I was looking for this physics program called 'Phun' and I went to the website and I was directed to this:

What is assist2.searchguide.frontier.com? When I go to assist2.searchguide.frontier.com, I get the really old Internet Explorer Page cannot be displayed error - and I don't have IE either! And alot of the websites I go to, I get some random Frontier search thing.
And not only on our Wi-Fi at home, but un my uncle's too! We get ours from a completely different ISP, so has anyone else seen this?

You can't get Phun anymore. It was a beta of a thing now called Algodoo.

It wasn't just Phun, but many other websites that I know exist redirect to a Frontier Communications search page!

You prolly have a virus. That explains the redirect and the old IE page.

/me thinks of viruses and antiviruses for Ubuntu.
Edit - It can't be a virus! The EXACT same thing happens on my aunt's iPad!

yeah that happens when you type in something thats not there or not available and your browser cant find it.. it's typical so dont worry

It's one of those "place-holder" pages. Like when you type google.com or yahoo.com wrong, it could redirect to an advertisement page, where you could encounter pop-ups and virus. (Although viruses are unlikely.)
If this happened to all your devices, then it's most likely not a DNS poisoning. Rest assured.

This is known as ISP hijacking, where incorrect URLs will cause a search page from the ISP to show. You can (usually) opt out of it, but it requires setting a specific resolving server, something that I think I know how to do but don't feel like doing it. :P

Frontier is likely your phone company. If so, It's a DNS redirect from a nonexistent page. Not to worry, but yes, they can be annoying :P

Just use OpenDNS instead of your ISP's default. OpenDNS actually has a functional search page rather than paid, sponsored results. :P

My ISP have the same thing.
How it works? Very simple. Your router assigns you a domain (in my case gateway.2wire.net). Your internet configuration usually have a "domain" field somewhere. Say you want to resolve example.lol. Seeing it doesn't resolve, your computer will try to resolve example.lol.gateway.2wire.net instead, which redirects on your router's embedded DNS server to your ISP's error page. To opt out, you just have to empty the "domain" field, or on Linux, the domain line in /etc/resolv.conf. Nothing to do with changing your DNS server, I believe. If that trick doesn't work, you may want to change them to 8.8.8.8 (which is Google's).

Well both me and my uncle don't get any phone service through frontier. It seens to br replacing the google and safari "can't load" pages.
