This thing is just about the most badass installer of all time. I'm composing this post during the install. Not only does it provide a great means to install the operating system in the first place, it has a link to visit ubuntu.com/support (http://ubuntu.com/support), which, when clicked, opened up Firefox in the middle of the install. Not kidding. I've fallen in love with Ubuntu's installer.
I could even take a screenshot.

Well, that's cool. I always loved how you can do other stuff while Ubuntu is installing.
-
It's the same thing when you're uninstalling too. You can keep on running applications until the system can no longer support them. So over time the gui starts to fall apart and other features disappear but luckily firefox tends to work till just about the end
-
I've always been able to do that :)
-
That's pretty BA. Sweet. :D
-
Yeah, that surprised me when I was installing it because that version of Ubuntu was my first linux OS. Now I just need to install drivers for my laptop's wireless and I'll use it more...

lol, my favorite line in omnomIRC "in the middle of the damn install".
That's awesome. I have 10.10 or something like that, and it keeps popping up asking me if I want 11.04. If it didn't kernel crash last time I did that, and be the worst pain ever getting my system back. Of course, I could click "never again" or whatever, but what if I changed my mind. Ah, the agony!

It's not such an annoying frame in my opinion :)

If you changed your mind you could just update from the Terminal.

I have 395, I expect DJ to have more than 1 thousand :P
-
That's possible.
The last time I wrote him a PM, he answered 3 days later.
But I'm sure he's every day on.
Too much PMs?

Those are all read, not unread. I usually respond as soon as I see them, but sometimes forget.

Quick Google? That's not needed, just log in as classic desktop...
However, Unity is good enough for me and it's what I use.

I like how people boasted about their PM count in this topic when I'm getting close to 2000. :P

Did I hear the word penis used in a non-medical application? Shame.

This is getting so off-topic...
-
Yeah I think this is a typical online slang which was used a lot before, although not much here. I agree we should go back on-topic, tho.
By the way when installing Ubuntu, are there risks of totally messing up your computer when running certain applications in particular that needs a full install?
-
Normally you can easily install ubuntu next to windows (default option).
All applications in windows should still work fine :)
-
By the way when installing Ubuntu, are there risks of totally messing up your computer when running certain applications in particular that needs a full install?
Well, the installer itself is a full OS, so the programs running on it are fine.
-
can't you keep running applications while something is installing with almost all installers?
btw: what is ubuntu?
-
Ubuntu is an Operating System based on Linux. It modifies your entire computer's core infrastructure, and because of this, it surprised me that you can do other stuff while installing.

It's running a different instance of Ubuntu from the install medium. That's why it works ;)
-
So you can do other stuff while installing an OS? That's cool.
The only way i could run an application while windows was installing, was using an other computer.

Don't that take heaps of space, though, during install, or is the OS running the programs only running from a CD/DVD or something? ???
-
It is only possible, AFAIK, to run the installer from external media. And the OS doesn't really take that much space, <4GB in total.
-
Ah that's good to hear.
-
Well yeah that's the point of a Live CD, the entire OS get installed in RAM then it runs from there.
