Pretty self explanatory, post any pet peeves that you have here if you want to.
Here are mine
1: Speed of TI-BASIC
2: RAM clears
3: being woken up too early
4: those irritating people who never leave you alone
I am interested to see the replies
-
Mine-
1: forgetting to predefine functions in c (and other stupid errors like that)
2: not being hungry at breakfast time, and then being starving by 10:30
3: self-righteous/smug people who constantly try to have ethical debates with you (similar to guy's #4)
4: getting points taken off of quizzes/tests for not showing enough work

@tloz128
I completely agree with number four. I hate/d that :( I mean why mark us points down for being smart?

it's also one of my pet peeves, but it does make sense. what if someone didn't study, peeked over at his classmate's answers and just copied them down without work?

I would think eventually they would figure out that some of us do the problem so fast we cant show work, and know who we are.
EDIT: 100th post!
-
Ya, I know it makes sense.
-
Well, now, that depends on the class size. In a small class, that's possible. But it's a fine line between cheating and not. I will usually do a few problems with work, to show I understand and know the concept, then do the rest usually without it.
My pet peeves:
1. The showing work thing.
2. When people don't drive the speed limit.
3. When people automatically assume you don't have a clue what you are talking about, and say that you are wrong repeatedly. The only time this is not a pet peeve, is when it is in math class. Then, when they are wrong, it is wrong. period. So, I can just sit back and watch until they figure it out. ;-)
4. When people are really arrogant. (Honestly, the reason that this is a pet peeve, is because I do it too sometimes, and I don't like to. So I am trying to stop.)
-
1. Getting points taken off math quizzes/tests (all subjects, except english, at that) for mispelling things
2. Reading novels (I could read math books, programming stuff, science stuff for hours, but novels...)
3. People who only know how to use 4 functions on a graphing calculator
-
Figured I would finally answer. Some are repeats.
-Getting marked off for spelling in subjects other than English/writing/etc. (I mean, really?)
-Getting marked off for not showing enough work when I know how to do the problem but doing the work slows me down.
-When I make stupid mistakes when programming.
-When people don't listen to my suggestion or an idea or they just take control or something.
-When people use the word "retarded" for people who are just not smart or as a word to describe something (an adjective, if you will).
I'm sure there are more but that's just off the top of my head.
-
1. the points taken off for lack of shown work. really, in like 3rd grade, i would get points taken off for things like 7*13=91 The teachers want me 7*7*7*7... and so on.... come on teach. its easy math.
2. people who only talk to really dumb people so they get called smart (regardless of how much an idiot he/she is). Then he/she feels that he/she is really smart and talks to us smart kids acting as if we are dumb for not knowing words he made up...!!!!!
3. People who can't figure this math question out in under 10 sec in their head. ( it took my math teacher over 40 min to figure it out in math class.)
what is the smallest integer x can be in this equation? (2^x)/6
4. trolls. they are mean and smelly. (in real life too, most football players here...)
5. bomb threats that cause you to miss math class cuz. you are sitting outside for over 2 hours in record high temperatures. ( no going to get water, restroom, or shade....)
6. people who pass you at 60 mph on 20 mph 2 way roads. ( really happens to me.) (on a windy road too.) (windy as in curvy)

1- happened yesterday in FST class. i think we all know how to make a stem and leaf plot as sophomores and juniors, am i right?
3- happened two days ago in FST class. except it was Raylin's Gravity instead of Mario.
- when your FST teacher tells you something is impossible on your calculator, and then you accomplish it. happened today in FST class, go figure.

1. A teacher spending talking the entire period about their life--and then complaining about a lack of time at the end of the period
2. Having to sit and listen to your math teacher explain how to do something VERY simple (finding the zero of functions, for example) on a calculator
3. People who do bad in school so they can go to summer school
4. People who use drugs and brag about it like they are better than you
5. People who are late to class just because they are talking in the halls

And wow 2 pages in less than a day, unexpected.

