Title: Will Korea have an another war?
Post by: Yeong on November 30, 2010, 07:58:26 pm
I'm hearing a news that N.Korea shot 100+ missiles at S.Korea at my hometown(Exact town that I was born) :(
Will Korea have yet another war? If they do, what'll gonna happen?

Good job. Would you be called to fight in an eventual battle? (Are you aged to it?)

You shouldn't say that. I'm in half-serious mode!

My US history teacher was talking about this...relating it to the incident when the S. Korean ship was sunk...
Hopefully nothing happens :(

I have a bad feeling about this.  Korea is back at war, even if it isn't formally acknowledged, and the big problem is China.  They sit in a very bad position right now.  The United States owes China a lot of money, so they are less likely to back us, and by extension, South Korea.  However, if they were to side with North Korea, they have way too much power, and South Korea will collapse into North Korean rule.  However, if China supplies North Korea with more weapons, there will be even more problems, especially if the weapons are nuclear.  China has a history of expansion, and has not always been the nicest.  North Korea is led by an insane dictator, not to put too fine of a point on it.  If they combine, there is a strong chance that the world can fall under their combined feet.  North Korea might be the excuse China needs to take control, and believe me, China has the resources to take over the world, and North Korea has the insanity to consider it.  South Korea would only be the beginning.  Nuclear war will be the only option for the US, though we will consider it very deeply.  We can't stand up against China without nuclear weapons, and even then, it's not likely.  But the moment we shoot ours, they shoot theirs.  Mutually assured destruction.  That is the worst case scenario, if China sides with North Korea.  Making matters worse, China has a history of supporting North Korea, and is already performing displays of power with them, same as we are with the South Koreans.  I feel that China has already decided, but I hope for the betterment of the world that they hold onto their nuclear weapons.
The best option would be for China to side with South Korea.  I don't necessarily think that North Korea needs a revolution, but I wouldn't be entirely opposed to the collapse of the dictatorship.  I don't think South Korea wants to take over, either.  But the Korean War never really ended.  There was a cease fire, but they never officially ended the war, and have been harboring resentment ever since.  Both sides are thirsty for revenge.
The next best option would be for China to remain isolated from the conflict.  They have already interfered, but they can always pull out when the shit hits the fan.  South Korea would win with our support, unless of course North Korea's claims of nuclear capabilities are founded in fact, in which case they will fire them at South Korea, and force some very hard decisions for world leaders everywhere.  However, I don't believe any of this paragraph is true.  China has already shown their support for North Korea, and I doubt that North Korea has nuclear potential on their own.
The best option by far is for the shows of power on either side to work, and for one of the countries to blink.  If this happens, we can hope that the other country will stand down.  The tension of a month ago is not ideal, but it is better than the full out war we could be facing today.  No matter what happens, I have a sickening feeling that this will leave a scar across the entire world's history, not just Korea's.

tl;dr: If you can, please get out of Korea.  I doubt it will be safe there for long.

However, even Asheville won't be safe once the war actually happens because if korea fight the war, China might shoot nuke at US. As I said earlier, we will see the real Fallout 3...(@Scout This is BAD thing!)

Well, if KermMartian ever gets me that cable he owes me, I'll be working on a WiFi driver ;) so eventually, Googleing with your calculator could be possible.
Also, I think that my post pretty much sums up the nuclear issue.  I'm worried, but I have faith that, so long as China doesn't give North Korea the codes, they couldn't possibly get pissed enough to shoot them at us.

Honestly, right now, I think the United States should just abandon South Korea and protect ourselves.  No offense to the South Koreans at all, but the United States is really provoking the entire world with this.  If a war breaks out between just North and South Korea, I think the result would be just "officially" ending their dispute.  It seems to me right now that China wants to remain neutral, but, if the United States gets involved, they will immediately support N. Korea to the fullest degree.  Honestly, I can't blame China for doing so.  During the original Korean War, China stayed out of the dispute until they were threatened by MacArthur's plans to attack.  The same thing is happening now.  The United States (note, not South Korea) is threatening to take over the North.  By creating a border with China, this is a obvious threat to them.  OF COURSE THEY WILL FIGHT BACK!  They have every right to do so if they are threatened.  If this dispute does turn into the Third World War, I can only quote Albert Einstein:  "I don't know what they will use to fight the third World War, but I can tell you what they will use in the fourth - rocks!"  I sincerely hope that Washington will come to its senses and get out while they still can. :(

I hope that China won't get involved and won't help N.Korea. If China gets involved and help North Korea, then USA will end up helping South Korea since they're powerful, but then the rest of the world will get angry at USA for getting involved once again in another conflict they have no business in, then I'M not too sure what might happen. Maybe they could help South Korea if there's a case of genocide, to protect citizens, or if N.Korea thinks about using their nukes (if any) on S.Korea, but not totally get involved like they did in Iraq.

I hope both Koreas do the fight on their own without getting too many other countries to be involved so it won't end up in another world war. However I hope it won't end up into an endless war between both countries. My concern is if N.Korea goes even more insane and decides to exterminate S.Koreans or take over their country completely.
