Title: Anyone go to music concerts?
Post by: Juju on August 08, 2011, 12:57:50 am
I went to 9 of them this summer with my mom (4 of them with DJ_O), all in the Québec City/Lévis region.

Went to Metallica, then 3 shows for the 375th/150th/10th anniversary of my seigneurie/original town/new merged town, then 5 at some festival about hot air balloons.

Oh god 5 days in a row finishing tonight, it's kinda tiring. (Well, at least I met DJ_O for 3 of these days.)

Before I didn't go to them much but I always wanted to go to a Stratovarius, Dragonforce or Metallica show before. Sadly I never had the chance to. But yeah years ago I went to an humorist show where Juju goes to school now, last year I went to some rally to bring back a NHL team in Quebec city and now 4 shows with Juju. That one hard rock show was quite intense even if I normally don't listen to that kind of music.

I never go to concerts, as I have "very strange" music tastes, according to what people say. In fact, I almost never listen to more than one music from a band, mostly because they never make more than one good music according to me. So I won't pay to listen to music I don't like, just hearing one good music. I already said that somewhere but the band I listen most is SOAD and I listen to 4 or 5 of their songs.

Yeah the bands I saw weren,t necessarily my favorite music styles either, just a bit close to the stuff I listen to sometimes. However the shows were parts of a bigger event so while we paid to get there, we didn't have to pay for individual shows. In fact there were multiple shows going on at once and Saturday we heard the other show in the background when the one where we were stopped playing music XD

Dream Theatre... Awesome! ^^ I'd love to go see them someday. I may go to a journey concert this month, but I haven't been to any concerts yet this year.

I haven't gone to any this summer, the only concerts I go to are because my sister plays in a symphony, and I have to (not really) support her.

Also, awesome that you saw the Scorpions Loulou I bet they kicked ass! :D

I don't go to any concerts this summer.

Speeking of concerts, I found this today:

Welcome to the future,
Where the music business is dominated by robotic sounding vocals, and almost holographic band members.

I would love to go see Hatsune Miku in concert. There was one in Los Angeles not long ago I think.

Yeah I heard they did something like that with Celine Dion or someone else. They had an holographic Elvis Presley signing with her. I hope we still see actual artists on some stages, though.

I would hate going to a Metallica concert, only to learn that the people on the stages were just holograms of the band instead of the real thing.

Bump:

So far this summer me and Juju went to quite a lot of concerts. A lot of them, however, only required a $55 pass that allowed us to go to every show we could. Here are the ones I went to:

-July 5th: Mononc' Serge
Although it didn't top some other shows below, this one was kinda cool and funny. The music style was mostly heavy metal, but the special thing with this artist is that his songs are meant to be funny and they say plenty of stupid stuff, along with poking fun at government and everyday news.

-July 6th: LMFAO
Of course you most likely know LMFAO. The atmosphere was quite fun with the giant crowd and all, although since I'M not a huge fan of today's electro and dubstep, I didn't get into that show as much as a few others, except maybe during Party Rock, the only LMFAO song I actually like. I would probably not pay for this show alone in the future unless it was like under $30 in a huge venue.

-July 8th: Iron Maiden (starting with Alice Cooper)
My third favorite of all the shows I went to. I wasn't too familiar with Alice Cooper but I loved both parts of the show, especially Iron Maiden's, although probably because the latter went on with only songs from 1992 or before, so I knew most of them. I went nuts at time during that show despite sitting on the side due to the floor standing area was sold out. I think I pretty much liked every bit of it, even Alice's slower songs.

-July 9th: Bon Jovi
Unlike the LMFAO show, I didn't get caught in the traffic as much this time lol (see earlier post in the thread titled "Public Transit Rants"). It was a great show, although they kinda lost me around the middle, as I didn't know any of the newer and slower song they played then. However the first third and the last were really good.

-July 13th: Overkill (starting with Aeternam followed by Helix)
Until The Wall show (see below), this one was by far my favorite. Although I don't really listen much to death metal and never went to such extreme show before (although I was already used to smaller mosh pits), I quickly got into it. Things slowed down when Helix went on stage with their '80s style heavy metal, but they still made the night amazing. By then I was kinda brought back in the '80s lol. But THE BEST PART of all IMHO was Overkill at the end with their Thrash metal. I started listening to Overkill over a year ago and since then I often listen to some of their songs, especially the '80s ones. If it wasn't for the pink floyd show the week after I think this one would have been my favorite of all during the Summer Festival. It is a good thing that I didn't drink too much, though, because at two occasions (during Hello from the Gutter and Ironbound) I contemplated going in the middle of the mosh pit (I actually accidentally got inside once, although I decided to stay in for half a minute or so lol)

However, if anybody with seizure problems would have went to the show, I think that was it for him O.O

The flashes were particularly extreme during Ironbound choruses

-July 15th: Mastodon (starting with A Perfect Murder and Grimshunk)
Probably my least favorite of all. Didn't like A Perfect Murder since I'm not a big fan of stuff like System of a Down and it was too commercial IMHO. Grimshunk wasn't too bad (although last year at Festivent it seemed better). Mastondon was great, but 30 minutes after it started, they were forced to end every show at the festival due to an heavy thunderstorm for safety issues.

