For those of you that don't know what it is, Koding.com is site for developers where each member is given root access to a Ubuntu Terminal to play around with. You can install software packages and develop software remotely. It also provides it's own G+/FB-like social media features to share code snippets and such.
Koding is also giving away memory space, 1 GB per signup up to a max of 20 for referrals. It'd be great if you guys could help me out and I think many of you would find the site interesting (if you don't already know about it, since I know some of you do).

Sounds interesting. Gonna check it out. ;)
Edit : Registered through your referral. We both got 1GB free. :D
-
are we allowed to dd if=/dev/null of=/sev/sda O.O
-
Probably. But not /dev/zero :P
-
Maybe but if=/dev/random is more fun. :D
-

They are getting thousands of registrations a day.
-
Yeah, that's quite understandable...
Also woo 3 referals. :D
-
I guess they'll have to buy more hardware. :P I wonder if this can be used for VPS though ? Probably not but always good to ask.
-
Well, it is connected to the internet as i was able to ping google, so i bet you'd be able to run a web-server on it :P
-
They don't even support chroot to get rid of their ubuntu...
Combined with their terrible UI that's enough reason to delete my account.
-
The thing is, does it run 24/7 and do they allow big bandwidth ? :P
Also build chroot yourself. >:D
-
if the servers aren't overloaded anymore, maybe :P
-
Also build chroot yourself.
chroot is already installed and works. But mknod is forbidden and mount --bind /dev doesn't work either...
I tried overwriting ubuntu and it segfaulted (who would have expected that...)
-
LOL weird.

They run 24/7, although when it's overloaded you sometimes can't access your VM.

Not quite true. The servers run 24/7 but they spin down your VM when you aren't connected.

So you can't have a screen with some bot running? :(

So you can't have a screen with some bot running? :(
You could, but it would disconnect as soon as you stopped using it.
They do not intend to allow you guys to use them as hosting, just for a development platform.
-
Not unless you pay a subscription.
-
Can you re-initilize your vps somewhere in the case you have some fun and try out how to kill linux most effitiently?
-
You can re-initialize it.
-
You can, under "Environment" in the drop down menu on the top right.
-
Ok, imma try some death commands for the fun then, tomorrow >:D
-
