Title: Rating system for YOU
Post by: Happybobjr on April 02, 2011, 09:32:17 pm
1.  What do you think about the rating system?

2.  How much do you care if your rating goes up or down? (by only 1 or 2)
3.  Do you go crazy looking for the post causing ^

4.  When do you rate a post up or down?
5.  Do you fell obligated to?
6.  Do you Uprate/downrate a post because you disagree with someone's rating (as if Uprating a post to make it back to 0)
7.  If you downrate a post, and the writer edits his post and it is better, do you undownrate it?

At one time I really hated the system, and like the little asshole I am I bugged DJ over and over until he would remove it.  I now realize how good it actually is: it probably halves the work of moderation mods and admins have to do from day to day.  So, I personally like it now.

I don't mind if someone rates me down -- though I don't appreciate it when 4 or 5 people do it or if someone has to announce it in public like 'that's just trollish ashbad'.  Other than that, kk.

1.  I really enjoy the system.  When I was a complete troll, (worse than BOB ), it showed me that the whole site disagreed with me, and my views were completely wrong.

2.  Not really.
3.  Yes!!!  It drives me crazy trying to find it.

4.  Either when something epic is posted, or I don't have anything long enough to post, but I like it.
5.  I feel obligated to show a person that I find their post disagreeable (bye allot)
6.  Ya, I kinda do.
7.  Usually, but I don't tend to double check posts for things like that.

I like it.  I do rate posts up/down if I disagree with the rating.  If some changes the post and it earnestly sorry, I change it, or uprate the apology.  I haven't been rated down that much though, so Idk about that.

1. It considerably reduces the task of moderators because most people are being more careful to follow the rules and do their research before trying to prove people wrong on stuff.
2. I don't mind. Usually when one of my post goes down I think I deserved it. I dislike if I call out on someone for beign extremly rude then the person's post gets mass rated up and mine rated all the way down, though, but that rarely happened and doesn't happen anymore.
3. Nope
4. If someone is being unnecessarily rude, if someone is starting a software/language fight, if he backseat moderates, enforcing non-existent rules, or if it seems like he's discouraging someone from working on something. If the post is very bad, I don't hesitate to rate it down again even if it was already rated down, depending of how bad it was. As for good posts, I rate up when I see something helpful. I do not rate posts as much lately, though, since I didn't have much time to check new posts.
5. No.
6. I usually do, or if I feel a post was rated up too much and isn't that constructive or vice-versa.
7. If I see the edit, I might uprate the post. I recommend against deleting posts, though, since then they can no longer be rated other than by admin.

2. I really dont care, it is just a number

5. sometimes, it depends if I even remember there is a rating system x.x
6. yes
7. nope, the origional words there.

1. It's great, it's like a poll on whether the post was helpful or a complete piece of crap, which could help admins and normal users to point out how that post was recieved. I could suggest separate numbers for uprates and downrates, though.
2. Well, if it goes down, it's the proof I went a little too far (if it was downrated for the right reasons) or if it goes up, it's proof people liked what I did or agrees with me. So, it's like a comment on what I did.
3. Not really.
4. If it was really helpful or really rude.
5. Hell no.
6. Usually, yes.
7. Maybe, yes.

1.  I'm not too fond of it.
2.  I don't mind. Everybody is entitled to his (or her) opinions.
3.  I sometimes look back to see what caused it to change, especially if it did so drastically. But no, I certainly don't go crazy.
4.  I rate a post up or down when I feel the poster has either done something that has contributed to the community significantly or, conversely, has done something that harms the community or makes it more hostile.
5.  Not usually.
6.  No.
7.  I will change the rating if I think that the edit draws back what was said in the original post, that is, IF I see the edit.

1.  It's an effective system for quickly communicating the general mood and for encouraging project development and general constructive contributions.

2.  If I know what caused it, I don't really care, but if it changes unexpectedly, I get curious.
3.  Not really.

4.  I rate up when I see cool projects, nice screenshots, and admirable sentiments.  Generally, I rate down when I see spam in non-spam areas or unusually negative comments.
5.  Only when it's awesome.  (Or for downrating, the converse :))
6.  Rarely.
7.  Well, I haven't downrated enough that I've ever been faced with this scenario.  I suppose I would.

1. I think it is great!
2. Even though I have one of the highest ratings around here, every rating makes me smile, and I love it when posts get lots of up ratings.
3. No, but I do so when looking for the post causing down ratings
4. Only up when it really impresses me.  I rarely vote a post down unless I have serious basis for doing so.
5. Not in the slightest.  The system wouldn't work if I did.
6. Not really
7. Like I said, I don't generally downrate, so this problem comes up rarely.

1) I like it, I think it's abused sometimes, though.
2) I like seeing my post rating rise, because I know other members of the community have liked what I have said. (And I haven't worked full force on OT or Tao yet. That's gonna be interesting)
3) Yes...
4) UP: When I see someone has made a funny comment or done something helpful or that needed to be done. DOWN: Usually when someone says something that's bordering on being a troll, or when someone starts another thread asking the same question, even though the other thread got locked (Not point at anyone banned recently, mind you...)
5) most of the time
6) I've done that once or twice, because someone may have up-rated (or down-rated) something that shouldn't have been IMHO, but I wouldn't normally give them (or take) respect for that post.
7) Usually I won't notice.

1.  What do you think about the rating system?

It's a nice way to push for post quality.

2.  How much do you care if your rating goes up or down? (by only 1 or 2)

Not too much, but I like it when it goes up :D

3.  Do you go crazy looking for the post causing ^

That I do. I hate it when suddenly I get +5 respect overnight after having it stay the same for months, then have no idea where I got it from

4.  When do you rate a post up or down?

I rate posts up when I think they said something helpful (like a tutorial or explanation) or posted something awesome (like a project update or some random but cool pic found on the Internets). I rate posts down when they're rude.

5.  Do you fell obligated to?

Yeah, kind of.

6.  Do you Uprate/downrate a post because you disagree with someone's rating (as if Uprating a post to make it back to 0)

Never. Personally I think that defeats the purpose of the rating system (to rate posts based on what individual readers see it), but I guess there's another side.

7.  If you downrate a post, and the writer edits his post and it is better, do you undownrate it?

Yes. Well, if I notice the edit (like if the writer bumped it).

1. I like it but it can be abused. New members can see who is a good member at his rating
2. I care. It gives me a happy feeling
3. I would like to know on which posts I get those ratings, but sometimes I just don't find it.
4. I rate a post up when it is helpfull, put a lot of effort into, etc... When I rate a post down, it's because it really bothers me( Not a post where someones telling me I'm making a mistake or so..)
5. No?
6. Didn't happen yet. So I actually don't know. :P
7. Yes
