The "Everyone should know this" attitude of people
« on: September 30, 2007, 09:22:00 am »
You know what piss me off the most about some people? The "Everyone should know this" attidude that they have. I don't know if you know what I mean but let me explain.

Let says for example, someone ask me "Did u watched yet?", and this is a movie I never heard about and have no clue what is it. I tell the person "I have never heard about it, what is it about and what kind of movie genre is it?". Then the person goes "OMG you never heard about ? Everyone should know what is !!". I remember this happened with a song once, someone asked me if I listened to a xmax song, and it had one heck of a weird name I never heard about, probably because I am not into xmas music much and over here most titles are translated in french or the song doesn't play here, then the person tell me I am not normal! This f***ing piss me off!!! Another example is with pink floyd. When I tell people I don't listen to Pink Floyd because it's not my music style, they are like "wow you should listen to pink floyd" or implies I am not normal because I don't listen to pink floyd. Sorry to say people, but not EVERYONE likes the same music genres.

A last example is when I post something I just discovered on a forum in a new topic, and I did a search on the forums beforehand to make sure it wasn't alerady posted. Then the person goes like "wow thats old news, everyone know this". I really hate this. Some people even say this because THEMSELVES know it, they don't even know if everyone else know it.

This is all stuff like this that pisses me off a lot. And I have no clue why people have fun like this making others feel stupid or retarded by doing such things or people who assume that if they know something that everyone else know it. Am I born on the right planet?

Having spent a lot of time on a forum known as gamefaqs recently, I've seen a lot of what you are talking about. So many people think they contribute to discussion by posting worthless things like "It's getting cOLD in here" or "This topic is pure gOLD." Honestly that place is just good for watching troll battles...

But, yeah, people tend to force their own views on other people, for whatever reason. I rarely take someone's suggestion to listening to a certain kind of music, because I'm fine with what I like now. Which is basically just your songs and DragonForce...
One of these days I'll get a sig I'm really proud of.

If you want to see a forum with bloody battles, go to archerytalk.com, they have more locked/deleted threads than this or any other forum has posts...

I agree with you DJ_Omnimaga. I don't think it happens as much at omnimaga.org, but gamedev.net is a different story.

I would also like to add to your list.

People who say you should know before you even thinking of getting into development, otherwise you should quit. This has never happened to me, but it seems to happen a lot over at gamedev.net

Also people who say "I am not going to do the work for you." only after you have asked one question, that doesn't even hint at wanting them to do the work for you.

ooh yeah that last one, It happened to me often Halifax, altough indirectly. I was asking question on MC forums around 3 or 4 years ago, and i always got told why dont you try it yourself? If I asked help in the first place it was because I had issues doing it myself, right?

spengo: I don't think any of this was directed towards you, or anyone else on this forum for that matter?

No, I just took those as example, but didn't said names, because it was the best ones I could get now. The Pink Floyd thing happened several times with other people in the past, as well as the Final Fantasy thing. The stuff about movies happens quite regulary still
