You don't have to be specific about the location and I'm not going to, for example (this is a legend that exists),
The lake I'm at has a legend that sometime a few decades ago, some people (probably older teenagers 16-19) tried to make a submarine out of steel barrels and tested it and such, and it worked. They tried to navigate it to 100 feet below water to set a record of some sort and were smashed by the water pressure. (They're still there today, etc.)

Where I live, there are a few legends, many of them not really good enough to share. But this one scared me:
20 years ago, a young boy once saw a fox in his backyard, and naively let it into his house. He woke up the next morning to see that all that remained of his family were huge gory pieces of humans. He then saw the fox again roaming the house and it ran up to him lovingly and laid down at his feet. Knowing the fox had killed his family, he grabbed a kitchen. Knife and killed it. What he didn't realize was that it wasn't the fox who killed them, it was burglar with a machete, which jumped out behind a door after the boy was done on his murdering and started brutally cutting him to shreds.
The fox's spirit was wrongly claimed, and it went back to the earth and haunted living foxes, having them harm humans in revenge. His spirit, named Rabies, still haunt us 20 years later -- this is why where I live has common problems with people getting assaulted with rabid foxes.
The thing is, right after I heard this on a camping trip, my friend saw a rabid fox running around in circles 50 feet from MY tent. I'll admit that I couldn't sleep for a week in fear of foxes.

I swear I remember some around where I live. I know at my 2nd hi school sometimes lights closed by themselves and we had to turn them on again, and teachers made jokes about The ghosts of the school, but we all knew ghosts didn't exist so it doesn't really count as a legend. I am sure there was something else in my city, though, but I can't remember what...

I didn't know of any where I used to live, in Michigan. I just moved to Washington, so hopefully, I'll pick up on some here.

There's a lot of stories about Cuba Road. It's not too far away either.

It might have been something at my elementary school actually, I don't know.
I know besides local legends there are superstitions too, such as how opening an umbrella indoor can bring bad luck or how if you crush a caterpillar it will rain.

Wait, I remember one from MSU (Michigan state university) - there's a building that had four stone gargoyles on the roof, now there are three, and it is rumored that one falls down each time a virgin graduates :P
