Title: I apologize...
Post by: {AP} on March 14, 2009, 04:08:23 pm
So... as you've all probably noticed... progress on Nyaar has been stopped for quite some time.
Frankly, I don't know when I'll be back in the mood to continue the project.
Could be tomorrow, could be in a few months... who knows?

I'm continuing to program, but I'm working on a project in Python. (well, kinda... I'll explain when I get more work done)
So... once again, I apologize... but Nyaar is officially on hiatus until further notice.

(BTW, a lot of the problem is things that's been going on IRL. I just haven't been the same at all for about 6 weeks or so now.)

Hope things get better for you ;D  But remember: you only have 15 years to finish this.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope things gets better for you. However, would you mind sharing what you are working on on Python at the time? I am kinda curious

Alrighty, I can at least tell you what I'm trying to do.
Have you ever heard of a 'visual novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_novel)'? Think 'Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books' but on a computer, with pictures, music and such.
In it's current form, that's the basis of it.

As you may have seen from the 'Wee! Coloring!' topic... I've become quite obsessed with MegaTokyo (http://www.megatokyo.com/).
So, I'm translating the entire webcomic into a 'visual novel' form. Aside from my addiction to the story, the community (http://forums.megatokyo.com/index.php?act=idx) there also has been REALLY looking forward to someone who can actually get the project rolling.
So, I took the initiative.

It's a pretty freakin' big project and the best part is that after I've gotten it going enough, I can take long breaks from it due to the fact that I'll have someone else to help out from the community over there.
Assuming I'm successful, I'll get quite a large amount of fame. (in general, not just in their community) So, it also has other perks.

If you guys are interested, I'll make a topic in this area for the project.

Well... you can save at any time... plus you can go back to previous messages at a key press.
So... does that answer your question? =D

So it's working a bit like Advanced Dungeon And Dragons but more pictures than text?

Anyway I hope you finish it and I hope you don't quit calc stuff for good either ;)

Actually... I was thinking about that last night before I went to bed.
I'm just wondering what exactly to do... Oh well.
I'm stuck cleaning my room today... (it REALLY needs it)
So, I guess I have a lot of time to think.

Usually it's better to start smaller anyway for first projects (noticing you haven't released any other RPG on ticalc I assumed it is your first RPG project). Some people wants to do something with over 9000 maps and that will take the entire calc archive plus more but a RPG takes a while to code. When I started up my first two rpgs had 2 dungeons and lasted under 1 hour, then I moved to 4 dungeons, 5, 6 and then multiple chapters. Keep in mind I had few ressources to learn at the time and most tricks we have today on UTI and other places weren't known back then, so my coding was much more worse than most of you, even after 2 years of experience. Today there are people who are better than me at optimizing even if they didn't even do BASIC for 1 year lol :P
