Hi,
I was just wondering how many people here enjoy flight sims and which ones. So I posted this.
I own:
MS FS 2002
YSFlight (with MANY realism packs)
FlightGear (too slow for my liking)
GE flight (online)
-
Google Earth gogogo :P
I've also done the in-browser thing, but whenever I used in a browser that wasn't IE it would crash (paradoxic, i know)/me points to "in-browser flight simulator" link in sig ;D

experiencing the same thing. also, I was expecting you to be first to post since I saw your sig.
and I now have GEarth up
-
I don't like how touchy google earths controls are...
:P
-
I'm in the in-browser thing right now...
It seems more stable in FF6 ;D
Hasn't crashed as of yet.
Scratch that, it just smached, freezing up the entire browser for about a full minute before a warning popped up saying unresponsive script :\
It keeps lagging tho..kind of distracting x.x
-
Google Earth FTW! I used it with a joystick one time and it was pretty sweet.
-
maybe the newer versions aren't so bad... I still have GE2. :S I Don't use it too often.
-
Yeah, I haven't used it in forever either. It's still kinda cool tho.
-
I do like the 3d building idea. and the scrennies of the new version look sweet.
-
Google Earth, but I don't use it much, it's so hard to control O.O
-
Ace Combat Games were really fun.
-
I don't own any, but I've played different versions of MS flight simulator, and Ace combat a bit as well.
-
How did I guess who was the creator of the topic ? :P
I don't own any. Never tried in fact. Seems fun !
-
I haven't had many problems with the Google Earth one, tho it's easier to use the one that isn't the jet. (the jet's a lot more touchy with the controls)
I actually had some fun with that one, putting the pin thingies around, labeling nearby runways (including but not limited to my high school's field and street :P)
-
I actually got a road removed from google maps/earth :D I don't need GPS devices telling people to use my driveway as a public road. (It goes through to the street behind, but it is private property and often has lots of boards with nails, potholes which would only get worse, etc.)
-
I love fs2002 for realism. I have somewhere around 150 planes for it. I can take off from my street with an add on I found.
I like YSFlight because the core is only 11mb, it starts up fast, and it has a combat flight simulator mode. with the realism packs, I can flight sorties to WWII britain and germany with a B17, or I can fight MiG's in Korea.
Google Earth is nice (I just got the newest version), but the cockpit is only a HUD and there is no external view. The controls are also very touchy by default, but i found a setting to change that.
The online flight sim is nice, but it is SO slow! I wish they had a version to download, so it wouldn't have to constantly download data.
My friend plays Ace Combat (He has the whole series) and loves it, but i've never played it.

I think they still make Ace combat...
-
That reminds me, I played [wikipedia]Blazing Angels[/wikipedia] for a bit..it's kind of fun with the PS3's tilting ("SixAxis"?) remote :P
Shooting stuff down never gets old with some things :D
-
wow! that looks cool. which reminds me, I forgot IL2!
-
Hm, maybe an option in the poll, just video games in general? There's quite a few of them :P
-
Yeah, however, IL2 was also a PC game. (i have it)
-
I've only really used Google Earth, and mostly at school because we are only allowed to use stuff installed on the computer :P. I should probably get Flight Gear now that I have a computer with enough disk space for it though :P Oh, and I like flying planes in Just Cause 2, landing them is a challenge, but the physics are too unrealistic for it to count as a sim :P

I remember those days many years ago when I'd spend hours shooting down nazis :D
I also recently bought the expansion pack which lets you fly the experimental fighter jets. And there's also another version of IL2 called Pacific Fighters (I think that was the name) which allowed you to takeoff and land on carriers. But IL2 is still my all time favorite combat sim because of its intense realism. I can recall specific missions where I'd be dodging flak, my plane riddled with bullets, my pilot injured, smoke coming from my plane, aileron controls damaged, all while shooting down nazi jets over Stalingrad :)
/me experiences deep nostalgia
-
By the way, don't play Ace Combat GBA. Very disappointing.
I'm just glad I didn't end up paying for it. It was crap.
-
That would actually be a good concept for a calc game :P
[offtopic]willrandship, base 3 is usually called ternary[/offtopic]
-
Both are accepted, and I prefer trinary since it tends to be understood more quickly to the non-techie. (Since Tri is more quickly interpreted to 3 than Ter-, being more common)
Ironic wikipedia quote on the matter: It prefers ternary, yet Analogous to a bit, a ternary digit is a trit (trinary digit)
The accepted bit for trinary is named after my preference.
Bwuahahahahaha
Besides, I use Quaternary much more often anyhow. But then there's still the recognition problem.

Yeah, IL2 was a pretty good game. It was very realistic on takeoff (I never knew it could be so hard to get a plane going straight down the runway!)

Flight Gear is only good if you have a gig or 2 of ram. otherwise, don't bother. YSFlight is a better choice if you have 512mb of RAM (like me). Just make sure you get realism packs for it!
-
I've uploaded a screenie of YSFlight.
Aircraft: Buck's UH-60 Pavehawk
Terrain: Naval Battle US (I forget who made that one.)
Version: Direct 3D
(yup. thats omni in the bg)
