Anybody here listen to jazz besides me? Or am I just weird... <_<
-
i like jazz and actually may be learning to play it next year.
I'm a saxophone player
-
Sadly, not me. In fact it's probably on-par with Justin Bieber in music I can stand listening to (although Jazz is obviously much more creative, less commercial and more quality. Just nowhere close to sound I like, such as thrash/power/speed/heavy metal and the faster electronic dance/club music genres.
-
I dont have much jazz music to listen to though. Would you recommend any artists/albums?
-
Same as DJ_O, I don't really listen to jazz.
-
Only if it's coolio.
*rimshot*
More seriously, I was in concert band for ~7 years, and always liked how good the jazz band sounded :)
Never really listened to it outside of the concerts when I was stuck in the building for x hours, tho :P
Edit: now that I'm thinking about it I was first trumpet in "You've got a friend in me" in some Toy Story 2 suite..was pretty fun
-
I actually listen to all music, if i get to listen to music (not a music geek (except omnimaga radio of course :P))
-
I do like jazz, but it depends on the type. If its more of the free form jazz or like bebop or somewhat experimental and upbeat, I dig it. Big band stuff or easy listening, I don't care for. Im not super familar with jazz though, so recomendations are always welcome. ^^

:D
I love jazz!!!
Meh, I play trumpet.
Currently listening to a load of Coltrane :P
-
yesyesyesyesYES!!!!
like art, though, i'm more a fan of the heavily rhythm-based stuff.
if you happen to be a sucker for both anime and jazz, then gogogo and check out Sakamichi no Apollon, the latest thing Shinichiro Watanabe has directed. even if you don't like anime, it's worth it just to skip through and watch the beautifully animated jazz sessions.
if you're looking for something more recent that takes swing rhythms and instruments and mixes them with electronics (which is, basically, a perfect thing for me =D), then you should check out Caravan Palace. unlike all the other "electro-swing" people, like pavrov stellar (or whatever his name is) who don't have a real feel for swing, these guys have it down!

Same :D
But unfortunately, I never heard any jazz music so I don't listen to it yet. But if someday I hear a good jazz music, it will get in my tracklist for sure ;)
Or am I just weird... <_<
Why weird ? No one is weird since there is no norm.
-
Excellent point
-
Eh, jazz is okay, but much prefer to listen to some EDM or rock =P
-
Jazz is good :) but I can't really listen to dubstep/electronic. But DJ, your Tales of the Knight of the Moon album is pretty kicking.
-
Actually TotKotM, despite being electronic, is more oriented on the rock side than other electronic music, though. Also yeah I can't really stand dubstep either.
-
Electronic rock then :P You used a playstation to make those?
-
Amazing ;D
Even more amazing, the pianist doesn't seem to know what to do!
-
Electronic rock then :P You used a playstation to make those?
Yeah. It would fall under power metal sub-genres, but since it was done using a sequencer, not in real-time, instead of using real guitars, drums and keyboard instruments, it's electronic.
I wonder if there's any jazz metal? Maybe I would find that kind of stuff kinda coolio jazz.
-
Swubsteb! Swing-dubsteb.
And V1mes, thats probably the coolest jazz vid I've seen :D
-
@DJ: I have just the band for you!
Jazz rock fusion band, The Mahavishnu Orchestra:

This was their first (and one of their best) albums. Enjoy!
-
I love any kind of musics except for raps (I can't stand any of those) and screaming rocks (like Slipknot)
-
Dr Dre was ok, so was Atmosphere. Not my favorite, but I was able to listen to them.
-
I love this one. (I can play this on piano too :D)
(I know that this is something video-game related but still :P)
-
Love that song! But I play it on the Euphonium ;) Is that you playing?
-
No. :P
What is Euphonium?
-
It's like a mini tuba :)
