Title: Model UN

Does anyone else here have a Model UN aka MUN program at their school. What it is is that you are assigned a country and a UN committee and you must research its policy for that committee's topic(s). Often you will have to write a policy paper ahead of time and submit that to the chairs. The chairs are students who run each committee. An MUN conference will be hosted by a school and many other schools will attend. In committee you debate policy and write resolutions. In the end everyone votes on the resolutions. At the closing ceremonies awards are given to the delegates who showed good skills. The awards from least to greatest are Commendation, Outstanding, and only one Gavel for the best delegate. Now these rules vary from conference to conference, but for the most part is the same. I quite enjoy doing MUN and it can be very rewarding. Next year I will be traveling to the Royal Russel Conference in the UK.

Hmm nope I do not remember ever having that at school, but I do not live in USA. The only kind of stuff we had that involved going in other countries were student exchanges, where students from USA went to our school and students from our school went where the american students study. Opposite families hosted them.

MUN is found internationally not just in the US, but many schools don't have it. It is quite popular in schools around where I live, but perhaps not as much in other areas.

Ah ok. Maybe it's a program for more fortunate and private schools.

No not really. Yes my school does travel much more than others because we are private, but almost every public school in around my area has an MUN program. In fact I know that one public school in Los Angeles is going on a trip in Turkey this year.

Part of the reason why there is either lots of schools with MUN in an area or none is because the majority of conferences are local so that if few other nearby schools don't have MUN then there are no conferences.

I've never even heard of it till I read this topic. sounds fun though.

Maybe its only for more fortunate schools and schools close to where they meet.

It's so much work at our school that some of us call it AP MUN :P
