered you had legit posts. O.O
Also I noticed a new kind of spammer lately: ones that participate legitimabely in discussions and their posts are really constructive and helpful, even calc help mentionning calc keywords, but the post is followed by links to random websites he's advertising. So basically there are spammers that signs up on websites and participate normally, so their links looks less like spam, although sometimes it's clear it is. When a member posts and has a free WoW account link in his post/signature it generally looks like someone who wants to increase his google ranking.
-
I found Omnimaga on Wikipedia - it was listed as a reference in the 84+ series article (the thread about missing RAM pages).
-
I don't remember the first time I heard of omnimaga but I sometimes(hardly ever(less than 1 time a year)). But then when nDoom was released everything was focused on omnimaga. I was interested so I started going on omnimaga looking around. It seemd interesting so I signed up. And I'm happy I did!
-
I found it after player RoL3 and seeing omnimaga.org advertised ;D
the rest is history
-
Did you like it Ashbad? That game was incredibly slow. O.O (although I spent a lot of time on graphics)
-
I was looking at unitedti alot for progress on nspire hacking, but after ndless came out, all the programming activity was here.
-
Yeah that one was kinda strange, considering we only had one Nspire dev to begin with (although he made a GBC emu). X.x
I think it might have been due to all the TI-Nspire news, the game-oriented-ness and the increasing Google ranking at the time, which kinda helped. A lot of people joined the site to ask where to download Ndless 1.1.

Sometime last October I searced google for something along the lines of "online ti-basic ide". This lead me to SourceCoder and Cemetech. One thing led to another and I eventually wound up here.
The first news article I saw was Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator Wins Axe Programming Contest. I bought it hook line and sinker because I knew absolutely nothing at that time about anything. ;D
As for why I didn't join Omnimaga until several months later, well, I guess I was just really busy.
-
Lol XD, although I guess it could be understood. At first I thought red bordered news on ticalc.org meant extremly important news or bad ones instead of fake news. The WFRNG fake news was because of a WFRNG craze at the time and people being impatient at waiting the contest results, so the day before the real one came out, I posted this. Most people saw it as fake, though, because of the Justin Bieber part. :P
I hope you are less busy eventually.
Also I like your avatar. ;D
-
I figured out that it must have been fake news after I downloaded and loaded the program to realize that there must be more to the story than what I was seeing. Then the real news came out and everything was made clear. Hence, my introducting to WFRNG and Omnimaga.
Also I like your avatar. ;D
I just got bored and decided to write something unusual (in this case a program that displays the Hello World z80 source code). Then, I just started messing around with the image in Picture Plot. Everything except the syntax highlighting and the "Someday..." part were created on-calc.
I look forward to getting my own computer eventually so I can tackle more of the low level programming. The sheer potential of a full color graphing calculator (:hyper:) is mind-blowing and I would love to someday be able to take advantage of its abilities.

Cemetech brought me here. :)

Bump:
So a member was wondering how the current generation of Omnimaga members have found out about the website? (eg Google, Youtube, a specific computer or calculator program, music, Facebook, Twitter, friends, etc)

Well, soon after I got my 84+ for school, I started programming in TI-BASIC on it (which was the first time I ever programmed BTW). I didn't know yet that there was a big online comunity about it yet, so I just made some games on my own. A few months later, I discovered how to program on a computer, and while a computer is much more powerfull than a calculator, the challenge of the limited hardware together with the simplicity of the calculator (and it's availability during school) kept me interested.
3 years later, there was a period in school in which teachers were regularly absent, which meant that lessons were often replaced by 'study' hours (in which you have to sit silently in a classroom and can do homeword), which were obviously pretty boring when you don't have much homework, so I started searching the internet for more games to put on my calculator. I found a lot of them on ticalc, and there I also discovered that the calculator can be programmed in a different language that's a lot more powerfull than TI-BASIC: assembly, so I decided to look into that.
I learned the basics of assembly from some internet tutorials, and then decided to create a 3D engine with it as my first real project since I was programming 3D games on my computer at that time and I wanted to do the same on my calc.
Off course, starting a big project as a beginner ofthen doesn't go as expected, so after a while I got stuck and decided to look for help. At first, I ended up at Ti-Wereld (a Dutch calculator community), but decided to move on due to the very low activity. Then I eventually ended up here at Omnimaga.