Functions, Statistics, Trig., I believe
-
it stands for Functions Statistics and Trigonometry. god only knows why my school doesn't call it something normal, like pre-calc or just trig, since it's mainly trig anyway.
apcalc, i actually kinda like the #4. the people who brag about drugs like they're better than you. build up their self esteem and then watch them struggle for college.

-When people try to prove me wrong when I know I am right, especially when I am showing them proof.
-When Starcraft players who automatically accuse others of hacking when they lose or insult their teamates for not helping them, when the teamates were spending their entire time defending them earlier and now are preparing a small army to distract the enemy
-When people who try to force me to do stuff I don't want to do and continue insisting until I get angry at them
-Thieves (although I don't care if someone pirate softwares or music. Just don't claim my music as your own, nor my programs)

-Trolls that makes fun of you, then when you react badly, badmouth you because you cannot take a joke, even if it was initially not meant to be one.

And MOST importantly:
-People in real life who forces you to live your life how they want, then bullies you if you mess up or don't answer their wishes. (Something that almost costed you an admin here at a few occasions.)
-
New ones for me:
The insane amount of homework that the IB program requires you to do.
Not getting to sleep when you want to.
Enemy high templar + psionic storm + your drones/SCVs/probes = no more income.
-
-When code that should work, doesn't.
-When people underestimate your coding abilities
-Getting so beyond frustrated that you can't do anything
-When people rate you down merely because you program on calculators
-
Enemy high templar + psionic storm + your drones/SCVs/probes = no more income.
I hate that too x.x
In SC2 one thing I hate are banshee and void rays rushes (it's so easy to get air units early now with terran/toss, and Zerg anti-air sucks x.x)

People who can't figure this math question out in under 10 sec in their head. ( it took my math teacher over 40 min to figure it out in math class.)

that is definitely the worst, especially if said person is someone(or someones) you live with.

lmao i have a list of over 50 of these on fb.... i'll take out some choice ones...
1.IE
2.bloatware
3.formspring.me
4.Reduced fat food that claims to taste the same as the original but doesn't
5.People who try to talk like they know something where they don't. Just admit that you're not that great and we'll help you, or at the very least we won't care that much.
oh and that math thing....afaik there are no restrictions on that expression besides x has to be an integer....so smallest x could be is-∞?....i'm not sure....feel stupid..
-
infinity is not an integer...
-
1. A teacher spending talking the entire period about their life--and then complaining about a lack of time at the end of the period
True, especially when it costs us quiz-taking time. :(
infinity is not an integer...
And infinity minus a seemingly equal infinity isn't zero >:(
- coding something a couple thousand lines long, finding that it doesn't work, then going through half the code before realizing you made a mistake on one character.
- stupid things Notepad does
- political ads that go completely against logic to promote their position to people who never take the time to actually think about the claims (like the one I just watched that claims tax hikes and program cuts raise national debt ???)
- putting the finishing touches on a webpage, then realizing that it looks completely different in a certain browser
-
oh and that math thing....afaik there are no restrictions on that expression besides x has to be an integer....so smallest x could be is-∞?....i'm not sure....feel stupid..
Hmm there really aren't any restrictions *at all* on this expression. It could be any real number, or indeed, any *imaginary* number. So im still confused as to what the question wants... Unless its a trick question?
-
1) People who use "f***ing" as a conjuction.
2) Typos in my code.
3) Teachers who take off points for not showing work, when actually what you wrote down is perfectly acceptable by any standards..

