Hello everyone,
I had thought of this idea for a while (and some of you may have too). I wondered what people's voices sounded like. So I wondered if we could start a collection of some sort. I know annoyingcalc has attempted this before in this topic: http://ourl.ca/12792 but here I would like to see something like this for each member who wishes to record his/her voice.
You don't have to record anything long but just follow the format I have outlined below. A bit of flexibility is allowed if something doesn't seem to fit. (Stuff in brackets) are optional.
Hi everyone, my name is [real name], also known as [insert username] on Omnimaga. (Where you live)(custom lines)
If you don't want to reveal your real name then use the following format (tweak it if you want to)
Hi everyone. (I wish not to reveal my real name). I am known as [insert username] on Omnimaga. (Where you live)(custom lines)
For custom lines you can say anything pretty much, something about yourself, about calcs, about your interests, but don't drag on too long. ;)
Sorry if not everyone has a microphone to record with. I realise this will not be possible for some people.
You can record with just Sound Recorder on Windows (also software on Linux and Mac)
Also try to save your recording as Voice_[insert username]
Also one important note: Personally you may think that you sound terrible on recording, but what we think our own voice sounds like when we talk is different to what everyone else hears. It can differ a lot or only a bit. You may be surprised when you play back the recording of your own voice.

Maybe no one knows this topic exists?
Also remember if you want to pursue this to name your audio file Voice_[omnimaga username]. that way we can use the view attachments tool and download them all if anyone wants to.

Hey that might be a good idea. Record everyone's voice in a specified format. I'll record mine :P

One issue though is that some people voices sounds much different via microphone than in person.

So for example DJ_O, you know what Juju's voice sounds like, and if Juju recorded his voice, it would sound different to what you'd hear face to face?
Yeah, it does depend, as for some people it sounds only a little bit different, some others a bit more.
But remember what we hear when we ourselves speak is different to what everyone else hears.
At least I think so.

Have you put the URL and connection info in private matters? This might be a good idea for those who want to join sometimes.

I feel like I know you guys so much better after listening to your recordings. Along with the member picture thread, I can get a much better general idea of what you guys are like.

I understand it may not be possible for everyone, however having a collection of voices from Omnimaga members would be really cool, for everyone to listen to.

Cool,
@BalanceFury: on the first post. the format is in italics in the middle of the post...
It'd be good if you guys could name your audio files as:
Voice_[username].mp3/wma/aac/ogg/wav etc....
So that when we view this page: http://ourl.ca/154385;action=topicattach
we can find out who's voice is who's at a glance.

Hmm thought it was [SEMM-eh-tech] originally then when I joined Cemetech and read the home page changed my mind to [KEH-meh-tech], then when I heard HOMER-16's voice had doubts about [KEH-meh-tech] but now that Eeems has confirmed, that's good!

And thanks to all those who have put their voices up here recently. The collection is growing significantly.
@ BalancedFury I can hear your audio now. It didn't work in Winamp for some reason but worked fine in WMP and MPC. (encoded with a weird codec or something). Also could you pleeeease rename your file properly so that it isn't a string of random numbers? Thanks (Or I will be forced to upload a renamed version) :D

Hey, that's pretty awesome Xeda! :D at 0:43-0:44 it really sounds like a bird chirping! You really can't tell the difference. The others are pretty awesome too.

@Street: The recording is a bit low, but Media player classic opens it no problem.

Also, this is my (slightly distorted by the mic) wakeup voice. Not exactly ideal if you ask me. :P

I was surprised my computer could read this file. I guess VLC has a somewhat good range of supported format. :P I mainly use iTunes just because it has my favorite GUI/interface (I hate everything else about it)

Mine doesn't change anymore. I kind of miss having it crack randomly, but at the same time I don't.
My youtube channel has my voice on it, and I add new videos every so often (When I get tired of them taking up space on my hard drive)

Well most of the time it's my childish voice that goes through but sometimes it decides I should sound like an adult. :P
