Woah guys, it's been 4 years.
« on: September 15, 2014, 06:11:16 am »
So I was having a conversation with Streetwalrus on whatsapp and suddenly he was like hey I registered around this time of year. So I thought I'd check my own account. Turns out I registered on Sep 15th, 2010. That makes it 4 years with you guys already! My first few days were a little messy, with admins thinking I was a fake and banning me and stuff, but I think that by this time, I have tricked you into thinking that you know that I'm not a duplicate. 4 years of randomness on IRC, learning programming (and English), THE GAME and pissing off people with necropost sprees; it's been a fun time, and I want to thank you for that. I also really appreciate that there's always someone ready to listen to your problems and cheer you up. Without you, I don't know where I'd been now, but I'm sure I wouldn't be having as much fun as I'm currently having!

Enough talking. Let the party begin!

seriously though 4 years is A WHILE. o_o

Also I think ever since I joined, Omnimaga has become more and more of a social thing. When I joined, the focus was much more on calculator programming, as Quigibo was still actively pushing Axe updates, calc84maniac was still making progress on all his 454353 projects instead of only ti-boy, and there was more member activity in general. Now that stuff has become a bit less active, the members that stayed here invested more time in getting to know each other. The Private Matters forum opened for a reason. We each have our own problems, but we all are really supportive of each other. Also a sad but IMO true point is that the untimely death of Tribal (RIP) shook us up a bunch. Ever since I've noticed that we've become a more and more tight group.
Not sure if this is supposed to be a celebration topic or a reflection topic. Maybe both. Just felt like sharing.

Oh wow I've been here almost 2 years now O.O How time does fly... I joined at the tail end of an era, iirc. Builderboy and Squidgetx were at the end of their runs, and Portal Prelude got released that December, so there was a spike, but after that we got really quiet here. Epic7 left (kind-of :P), Leafy left, and Yeong left. There was kind of a slump period in which there were maybe 10-15 active members. We've been rather active recently, though, with JWinslow, ClrDraw, and some other relatively new members being extremely active. I'm less active than I was, but I'm still here, at least (I'm mainly active on IRC). And yes, we've been a tighter group recently as well (albiet with a few particular sub-groups). That's my reflection.
I am Bach.

For me that'll be 3 years next month. Well I can't say that it feels like I registered yesterday, as I really worked hard on (what I see as) great projects over the months, with my own prides and shames (Spaceship Games was really lame ... and Worms is being awesome). The main feeling is that Omnimaga is some part of a family, acting like a family.

Do you know a family where nobody ever had an argument or got mad at any other member of the same family ? Of course it doesn't exist. Do you know a family where all members support each other ? That's not always the case, but it is (greatly) for Omnimaga, and that's what's good about it.

So thanks to those that made Omnimaga possible, to those that didn't have any significant role in making Omnimaga possible (like me duh) and to those that make the others lose every evening ;D keep it rolling !

3+ years
Wow. Haha. I have been around for a bit, but I'm really not as active as I wish to be. I'm more of a cemetech guy. But I've been poking around recently.

It's amazing how time flies by sometimes. Sometimes I check the Axe and Ndless stuff and it's like if both had just come out yesterday, but in fact it has been 4 years already. When I get less active sometimes I hardly know anybody who recently joined but then I usually get along with a bunch of the new members so I'm good. I miss some of the old users though but I guess it's life, plus TI programmers tend to come in huge waves so sometimes there are a small amount of users who don't code much then suddenly a large influx of calc coders. What I like though is that nowadays Omni is more diverse in terms of topics. When Axe originally came out, Omni was almost entirely just calc stuff and nothing else so it was very hard to start a non-calc discussion, especially with hardware modding.

keep it rickrolling !
Fixed.

I've been getting to know everyone pretty well. You guys are my second life (ish) :P
I've been here about... 2-3 months.

I've been coding for 1 year though.

It depends. I hardly see computer help nowadays, more TI-Nspire help (although less help is received now that Critor/Lionel no longer post here), combined with minimal programming help for other things. Most projects still seems calc-related and calc programming help occurs mostly on IRC since the most experienced people like Runer112 prefer IRC to forums.

Regarding forums, ideally Omni would be better with a consistent 100 posts a day average (excluding the weird topics like 9001 signs) since that gives just enough discussion to read once they come back from school, work or bed. If Omni was to get another activity spike that lasts longer than usual (like in 2010-2011, for example), I think the admins should implement a Recent Posts feature in which you can uncheck specific boards/sub-forums to make it easier to keep up.
