I turned on my calc 84+SE OS 2.53MP I was pressing randowm buttons and I got Clear Apps programs for Singapore ??? O.O
After trying more it was 2 and 8 hald them while calcis off turn it on while holding the and  Why is this???
-
I have absolutely no idea what you just said. Please clarify.

He did the key combo 8+2 while he turned on the calc. What it does is disable/delete stuff, except for certain localization apps (language files, pretty much)
8+5+on does about the same. [→]+[←]+on , too.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but iirc it's for teachers to keep people from cheating. Or for a calc-literate person to be a complete jerk...
There's a patch to disable *some* of them at http://brandonw.net/calcstuff/patchptt.zip (http://brandonw.net/calcstuff/patchptt.zip)
EDIT: screenies, I'm guessing the first should look familiar...
EDIT2: anybody know what the diagnostic things are, btw? only time i've ever used them (tokens at least) was in axe :P
EDIT3: ptt in 2.55 has more options...

Yeah, they have to do with using the various commands in the [Stat] [Right] menu, like LinReg and PwrReg. It displays additional info when figuring out the formula to fit the data to.

8+2 is for Singapore because TI apparently has special rules there. 8+5 is for everyone else. Both of these combinations give you the option to delete all apps and programs (such as before a test), as in those 'shots Darl posted.
←+→ is completely different. It's a feature for teachers called Push-To-Test (still not sure why it's called that), which basically disables the APP and PRGM buttons, menus, and systems and locks a few other features, until a variable is sent through the link port. It's there to allow teachers to make sure students don't cheat on tests, but avoids the hassles of deleting all the files on the student's own calculator.
The really sucky thing is that PTT also deletes all your groups. There seems to be no real reason for that except that TI was too lazy to disable the GROUP menu and thought "What the heck, let's just get rid of them," so don't just don't run PTT unless you're testing it out for some reason.
EDIT: And yeah, run that patcher by BrandonW Darl linked to.

Man....TI is so strange...
-
Teachers wanted a way to keep students from cheating, so there it is.
-
I wonder what's the difference between regular program clears and singapore...
-
They're the same. I think singapore is the code name for the OS.
-
I always thought Singapore clear thing left a few language apps alone...
-
I think Singapore leaves localization (language) apps intact or something like that.
EDIT: Ninja'd.
-
I'm so useless that I just tried it. I can tell that it does clear all the mem (°-.-) :'(.
-
Press-to-Test: Press these puttons to take test. :D

False. The codename for the 83+ series OS is "Cerberus." You can still see references to this in ti83plus.inc such as "new apps for Cerberus" (the new "external" applications (Flash applications)).
And as stated, the "Singapore" reset leaves a couple more Flash applications intact on reset.

It only checks their names. Nothing can stop us from renaming DoorsCS to Espanol. :D
Yeah, the PTT feature is kind of a stupid feature, although it lets paranoid teachers keep their kids on equal levels without destorying their memory. However, tests can be written so that it doesn't matter what the kids have on their calc.

Something can stop me : I also have the Espanol app.

Actually, the worst part about this is that even if you do manage to ungroup something while PTT is active (os mods), you still can't run the programs. So that makes me wonder why on earth they delete the groups.

That would actually do a lot more damage than you think :). "Espanol" would still think it's name is DoorsCS7, so I know at least the OFFSCRPT hook wouldn't work.

I always thought Singapore clear thing left a few language apps alone...
Oh, maybe that's the difference. I kinda forgot about language apps, which is quite ironic considering I used Français during 5 years (yay for greek characters access via CATALOG)
Also for the PTT mode, I kinda miss the days when teachers couldn't enable it on our calcs, due to PTT not even existing yet (in my case, the 84+ didn't exist at all)

No kidding. I'd hate to have to deal with PTT.

Oh yeah that was really useful. I wonder why they never enabled it in English mode.
