Title: So they killed Caesar at March 15.
Post by: Yeong on March 15, 2012, 08:57:09 pm
Yup. Today is the Ides of March, when Julius Caesar got assassinated by conspirators(?) Brutus, Cassius, etc.
I just decided to put it up here.

I didn't even know how he died. We mostly learned about the fall of Rome in history class but they never went much into details.

Yeah, Brutus was Caesar's adoptive son and for some reason Brutus killed him. I don't really remember the details either, they probably didn't told us either. Or they told us in detail in a hour long boring speech.

OK. What happened was that they(conspirators) thought Caesar was ruining the Republic with his dictatorship and all that stuff and decided to murder Caesar to save Republic(Caesar was stabbed 23 times with the dagger, iirc). As many people knows, that didn't happened, and none of the conspirators died by natural cause.

Not entirely correct.
Octavius was Caesar's adoptive son. He later became Emperor and was given the name Augustus.
Brutus was one of the Roman senators who was part of a group of senators and conspirators that killed Caesar.
Caesar was stabbed multiple times, as Yeong said.

Yeah, that happened 2055 years ago.
That I think is correct (as there was no Year 0).
15 March 44BC I think it was. The Ides of March
