Title: General Rock Music Talk
Post by: njaddison on October 24, 2012, 08:50:15 pm
Hey guys.

Does anybody still listen to good Rock Music? If you do, or want to join in, then this topic is for you.

I listen to all kinds of Rock (Classic, Modern, Metal, Heavy Metal, etc.)

My favorite bands are Pillar, Journey, and Linkin Park. I also like rock music from composers like Robert C. Prince III and Lee Jackson, who made music from video games. Lee Jackson's Grabbag (Theme frome Duke Nukem 3D) is awesome!!!!!!!

I remember when I first started listening to Linkin Park. My dad brought the Hybrid Theory CD home one day. He played it in the car when we were on vacation one time.

After that, I asked him for the CD. Ever since then, it's been inside my stereo's CD Player. I listen to it frequently.

Do any of you guys have experiences like this with rock?

Also, I've just gotten a recent interest in AC/DC. If you like metal, then AC/DC will hit you with a wave of awesomeness!

So, you guys get the point.

I'm not into traditional/standard rock, but I love power metal, folk metal (that thing that sounds like power metal, but with growling vocals), some heavy metal, thrash metal, along with a small amount of melodic death metal songs.

My favorite metal bands are:
Power/folk metal: Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius (except the 2005 album LOL), Saitama Saisyu Heiki, Albion, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Nightwish, Freedom Call, Rhapsody of Fire (the older stuff), Wintersun, Ensiferum, some Amon Amarth, Eluveitie and a few others
Thrash/heavy/hair metal: Overkill, Metallica (except the stuff from Load to St-Anger), Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Armageddon (even though it's Christian).
Melodic Death/black metal: Aeternam, Graveworm, Dissection and some random covers of pop songs. I'm still kinda new to the genre.

For other stuff, I don't mind some punk from time to time, but I was never much into it. Sometimes I listen to old Offspring and Goldfinger stuff. I don't really like stuff like System of a Down and A Perfect Murder. I'm not much into AC/DC but I sometimes like to listen to a bunch of it and I would like to go to a concert at one point, especially if it's during the Summer Festival or as opening artist. Also some bands mentionned above fit in multiple genres, since for example in the '80s Blind Guardian did thrash metal and Gamma Ray was more into heavy metal.

Also I don't really mind if a group is religious, satanic or the opposite, as long as it sounds good.

Anyway, I like most of the stuff he said, plus some Japanese music such as Touhou, Hatsune Miku and some Aya Hirano.

I really like Journey and Hall and Oates (Are Hall and Oates rock?).  I also like a few songs from Sting, Queen, Linkin Park, and a lot from Green Day but I listen to anything really although I think lots of new songs are really repetitive and don't mean anything if you listen to the lyrics.  :)

My favourite bands are Queensryche and Rush, in no particular order, followed by Iron Maiden, Metallica (except their awful mistake, St. Anger), Journey, Led Zeppelin... I could go on forever. If it ain't got guitars and GOOD vocals, it ain't my thing.

I'm a vocalist myself, and try to sound as good as some of my heroes like Geoff, Bruce and Steve.

Heya and welcome here biomech :D. I agree with you on St-Anger lol. Actually the album wouldn't sound as bad if they used normal drums, but even then I wouldn't buy it. My favorite Metallica albums in order are Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Kill 'em All, Metallica (Black album), And Justice for All and Death Magnetic.

As a power metal fan, I also like the live album they made that is played along with a symphonic orchestra. But it might be due to how this was the 1st version of Masters of Puppets that I heard.

In my case I don't really mind when vocals aren't as great if the music is really good and I don't mind if there are synths, but I also love guitars (although I don't mind if replacements are used if someone is making 8, 16 or 32 bit chiptunes and music). Also even if I don't mind vocals that aren't very great it must not sound weird either (such as Iron Maiden's Virtual XI album, where Bruce Dickinson wasn't vocalist, or that one power metal cover of the Titanic song on Youtube)