-July 21th: Roger Waters (ex-Pink Floyd member) The Wall
Although I'm more of a fast music fan, such as Overkill, Iron Maiden or the stuff I listen to that never comes to North America, the Roger Waters show was by my favorite of all. Everything went together, the special effects were amazing, some trippy and the 728 feet long wall (along with the lights going all the way up in the sky) was just incredible. I would come to see that show again, but sadly, this was apparently the final show of The Wall tour.

There was also a message in that show against war and that stuff. The wall collapsing at the end was reminiscent from the fall of the Berlin Wall, especially that I heard they actually played The Wall there in 1990.

The lights that illuminated the sky thursday, friday and during a part of the show Saturday could be seen within a 200 miles radius in the sky apparently. It was like if they setup an alien landing place or something :P

I know Juju also went to see Lionel Richie, Aerosmith and The Offspring (I was at work), but has anyone else gone to music concerts lately?

wow, nice ö especially Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi and Roger Waters. those were probably nice to see :) i've seen iron maiden and mastodon too.

from 27th june till 1st july i went to Werchter, a festival in Belgium. i've seen lots of nice band there (if you can see those as concerts), some examples:
Within Temptation, Rise against, The Cure, Blink-182, Elbow, Mastodon, Jack White (this was unbelievably nice),  Pearl Jam, Miles Kane, Wolfmother, Mumford and sons, Editors, Chase and status, Simple minds, Dropkick murphys, NGHFB (from the guy from oasis), and to close the festival the Red Hot Chilli Peppers...

that extended weekend was really the most awesome concert experience i've ever..uh..experienced :) it was just too much of the good stuff, all those names (most of them at least) are incredibly good names in the music industry (you might not know all of them, but they are)..

i'm gonna look for some vids and post them here too, but i guess you can imagine what an influence it has on yourself when you go to concerts like that. it just blows you away, which is such a good feeling :)

on a total vote of 11 thats not really a representable number, as there are thousands of members here :)

but you should really do so, it is amazing how you can be surrounded by the music, and get picked up by it as you listen.. it's just amazin, and sometimes it can't be described with words, just like the concert of jack white..

I agree, going to concerts is a pretty awesome experience. Especially Roger Waters, his setup is just incredibly well made.

The only thing I must warn about is if you go to a death/thrash/heavy metal/punk concert, afterward your hearing will be lower for the next day of so, especially if you stand right in front (or below) a speaker. :P

Also at such concert, make sure to follow Ashbad's advice on the other page if you don't want to be pushed around. :P

i have these (http://www.variphone.com/en/hearing-protection/industry/variphone), so my ear protection is secured :) (that's about 25dB less)
and i only had a 'moshpit' once, at dropkick murphys, but it wasn't much of a moshpit, that's why i joined :) it had more of a happy group of people jumping around xp

Moshpits can be fun. When Aeternam started I kinda forgot there were moshpits so I kinda got surprised by it as it started, then I realized "oh wait! That'll be fun when Overkill will start playing". I didn't go inside it too much, though, because that can be kinda exhausting during such crazy show to start jumping and running around into people during almost an entire concert. Also lol in that place I think it was like 35-40C at one point near the end and my hairs were kinda wet when I got out. Nonetheless it was a fun concert. I can't imagine how it would be if they played on Abraham plains instead. Even if they're not very known here, I bet they would still draw at least 10000 people who are curious  (I think where we went only about 600 people can fit)é

One thing I wish I could have went to, however, is the Metallica concert last year which had about 110000 people. However to be in front of the stage you had to wait about 35 hours outside, sleeping in a tent, so instead I would probably have went behind.

Three weeks ago I went to a festival, and especially one night was extremely exhausting. At first Die Toten Hosen played (a punk rock band, they're very well known here) and I was right in front of the stage, it was very hot and you could hardly get fresh air. It was awesome, but afterwards I was wet all over with sweat. And after a break of only half an hour Deadmau5 played. The music made me unable to think anymore.

Apart from that festival I don't often go to concerts, lately only to one where Eluveitie played. But going to a concert is really something you shouldn't miss :)

Okay, I just counted them. I get to 11 (out of 16 planned). 9 being part of the 11-day long Québec City Summer Festival, 5 being part of Festivent (some hot air balloon festival in Lévis, not started yet) and the 2 others were Iron Maiden and Roger Waters (formerly of Pink Floyd).

Needless to say I like music.

Yeah I'M probably gonna go to a few of the Festivent ones. They start before the end of my vacations and there's free bus transit for those, so it shouldn't be as exhausting as the others.

I just came back from an Amon Amarth concert and it was totally crazy in there. :D The place was sold out and loud and a massive mosh pit broke out when Amon Amarth played their first song. I didn't go in it even once, though, because I was too far and I was already exhausted from the Sabaton concert.

Now I am back from Eluveitie despite some harsh cold, but I was taking it more easy so I won't get burned out before the show ends.

The biggest highlight of the concert: They brought a Quebec flag on the stage then they played the French version of Call of the Mountains *.*

The night before, I went to WWE Live (wrestling) and it was funny and entertaining. People say it's staged/fake but that's the goal: To give a show and entertain, not to compete, so when you know it it's pretty fun.