My pet-peeves are:
- Rambunctious behavior in the dorm hallways at 11pm at night. (Seriously, 'hallway baseball'? Come on! >_< )
- People who share media exclusively through Facebook (how the heck are us non-Facebook people supposed to see things?)
- People who live their lives entirely how others dictate it (I have a friend who blindly follows parents' orders despite being AN ADULT)
- People who don't RTFM
- Putting dirty dishes in the sink despite the fact the dishwasher is empty.
- Not washing large amounts of food waste off of plates before leaving them in the sink when the dishwasher is full.
- People who highlight spam
- Calling me "Tsukasa-chan", "Subaru-chan", or any other "affectionate" name.
- People who don't give me free cake and calculators j/k :P
- The Game
- My roommate leaving three fans on and all of the windows open in the dorm despite it being ALREADY chilly in here and then complaining that it's uncomfortably hot
- Assuming I'm playing a game just because I hold my calculator like a gameboy (two handed) as opposed to leaving it on the desk and typing with one hand.

Above all:

sorry about this. i meant question not equation.
and the point is that it can't be solved within the set of all real numbers (and stuff,, >:D)
* bomb threats/fire alarms used to skip tests.....
-
lol i still don't get the math thing...could you maybe elaborate more? like builderboy said, there are no restrictions on the expression. x can be any number it wants to be without creating any kind of error...
or is that the point?
-
- Corrupted Back-ups :'(
- When deadlines for projects and tests get extended because some people didn't feel like studying or working on their project.
-
That reminds me: even more annoying than crashes,
-
5.People who try to talk like they know something where they don't. Just admit that you're not that great and we'll help you, or at the very least we won't care that much.
lol that pretty much describes me when I was 12. I was a 1337 H4XX0r!!!!11
-
Oh man, I just had some and then forgot :P
-
Reverse rickrolls, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 (http://tinyurl.com/2btsaf). Sometimes I actually want to get to the song :P
-
About RTFM'ing, IMHO people gotta start somewhere so it's obvious some people will not check the manual the first time they download something, but they need to be pointed out in the right direction, by telling them everything they need is located in the instruction manual and in which section. Otherwise, if that gets too annoying to repeat, you can do like I did in Metroid II: The Last Chozo expansion set the first time you start the game :P
-
lol i still don't get the math thing...could you maybe elaborate more? like builderboy said, there are no restrictions on the expression. x can be any number it wants to be without creating any kind of error...
or is that the point?
Yeah, you have an expression with a variable.... but thats it. Its like saying what is the smallest integer for x in the expression X+1 o.O *Builderboy is very confused*
-

Yeah, you have an expression with a variable.... but thats it. Its like saying what is the smallest integer for x in the expression X+1 o.O *Builderboy is very confused*

Lol thats my point, its unrestricted in every way :P

\
hummmmm.... i am saying two to the x power. 2 4 8 16 32 64. but then i say divided by 6. since 2 to the x will never have a multible of three in it, you can't ever solve the problem. it sounds much better when i say it instead of writing it.
-
But the point is that you can put in any integer for x. It's not an equation. There's only one side.
EDIT: Wait, unless you mean 2x/6 is an integer...
-
Wait, are you saying that there is no integer you can put into x, that will result in the expression evaluating into an integer?
-
Ya, now I'm sucked into the math thing :P It doesn't really make sense to me either but that's what it sounds like, Builder.
-
My big time number one: When people act like they know what you're talking about, but don't. It's not the fact that they don't know, I understand that. It's just that they assume I'll rail on them for being stupid. Heck, I need people to explain things to me just about every day!
-
My big time number one: When people act like they know what you're talking about, but don't.
:P I'm like that half the time, unfortunately.

bro/sis logging in under your forum account and posting random crap under your name, putting you in trouble
Ouch has that happened to you?
Speaking of which I should change my password my little brother probably knows it.
-
No, but it recently happened to Bwang and I feared it may happen to Nemo as well, as one of his bro joined #omnimaga and #cemetech a few times before, and if I remember, they're quite young.
The trick: do not check that box saying "keep me logged in for next visit"
-
I never had any problems with little siblings messing up my stuff, since I'm the 5th of 6 kids, and my sis is only 2 years younger than me. I think I did it to my bros a few times though :P
-
When you know a way to solve the problem and it works, then teachers get mad for not doing it their way
-
I remember some people siblings resetting the calc or breaking it, as well as breaking their consoles and the like. When I was kid, my bro often broke my stuff x.x
-

ya thats what i meant. ( sorry for all the confusion, i haven't been 100% lately. (because of lack of sleep (i am not going to close these parenthesis

Ouch, I would have hated that. Fortunately I didn't get the swine flu even if I did not get vaccinated. However, when you got it, didn't you automatically become immune to it for a long while afterward?

