Title: The most soul melting experience I ever had (hyperbole)
Post by: boot2490 on September 26, 2011, 11:50:04 am
Once, a few years ago, in seventh grade, my kind and loving uncle gave me his beloved TI83 Plus. I have a memory and focus problem... what was I saying?
Oh yeah. So I lost everything, homework, tootbrushes, medication, and I forget lots of important things.
After a few weeks of learning and having fun with my calculator, my mom realized that it wasworth over $100, as the TI calcs are high end. She made me promise I wouldn't lose it.
You can see where this is going.
So, one night I came up the stairs to do my math homework. I was taking the public bus to my dad's house. When I pulled out my math homework
MY CALCULATOR WASN'T THERE!!!!!!!
I had a full out mental breakdown. I just totally lost it. I began pacing around the room bawling.  :w00t: There were two things that just killed me.
1. It was one of the few things I PROMISED I wouldn't lose.
2. It was my baby!  :'(
But a few minutes later, my dad came in and pulled it out of a different pocket in my bag.
I WAS SO MAD  :banghead:
The shock of "losing it" wasso bad I coudn't stop crying or even function beyond life for another hour.
It was one of the most devastating *unimportant* experiences in my life.
For that matter... I'll talk about the Tony Hawk incedent later...

There's one thing that doesn't make sense..
If you were bawling, why did you use :w00t:?
You're supposed to do that when you're happy..
Anyways, that is a little like what happened to me...
One time, I collected 24 dollars... it was my whole cash stack..
Then, I lost my wallet.
I freaked out, because I was so close to collecting 30$ to get a new set of Bakugans ( It was really popular and I loved it for some reason).
I looked up on the internet "Where is my wallet?" ( I was stupid then, and I thought the internet knew everything.. lol)
It said "It will be in the last place you look"
At first, I didn't get that, so I went to like 10 different sites and they all said the same thing.
Then, couple of days later, I was folding my dry clothes, when I found the wallet in my jeans pocket..
That was the happiest(?) time of my life lol :w00t:

Well that smiley can also mean someone going insane and running around or something.

ANyway I never lost my calc but I did lose an entire game after a MirageOS crash once. I almost cried and took weeks to recover. I actually stopped using my calc for a week afterward, except for math.

Oh.. ok
By recover, do you mean from mental shock, or getting your games back?

I cried when the screen on the laptop I had GNU/Linux on broke.

The mental shock. The RPG was 79 KB large, split into chapters, fuilly graphical, when I lost everything due to archive corruption.

9 years later, Deep Thought posted a tutorial on how to salvage our archive when this happens. I wish Deep Thought sent me this 9 years ago. D:

This was the most game losing experience I ever had.

Is that game called TVF?
if not, what is it?
Did you make it?

No it was Illusiat 2002: La QuĂȘte Ultime (The Ultimate Quest). It was meant to be the 5th and last game in the Illusiat series. It was very large. Maps movement was kinda like Final Fantasy VII (3D ish looking static pics where you move on a specific path but it's not really 3D) and battles were 3 vs 1. (except in the middle of the game where your party split). I had 60% of the game done when I lost everything. It was pure BASIC.

The RPG series took a major hit afterward because the games remained much more simple than it until maybe Illusiat 9, then I never made a graphical game until ROL3. The only positive thing is that the Illu series shifted towards another direction and set some standard which let it continue until Illusiat 13 (although Illusiat 13 was never finished)

Once I left my TI-84+SE on an international airplane.

...yeah, I don't want to talk about it :P

Last year, first time getting a graphing calculator... got a TI-89... PROMISED not to lose it...
Lost it about a month later.

Once, I lost MONTHS of progress on a zelda game. It was terrible.
The worst thing about these experiences is that you don't get over the shock for hours, even IF the thing you lost is returned.
In the case of losing something forever that you have to start from the beginning, there is just nothing worse.

I know what you mean...
I had a Casio that I programmed in..(It's broken beyond repair now, cause I dropped it in the toilet. :P)
I was making a game called School Escape, and I was actually having fun making it.
I was almost done, an it took me around 5 days.
Then, one day, my big brother, Yeong, erased the program by resetting! ( Don't worry there is a twist)
I was so mad at him, I didn't talk to him for a while. The next day, he had my Casio at him, so I screamed at him to give it back.
But, this is what got me; he had a different Casio, not mine, and had reseted it. I was so happy i didn't waste 5 days, I actually cried :P
So, I know how you feel boot2490

No...I put it on the sink counter, and then I accidentally knocked it down while brushing my teeth... I don't know how.
All I know is, I wasn't "going"

I think that sometimes it is almost worse if the thing you lost is returned. Think about it...
