Why are forums and IRC channels activity considerably lower on Friday evenings, and when there is any, why does the activity usually come so incredibly late at night compared to other days of the week? This is something I've been wondering for a long while and it seems contradictory with how things should work. Friday evening means end of school week, right, meaning it should actually be the most active evening of the week, right? Or is there something special occuring that day that causes everyone to be less active early during evening?

Not really complaining since activity is alerady high, but I always wondered that in the past few years, since it seemed a bit strange that a monday night would be so incredibly active, even thought most people has school the next morning, while friday evening would be less active.

It's not because people are going to partys because those are usually at night and for some reasons, night seems more active on forums/irc

Fridays are usually really good days to go to friend's houses or just get out and do something.
Heck others just feel the need to unwind and play some games or something.

Omnimaga can be considered as something to do while you're supposed to be doing something else (like homework) so that's why people get home on weekdays and just chill at Omnimaga while they procrastinate from what they SHOULD be doing. Plus Omnimaga is something you can do at home on the very device you should be studying with. On Friday, everyone is free to do anything they want. They can leave the house or anything else without being questioned by parents about what they should be doing since, usually, you shouldn't have to do anything.

At least, that's how I see it from the perspective of the average 18 year old and younger. (which is the majority of our userbase)

Anyone is free to correct me on anything. =P

I would agree with that. You're free and can basically do what you want without worrying about homework and such.

I have a volunteer meeting on friday evenings. And I totally agree with {AP}. Also, I usually post in the school, through school's computer

At home, I usually either code, read stuff (I'm trying to learn asm once again) or just sleep X.X Just plain old routine -_-;;
So friday's a bit different, when my friends can actually hang out (I'm usually free but my friends are not until fridays). So I go to their house, get something to eat, etc.

aaah ok I guess it might be school. When I still went to school I had no internet access outside school so I did not notice until after dropping out of college (I just finished hi school). However, it seemed less apparent the first year I got internet at home. Maybe that's because back then I only posted on MaxCoderz and EPS and that MaxCoderz had 5000 posts a month with a lot of european users (who usually came online early in my timezone evening until the other people join)

yeah i noticed this a lot as well for me friday nights are the days i go to my dads house at 5 so its hard for me to make plans on fridays so im almost always on on friday evenings and it is relatively dead ;.;

again, I may be too used to most people I talk to being online friends and not seeing family a lot, so that could be why I notice it more than other people. On friday evening, I do not have anything different going on than other evenings, and this is the evening I work the least often too.

Also I was bored and was curious about how fridays affected the board activity. From a day to another, there appears to be no major difference, except that activity is at a peak on tuesday then slowly dwindle until next tuesday. This pic includes stats from our activity peak that lasted through most of March and the first half of April.

Sunday stats are REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY weird, though.

Well, in North America, when people goes at pubs, it's usually past 11 PM

and most people are under 18 on this forum

In Belgium we can drink at 16

So from time to time we go to the pub with our scouting group. (but this has nothing to do with fridays)

On Mondays and Fridays I'm fencing, so that's why I'm not here then.