hmm my story is a bit confusing one for me :P
When I got my Nspire CX i was disappointed by the limited software onboard such a powerful device. First thing I searched online was games :P I found TIcalc. Some of the ReadMes had TIPlanet and Omnimaga mentioned. I first went to TIPlanet but seeing that it was french i focused on Omnimaga. Because I was still shy of forums at that time ( even though i suggested opening my forum for calculator help later on) i lurked as a guest on omnimaga for like 2 months before joining in as hking1 XD

Well, two years ago I was happy to get a new shiny piece of technology that could even do math and some friends told me you can play games on,
so I did a quick search "hack nspire" and found this forum here.
I way curious how it works and I programmed some small crappy games for 3.1, but I didn't join until I found the linux thread.

Not sure if I count as 'current generation', as 3 years seems quite a bit more than a newbie but still a lot less than a veteran.
Anyways, unlike many people here, I was introduced to this website (and calculator programming, for that matter) by a friend of mine - Buttsfredkin (more recently LincolnB). He's since gone, but I'm still here [occasionally]. :)

Before I joined I always thought forums were crap <_<

That was my impression too.
As to how I found it here? I just followed my heart <3

I literally just stumbled across Omnimaga multiple times whenever I had questions I needed to answer about programming. That was while I was taking my first steps to programming on the Ti-84. I then thought about joining the forums, and when I did it felt awkward at first, it was my first real forum, and actually still is ( XD ). But I quickly fit in, and boom here I am now. Had a bit of inactivity beginning 2014, but I bounced back.
EDIT: Actually Ben_g's story is pretty much exactly the same as mine. Like to the last little detail too. O.O

so I did a quick search "hack nspire" and found this forum here.
And two years later instead of "crappy games" you work on Ndless, Linux, MicroPython, PyWrite, nGL, a 3D textured Minecraft clone. Man that escalated quickly. That reminds me, my first attempt at a real calc game was "Spaceship games", also known as "god so much shit" <_<
4 years ago I followed the French Axe tutorial (the biggest Axe tutorial that you can find on the internet) and I saw Omnimaga as a community forum in English. Since I was quite good at English at the time (I was still 12, let's stay realistic), I decided to come here.

You forgot pwmtest :P Yeah, I wouldn't have expected that I'll find a new hobby here.

My first was a snake clone. White background and the snake was in rainbow colors.

How did you get to Axe? How did you get hold of a TI calc at 12?
My english was abysmally bad back then. It improved significantly after I started watching mainly english videos on youtube, most of them Let's plays.

I found games on ticalc, then i found doors on ticalc, then i found cemetech, then i found axe, and then i found omni :P
-
well, three years ago I got a nspire, looked up if I could get games on it, found omnimaga, didn't join until recently (3 years later)

Sorry I was actually 13. I had a TI calc because I entered highschool (I skipped a year of school), and I made sure to get a TI-83+ because I noticed the Axe tutorial by sheer luck on some (huge) French programming tutorial base.
-
I found Omni because I joined TSA last year, did calc robots, made a google site on coding, found Cemetech through the internet (somehow), and after I was banned from Ceme came to Omni.
-
I was browsing the interwebs one day...and somehow ended up here. I have interest in programming and got a calc (first graphing one was the Casio Prizm), so I stayed.
-
The great and powerful google ;)
-
At the beginning of school last year, I was already pretty interested in learning how to program, and I got a CSE for school. It was on a discount, and somehow was even less then the monochrome models O.O
Anyway, I searched up "how to program a TI-84+CSE" and came to TI Basic Dev. I stayed there for a while, and I saw one of the links to a calculator site, so I clicked it, and ended up here :)

I remember make a similar topic (http://www.omnimaga.org/other-calculator-discussion-and-news/first-experience-with-calc-programsprogramming) a while back. I don't have time to say much, but I'll post about it later.
-
I first found omnimaga when looking for a frotz interpreter for TI calculators, but only joined after I got my Nspire CX CAS and tried installing linux on it.

Before I joined I always thought forums were crap <_<
That was my thoughts exactly too, now i think exactly opposite <_<

I was the same until the PMOG/The Nethernet forums. They warmed me up for here.