However, when you got it, didn't you automatically become immune to it for a long while afterward?
You are actually immune to that specific of the flu forever (essentinally), but the flu itself undergoes small changes each year, so you are not immune to the common strain of flu the next year. That is why flu shots are reccomended to get each year, unlike other vaccines that you only have to get once or twice (even though I never got a flu shot myself).
Random Fact: Scientists predict what strain of flu to protect against the next flu season by looking at the common varaties in China and other Eastern countries.

Well not completely immune. Just immune to that specific strain the the virus that you had.
Edit:

one other big pet peeve of mine are bigot people. People who hate someone just because he has a different skin color, religion or sexual orientation. I mean, why does it matters so much? As long as the person won't try to impose her beliefs on you or try in every way to ask you for a date even if it's clear you prefer one of the 5 opposite genders, I think they should be treated the same way as other people and you shouldn't dump a friend that reveals the truth long after you became friend with him. I read some horror stories of what happened to victims of similar stuff before.
Having different opinion about such difference is OK but hating due to such difference?
-

I'll just post my pet peeves:
Showing work correctly, but getting points taken away because the teacher can't understand your work (it was a really simple step, just factoring, but I did get the credit back :))
People believing that I am always correct, and they give me a hard math problem that I get wrong
Teachers that make me take notes, even though I learned all of it in 4th grade
Teachers that don't let me play Mario in class

Teachers that don't let me play Mario in class
Well about that, I could understand if you are supposed to do work, but instead play Mario and don't bother doing your school work at all. Otherwise I think they should let us do what we want with our calc if we're done with everything.

not in the past few years.
4 years ago the high school got 7 in a year. but this is the first since then.

I never had any bomb threats in school, but there was one near one of the supermarkets where I live around 2000 I think.Besides that I don't remember. Some students pulled the alarm during classes twice, though.

I hate that x.x. Fortunately I did not have this issue IRL in school, but rather online, in comments to some Youtube vids or other places. IRL comments like that came much later.

I can understand if a teacher want to take away someone's calc for playing games, but that's just ridiculous. Your teacher has some kind of problem with people being smarter than her :(
People who are like this ^
Also, though it was written in Ancient Greece, I feel a quote from "Medea" is in order
MEDEA Alas! this is not now the first time, but oft before, O Creon, hath my reputation injured me and caused sore mischief. Wherefore whoso is wise in his generation ought never to have his children taught to be too clever; for besides the reputation they get for idleness, they purchase bitter odium from the citizens. For if thou shouldst import new learning amongst dullards, thou wilt be thought a useless trifler, void of knowledge; while if thy fame in the city o'ertops that of the pretenders to cunning knowledge, thou wilt win their dislike. I too myself share in this ill-luck. Some think me clever and hate me, others say I am too reserved, and some the very reverse; others find me hard to please and not so very clever after all. Be that as it may, thou dost fear me lest I bring on thee something to mar thy harmony. Fear me not, Creon, my position scarce is such that should seek to quarrel with princes. Why should I, for how hast thou injured me? Thou hast betrothed thy daughter where thy fancy prompted thee. No, 'tis my husband I hate, though I doubt not thou hast acted wisely herein. And now I grudge not thy prosperity; betroth thy child, good luck to thee, but let me abide in this land, for though I have been wronged I will be still and yield to my superiors.
Only the first part (about cleverness) is applicable here.
I can't really stand people who can't tolerate the more intelligent...
