Japan struck by massive earthquake (8.8 in Richter scale)

I decided to make a topic on this, since we have users from Japan that deserve such topic.



The earthquake was really dangerous and the most violent recorded in the country. The epicentre was 400km far from Tokyo and at least 3 major waves (tsunamis) hit Japan after the earthquake.



I hope everybody you know in Japan is all right. Many countries have already offered help (for example France) to Japan.

that was good of you to post a topic on this, to inform those who haven't heard.

yes, they say only about 20 have been killed, but I say that's BS, I unfortunately think it's much higher.  let's hope it's 20 though.

according to what i have heard is that there have been killed tens of people and probably more.

and yeah, help is on its way luckily

edit: wasn't it 8.9 in richter scale?

yeah, 8.9, in the top ten earthquakes in recorded history, right above the one in the 1800's that made the mississippi river flow backwards for 3 days.

It for sure more than 20, my dad said they found a beach with all bodies, about 300!

I just heard about it.  D:
We got a 4.1 earthquake in West TN area about two weeks ago, and theres supposed to be a major earthquake every 200 years on the New Madrid fault, so...

Darn this is terrible, there were less earthquakes lately but it started again now, and Japan are the unluckiest ones for that due to their location. Their stuff is built to resist to most earthquake but that one was so big and there was the tsunami. I hope the death toll won't rise more. I am sad for everyone who died and those who lost friends and family in that.

It was magnitude 8.9 I believe, not 8.8.

Yeah it's 8.9, also it's now 1000 deaths :/

Btw I heard some Pacific coast locations in USA were hit by the tsunami too.

I would hate to have to go through an Earthquake. On top of that over here we're not as prepared, especially that we don't get big ones normally. Last year there was 5.0 one in Ottawa area and a 4.0 one a few weeks later, close to where I live.

I've only heard 8.9
This sucks :( I hope not many died, and I really hope the Japanese economy doesn't suffer too badly from this :/
I also hope we didn't lose any users from this as well :(

Yeah, we have tsunami alerts all over the place :S

But that is huge! Especially when you look at the list of aftershocks. A hundred already, and all around the 4.5-6.5 range.

Also, this business with the Nuclear Power Plant being affected does not look very good.  I'm sure it will be fixed, but personally, I don't like the idea of an earthquake right near a power plant! :(

I do hope all affected peoples by this are ok. :(
