Title: Shooting During School Board Meeting
Post by: guy6020665 on December 15, 2010, 01:06:11 am
This happened in my neighborhood, when I saw this, I freaked out. I must say that I have new respect for my superintendent.

Here's a news report on what happened, it also shows what each person said if you can't hear them.

Edit: This guy fired a LOT of times, he ended up killing himself and no one else was hurt. It's all over American news right now, and it happened less than 12 hours before this post.

Edit2: A few minutes earlier, he would have interrupted an awards ceremony for kids. I got an award there when 3 years ago myself, can't even imagine how terrifying that would be.

Wow this is terrible O.O. I would be scared if I was there! A few months ago there was an hold up at the store where I work on a Wednesday afternoon and the guy had a gun. I feel bad for everyone that were there. The guy was apparently very calm but still, I would be scared if someone pointed a gun at me. (If he's nervous you never know when he'll shoot)

A few years ago some guy named Kimweever Gill went in Dawson College in Montreal and shot people and killing someone.

Downloaded and sent in a spam e-mail to most of the people I know.

That couldn't have been fun.

Wow... this is a reminder of how their are so many distraught people in the world. He felt life was so terrible that he had to die, and he did. It's very lucky that no one else was hurt.

Yeah, or Polytechnique in 1989. I think there was also Concordia in 1992. A lot of crap seems to happen in Montreal sometimes X.x

Violence isn't the answer, but not everyone seems to know that. It must be scary knowing that that was your schools district.

Just watched the video. That is absolutely awful. It so looks like the guy in the middle was shot. I'm glad he wasn't, and no one was hurt.

Apparently, that guys wife (Not sure if he even had one) never worked at that school district.

He mustn't had mental issues then, as the school board did nothing to harm him or his wife. I feel sorry for his wife, as this is infinitely worse than just losing a job.

Wow. :(  Where is the world going????

It is so sad to see things like this.  I could only imagine what my reaction would be if I had been there.  I give great credit to all of the people who were present through this for having their great strength.

I hope you guys won't have to deal with such thing in the future.

For some reasons I think I didn't see it in newspapers. I might not have checked well, though. I am fairly certain this was shown on TV, though (I don't watch TV, so I don't know, but it would be weird if they didn't show it)

Really? Its been 3 days now. How far away do you live from Florida? I posted the video here that day.

Maybe news didn't find it as important because less than 10 ish people died or something. It seems when a huge thing like Virginia Tech happens, afterward they stop covering smaller but still bad events like the other day...

Good point, media is a controlling factor of most people's lives, and media is motivated by BIG stories.

This is not to mention when something else bigger occurs, they sometimes pick it up instead of the rest, and sadly it sometimes depend of their point of view on both matters...

A local example: Cyberpresse.ca is mostly biased towards Montreal city and against Quebec city: whenever special events occurs in Quebec city, they only pick it up if it's negative.

man too many of these incidents. I would be terrified at the thought of even holding a live gun (safety off) it might point in the wrong direction.

I myself would probably be ok, but I would be very careful and watch what I am doing to make sure I do not accidentally shoot. (I heard that even by dropping it on the floor it can actually shoot something X.x)

Weird, I thought news was supposed to be fast... I live just about as far from Florida as you can get in the 48 states, though (Oregon).

Yeah, some guns are so sensitive that the tiniest tap can make it go apeshit x.x

I've used rifles before in boy scouts, but a pistol seems more daunting, because you only have one hand and it is harder to aim. It would suck if you dropped it and shot yourself.

Another thing is that when you actually shoot, the detonation causes the gun to move so if you don't hold it hard enough you can accidentally shoot something else or hurt  yourself. Plus I would hate being close to someone shooting due to the noise x.x

Don't know why I would know this, but I think someone took a video of a gun firing using a super-high-speed camera. It showed that the gun jumps after the shot, so it doesn't affect accuracy at all.[/offtopic]

Ah, right, if it jumps afterward I guess that might be right. Maybe it could be bad if the person is scared then accidentally shoot again .

I live within walking distance of there. I remember everyone around here was in a panic for like a month and a half afterwards

Yeah I remember this was discussed for weeks in news and there were some references to the massacre the years after. I think this was one of the first case of teen going in a rage against bullies in a school and killing plenty of people, and it kinda made some people wake up about if something should be done to reduce bullying and harrassment in schools.

Why does the example link on http://omniurl.tk/ have to link here? It's a depressing topic :(
